Anastasiia Gubanova

It seems Nastia will skate at the Open championship of Moscow which will start on next monday. This competition will likely determine if she will skate JGP events this season or not.

Could it be similar story as it was last year with Alëna Kostornaia?

It is possible. If she does great at Moscow competition and Russian Fed feels that they have to make room for her then it might be very similar story than last season which would mean that at least 9 ladies would skate at least one JGP event and that would mean that only 5 ladies would get two JGP events and a chance to make it to the JGP Final.

But we are not there yet, even if she would do great next week there would still be the possibility that she would replace Vika at the 5th event which would mean that there would be only 8 ladies who would get 1 JGP event and best 6 of them would get the 2nd JGP event. So, we will just have to wait and see and how it goes.

One thing that should make this season a bit easier for the Fed compared to last season is that Nastia has been among the substitutes for all the events which gives Fed more room to do changes right after the the Moscow competition is over while last season I recall that Kostornaia was named only for the last two JGP events.

From the very first moves of her SP you can feel that she is most experienced between all competitors and is only one who can be called mature but it wasn't enough today :confused2:

She is just so lovely. that is a unique dress. Was Nastya xcore fair or low?

You can see her TES protocol at the end of the video and it does look fair enough to me. The two things holding her score down are the ur call on the +3T and the fact that her step sequence was only credited as level 2.
She had 29.4 PCS but unfortunately you can't see the exact breakdown of scoring there. It doesn't look like she was being lowballed though, she was 2.2 points higher in PCS than Kostyuk (who has excellent skating skills) for example.

One thing to remember is that Russia has a bonus system in domestic competitions which explicitly rewards spins that are level 4 and that get at least +1 (maybe +2? I can't quite remember) GOE across the board. Valieva (who came first) got a bonus on each of her three spins i.e. three extra points added to her score. Usacheva similarly got a bonus on two of her spins so she also got two extra points added to her score. None of Gubanova's spins qualified for a bonus.

We have to remember Nastya is progressing well for a 15 year old. Its just that she has so much talent to compete with in juniors and seniors it has to be overwhelming.

Nastya looks taller and longer to me. She should be able to improve her spins alot. She will have to. If Anastasia doesnt blossom by 17 they may try to make her a pairs skater because she is so lovely.

I am pleased she found boots to skate in that arent hurting her. I hope.

So juniors and seniors are in seperated competitions?

The event is called Open Moscow Championships and there are no senior events, only junior events and a novice category for ice dancers.

What makes this event significant is that the skaters who do really great here have a chance to get JGP events.

Thank you.

I think, Nastya did good today. Not in her best form, but everything looks promising to me. I wish her good luck this season. She'll need it.

Of the girls who are ahead of her only Kostyuk is eligible for juniors, right? So if Nastya manages to do better than her in the FS she might very well get her spot on the JGP series. Or am I wrong here?

Just winning here, or being the best JGP eligible skater, doesn't do it. She needs to do better than the other ladies have done so far either at the JGP events or at the test skate events. For example, a bit above 190 points here will not do it, I am afraid, because that is about what more than a dozen Russian junior ladies can score.

But so far all skaters on the JGP were literally perfect. Tarusina only had a problem with one of her spins. The rest - Kanysheva, Kostornaya, Shcherbakova all did incredibly well. I guess it will be the same for Trusova and Sinitsyna. At the test skates Nastya Tarakanova had some problems but it looks like she‘s going to her JGP event nonetheless. So, if she needs to do better than any of them it will be pretty tough. I thought she‘d get the benefit of the doubt since she‘s had problems with her boots and everything and her coach talked about her maybe getting a later event. Well... if she doesn‘t get one, we might be seeing her next year on the JGP circuit when Trusova, Kostornaya and Shcherbakova have moved up. Hoping for a good FS for her nonetheless!
