Evgenia Medvedeva

Wham! Bam! Alakazam! Bring that SP on! :agree: She doesn't do a lot of upbeat stuff. I know she also hasn't done tango, but she has done both fiery and dramatic, so I am sure she'll do fine with it. I think the SP will bring out more aspects of her personality that we haven't seen as often.

I'm more excited for the short program. Orange Colored Sky has a lot of personality, and though it's a huge departure from the style of programs Zhenya did before, I think if she had a part in the decision-making process she must have liked it. I trust that Zhenya will make it fun to watch and enjoy herself.

As far as technical things, I hope to see just overall improvement. At one of the Japanese ice shows, Zhenya jumped a 2Lz and fell, right? As I understand the reason she flutzes is probably not that she is/was entirely incapable of jumping a proper lutz with outside edge or at least flat edge, but more that the pressure not to fall and over time muscle memory lead her to choose consistency over correct technique. After all, a flutzy lutz is not really that uncommon, right? I really want to see her trying to work on that just to prove all the haters that say she has awful jump technique wrong. And also, I hope she can work on spins, too. I think some of her positions are a little awkward, and on the doughnut spin I think she kind of wobbles or shifts kind of off-center? Anyways, I just want to see Zhenya having a good season, showing off how she isn't through with figure skating yet :)

Actually she fell the next day on a 3Lz. Her 2Lz apparently was good, although I don't think we got videos of it ;)
And I wouldn't be worried about her spins, her spins were beautiful during japanese shows :)

I'm more excited for the FS weirdly, because i rarely like tango programs! listening to the mumuki first part of the music, i imagine her doing something sultry to that part. Which is something i have never imagined Zhenya doing (when she did the Paroles flirty EX it wasn't really flirty but cute cause she was so young  ). And i loved all the choreos Wilson has done for Yuna with that theme so i have confidence he's gonna give her a great choreo for that. I'm excited for the SP too but i already have a feeling she's gonna pull that off very well and i don't have a hard time picturing her doing that, that's why i'm just a biiiiiit less excited.

I am hyped for both programs because they are very different yet demanding. It will be interesting to see her interpretation for such distinct rhythms.
I feel orange colored sky is going to fit her like a glove, and libertango has so much potencial...
Just can't wait to see her on the ice again!

I'm beside myself with excitement for her FS! I may be the minority here, but I absolutely adore Mumuki (Libertango is also fine, but we hear if often enough in other programs) and I can't wait to see the choreography. I hope it's as elegant as the music makes me imagine. On the other hand, the jazz SP is easy for me to imagine because we've already seen cheerful Zhenya (in exhibitions, anyway haha) but the tango FS is something completely different for her, and I have no doubt that she will be able to pull it off very well.

My thoughts exactly :agree:

For me I’m anticipating her FS more because I love the mumuki and it’s probably my favourite out of her three selections as well as being a quirkier choice. I think the music will force her to rethink how she moves which could be really interesting especially as she’s reworking her ss skills and I just hope she can bring her intensity from programs like kushka to it. As well it will be in this we will be able to see most easily how she has upgraded her lay out , how much she’s backloading in regards to combos, any loop combos and how Orser has chosen to handle her lutz so we’ll get more answers.

However I feel that at least for the beginning of the season her short will be better and it could be very fresh and different which would be awesome but it might take her until the gpf to grow into her tango and really make it her own.

Hm, in terms of how she's working on technique, it does look like her jumps look less muscled, and her spins are as solid as always (maybe a little faster). I'm being cautiously optimistic about the lutz, though. It's great that she's clearly working on it at TCC, but the lutz edge will take time to fix. I am excited to see how her team will handle it for the programs next season, though!

Well, I don't know what mystery they will talk about.
About the programs, for my part, I am more excited about Tango, because one of Zhenya's strengths is her footwork: complex, deep edges, turns and changes of edge effortless, tango will allow her to show off this quality. Also, this type of music, in the dance, is characterized by being very serious, the face stops being the main transmitter of the intensity of the music, and everything depends on the body, Zhenya has been absurdly criticized for her facial expressions (a I love her ability to express), with Tango she can be serious and work in body control; to be more aware of her bodily movement and express the passion and meaning of the program through this.

I also waiting her SP obviously, the music sounds cheerful, Zhenya has always had quieter programs in terms of melody, but in her EX she has shown that she can be funny, coquette, moon warrior or a dark girl.;)

This site is actually really good! It has several posts about Zhenya's technique, and debunks some of the myths that haters like to spread.
I'd recommend having a look: http://the-real-xmonster.tumblr.com/tagged/evgenia-medvedeva

In any case, one thing to remember is that Brian's work usually takes at least one season to start showing. So this season we can expect to see small incremental changes (+ packaging and choreo), and then hopefully next season we will see true development in her tech :)

Yeah, I LOVED that spin in Windmills of Your Mind! :luv17:

Wow, thanks for posting that!

Unsurprisingly enough, I’m more excited about the Tango FS ☺️☺️
You don't say

I saw a lot of people complaining about her spins and how they travel across the ice.
However, this is most due to the speed she had before entering the spin or the change of position during the element, just physics, not her fault

I think her SP will be interesting! I wish they'd gone for the Nat King Cole version because his version has more interesting rhythms and is more jazzy, but this is David Wilson we're talking about. He's gonna go for the full cheese. That being said, the contrast between the SP and FS will be interesting!

Also wondering what her new ex. will be

Didn't she already make like 4 new EX numbers this off season? Christina Aguliera song etc.

Doesn't mean she can't have more EX. She enjoys trying different things anyway.
Personally I think she'd have different EX(s) for competitions outside of the ones she did in iceshows.
