Alena Kostornaia

I think alot of people try to distinguish her from Alina Z because their names sounds the same. And it confuses some people.

May be, these names being written in English looks very similar. But Alena's name is the same as of Aljona Savchenko, it sounds like verb "learn" with A in the beginnig and A in the end.

The Eteri Triumvirate is just amazing.

It's rather a triummulierate in their case. :)

Alёnka is derivative name that is OK for close friends and relatives but not for others.

I see nothing wrong for a true and faithful fan in addressing her as Alenka. :) But this form was introduced to distinguish her from Alina and the other Alyonas. At some point I was spelling it Alёna, and it seems to have been adopted by some, but this form is primarily for the exclusive owners of the ё-keyboards. :)

Czech keyboard contains "¨" so ë (which is spelled as "jo" in czech) is no problem for me :)

Zagi & warmth ??? no way :noshake:
Zagitik - may be

I mean, attaching the "-ik" suffix for cuteness is a Russian language thing. Whereas ending a name with "i/y/ie" serves pretty much the same function in English. I'm a native Russian speaker and yet I've called Alina "Zagi" in English before. I feel like it sounds cute. Same goes for Med/Medo (well, the latter is a Japanese abbreviation anyway). Different languages, different sensibilities.

I know that I promised not to offtopic, sorry, and I promise that I write about this for the last time. You and others like you can not understand that you should address a person (even in absentia) not as you like, and as she wants. Here the differences are at a fundamental level. Alina is Russian, so from this ethical position it does not matter that "Whereas ending a name with "i/y/ie" serves pretty much the same function in English." But you (or dante), apparently have other ethical axioms, so this conversation always will be without understanding. So, I propose to conclude this discussion on this. This is really offtopic here.

What do you think, people. Does Alena jumping 3A in a FP? In a SP, as I recall, it is forbidden by the rules (for juniors)

I don't think so since she hasn't tried it on practices. But even if she did, as we saw with Shcherbakova, most likely she will not add it.

I think there is no need to try out the 3A in this competition. The race among Russian ladies is too tight so I think getting used to the program first, higher BV later on.

But what if some Japanese ladies puts a 3A-trump card on a table today? I always hear that Japanese ladies are training a triple axel. So I'm kind of a little worried about this.

The highest Japanese lady is 15 points below Alena, and the other is 21 points below. Do not worry :)

Yeah, I don't think even 4A would help them.. ;)

Heck, superstitious part of me begins to go crazy with this conversation. Come on! If you want that youre favorite skaters win, you must always doubt before competition. Now I will be terribly nervous, thanks a lot

I'm very surprise to see the dislike towards her SP dress. I think it is glorious and suits the program well. Not to mention, she look stunning in it.

Compare to Shcherbakova's SP, it was kind of need some more wow factor though. If she add her 3A during RN, I'm pretty sure she will be on top of the podium. Looking forward to her FS.

They do, but this is very rare case. Alёna and Alёnushka are much more common.

Alёnka is derivative name that is OK for close friends and relatives but not for others.

She uses it to refer to herself on social media, though, so I think it's fair for fans to use.

Japanese lady got GOE 0.66 for her 2A, so, I do not think she will try 3A, she can lose a lot.

I‘m not sure whether it was her I saw because she was running and wearing her Team Russia jacket on top but if it was Alena, her dress looked blue. But I can‘t guarantee because I only saw her for the split of a second.
