Evgenia Medvedeva

Sooo, to open up another topic: What are your top three programmes of Zhenya? EX's count as well! I'm curious to see what other's think.
Personally, my number 1 is definitely her FP from 2015-2016, her first senior season. There's just something about it that I can't explain, I just love it. My second is Anna Karenina and my third either Experience or Windmills of your Mind.. I know that Experience is not the most well-liked programme of hers (probably because she does "pantomime" quite a lot) but it's her raw and real emotions and most of her movements that drew me in. And WOYM is just beautiful to watch.

1. W.E.
2. Chopin
3. Anna Karenina

I am hyped for both programs because they are very different yet demanding. It will be interesting to see her interpretation for such distinct rhythms.
I feel orange colored sky is going to fit her like a glove, and libertango has so much potencial...
Just can't wait to see her on the ice again!

Before Zhenya announced her music choices, I was reading in the Japanese ladies thread and they were talking about some of their new programs. There was a discussion of Mai's Libertango SP and her Doris Day SP, and someone said they could actually imagine Zhenya doing Mai's SP. They meant her new one, but for a second I thought they meant Libertango, and when I watched the video of that program, I could really imagine Zhenya doing it well.

And actually Mai's new SP is kind of the same genre as Orange Coloured Sky (although I like Orange Coloured Sky better).

Nice avatar, Greyswan
If you don't mind me asking, which country is the flag? Excuse my ignorance...
if you're on a PC, you can mouse over the flags, and it will tell you the country. Joining this forum has been like a little children's geography game for me: "Learn the Flags!" I can recognize several now that had previously been unfamiliar to me. :)

It's truly incredible when you think about it! I'm blown away by the diversity of this fanbase.
Same here. I thought I would be the lone American amidst a sea of Russians, but there are people from all over the world here, including several countries that don't have a strong Olympic figure skating tradition. She's just such a wonderful skater and likable girl!

Top three? You expect me to choose only THREE?

Well, that‘s hard because I have actually never outright disliked a program of hers... I enjoyed them all. But I guess:

1) River Flows in You
2) Nocturne/Experience (it‘s a tie)
3) W.E

I also absolutely love Windmills but these three (actually four) are the ones I felt the most during watching. River Flows in You is precious to me as well as Nocturne because their topics touch me in a very personal way. I don‘t cry all that often but when I watched those programs for the first time (and Nocturne at the OG) I did. Huh, this is getting very personal now but it‘s just the truth. Zhenya and her interpretation of these pieces of music managed and manage to deeply move me and I appreciate this more than any correct lutz edge ever. ;) Experience is there because it was a program dripping from emotions. The miming was excessive, so were her feelings. She choreographed it herself and to me it looked like she poured her heart out there on the ice. W.E was simply a program I enjoyed. It had unique choreo and a beautiful story. I probably should have added Anna Karenina, too because even though it‘s not my favourite program of her and I don‘t connect as much with the music as with some of her other choices, at the Olympics it grew on me because of the genuine emotions she displayed while skating it.

Yeah. This was a bit detailed, I think. But I can‘t help it. Zhenya, Yulia and Carolina - my three all-time favourite ladies’ skaters - just manage to do something with their skating I can‘t really explain without being overly (even more so😂 ) kitschy.
1) River Flows in You
2) Nocturne
3) Kukushka/W.E (tie)

I do not care much for the Anna Karenina program, either. I don't like the chaotic step sequence, but I like the music and costume alright. However, despite AK not being my favorite program, her Olympic presentation of it is my favorite overall performance for a couple of reasons. One is because of the interview she did on RT in English where she said the highlight of the Olympics was hearing the crowd encouraging her in Russian. In the interview, she said, "After my program," but I'm sure she meant "before," because you can hear them before the music starts, when the crowd has mostly quieted down after her name was announced and she is taking up her starting position. There are maybe a dozen voices calling to her in Russian, and you can catch a ghost of a smile cross her face before she commits to that opening pose. You can see her hear them and pinpoint that as the exact high point of her Olympic experience. :luv17: Also because I've never seen anyone pour themselves into a form of performance art the way she did that night, and then she broke into heaving sobs at the end. I mean, I just don't have words. :points:

Mrs. P., my mom dated a Croatian man after my father died (they were both elderly at the time, I mean, Bruno had fought under Tito, you know?), and they would have loved to visit that little section of Washington. :)

So hard to choose but I’ll go with :
1) W.E
2) Anna Karenina / Extremely loud
3) Kukushka / River flows in you
Every time I watch Zhenya skate, (even though I already watched the programs multiple times) I’m completely engrossed in the program and it’s more marked for the ones I chose. Hope I can add her new programs to my top 3 ! Go Zhenya !

It is so hard to choose only 3. I love them all and I've watched them all multiple times.

1. W.E.
2. Experience
3. River flows in you.

Honorable mention to her sp from the Boston world championships as I was in the audience. Also, her Chaplin program from 2010. She was so adorable.

I think i have lost a lot of very interesting discussions over the past couple days: ;)

1. I'm very excited by both of Evgenia's programs, I have listened to her music choices almost daily and as a jazz lover I can't wait for her SP. I like the prospect of a tango program and it seems she wanted to explore this kind of music for a very long time (Averbuk comments) so I can't wait to see her suprise me.:luv17:

2. As for my favorite programs of her, this is very difficult for me to choose because every time I see one of her performances I become so enchanted by it that I can't stop watching. I actually did a post on tumblr about my top 5 EX of Evgenia but if I had to choose between all of her programs...
* Anna Karerina (Olys and also the one she did at Ice Fantasia)
* W.E./River flows in you (this two are beautiful and very meaningful to me)
* Kukushka :love:

(I'm already torn with this decision haha)

1. W.E.
2. River Flows in You
3. Sailor Moon, because I couldn't get out of a three-way tie between competition programs. And her Sailor Moon makes me happy.

1. River Flows in You:
This is the program that I connect with the most.

2. Extremely Loud:
I noticed no one else put this program, which I understand. Worse yet, is it okay for me to admit that a lot of why I like it is the dress? I think the sound clips of sirens and the like were too much, and the fact that it was supposedly not actually about 9/11 made it worse -- it's having your cake and trying to eat it too, which I dislike quite a lot, but... I genuinely liked the music and choreography and everything besides that. It would probably be my favorite if not for that. I hope this doesn't come off as me being shallow or insensitive, but I just like all of Zhenya's skating for the most part and the drama of the music and the dress draws me to this program and raises it above others. And also, I don't remember clearly but this was one of the first programs of Zhenya's I watched, and I was just sucked in. I had never seen a figure skater so clearly be telling a story on the ice, or be so expressive and emotional. I watched this when I got home from school in the afternoon on many days, and it helped me grit my teeth to brave my homework and get through the last months of the school year.

3. Anna Karenina:
The music, costume, and Zhenya's skating sold me here.

Here's hoping I get new favorites this season and can stop being so attached to such a controversial program as Extremely Loud...

It’s okay to like that program and like that dress. I don’t care for the color combination of the desss, but the embroidery is beautiful, and it fit her nicely. I like the music and the storytelling in the program; I just don’t like the step sequence (again, with that chaotic, helter shelter stuff across the ice, but I get it, because she’s running around in a panic trying to find out if her loved one’s alright), and I’m not sure that something controversial like that needed to be done. Also, if you’re going to do it, then do it; don’t backtrack later and say it really wasn’t about the event which you literally sampled from for the music. /rant
But yeah, she skated it really well, and it’s emotional, and it’s okay to love it.

I don‘t even know why I‘m not as invested in her AK program as in the others. I don‘t think it‘s the step sequence for me. No idea.

Yeah, I noticed that, too. The audience was cheering for her so loudly and you could hear that there are Russians calling her name. I have to rewatch her program now because I want to notice your observation about her reaction to this, too! That sounds so wonderful. But something I have noticed was the reaction of the crowd when her scores came up. This is not to bash Alina (because I love her, too) but I think after such an emotional performance and how she poured herself into this program, they were expecting her to win. And I don‘t know whether I imagined this but I could her shouts of outrage when she was in second and broke into tears. I guess when you‘re so committed to a program you automatically make people root for you.

Guess what? I like Extremely Loud, too. It‘s not my favorite program of hers but it‘s very emotional and the message is thoughtful and true. “Spend time with your loved ones because you never know when the last day‘ll be.“ I didn‘t care for the step sequence at first because it‘s chaotic and messy. But when I rewatched it again and again I realised that this is just what it was supposed to be: messy. Chaotic. If you‘re in fear that somebody you love is dead, you‘re not going to be elegant and calm. And that‘s what she‘s portraying here. I still find the voice overs to be a bit tacky but after a while I got used to them. So, yeah, I like this program and I‘m not ashamed of it at all. Why would I? We like what we like and if it‘s controversial then so be it. It‘s my taste, not other people‘s. I don‘t think you need to be ashamed of coming across as shallow because you don‘t. What I liked most about the January Stars program was the dress. What I didn‘t like about the W.E program were the tights over the boots. So, yeah, we‘re all a bit shallow sometimes. It happens.

I loved Extremely Loud too, it seems I forgot to place it in my top 3... (adding it now) I can’t have three favorite programs I almost love them all
I completely agree with you, the music cuts were so beautiful along with the choreography in my opinion and the dress from that program is my favorite. Of course, I wished that voiceovers weren’t here.

The music is indeed one of my favourites! I have a playlist on Spotify I listen to before going to sleep to calm down and most pieces Evgenia used in her programs are in there. They‘re calming but at the same time not because I‘m going through thre program in my head while listening. Yeah. I might have watched them a bit too often.

SAME ! Is it strange I seem to know them perfectly by now ? You can even put the middle of the song and I can tell what Zhenya is doing in her program at this moment
