Jason Brown

Rohene is on his way to Canada to see Jason and Madison/Evan per his instagram:

That's good to hear! I was just wondering if they had worked together at all recently.

Ok, this group might appreciate while we await :bed: program news ...

With all the travelogue photos from Toronto, remember when Jason was posting photos of cows on the road to Monument? How times have changed

I loved those cows! Such expressive faces. :)

The other thing is, he has changed a lot physically in the last 4-5 years. As a young teenager his features were, for lack of a better word, pretty - again, non traditional. After Sochi, that started to change, and he’d look one way on one day and completely different the next. Now his looks have settled and there’s not a trace of “pretty” left - he’s definitely a young man, with strong masculine features, and the short haircut emphasizes that. And of course, makes it easier for ponytail haters to actually look at him. :)

He, like Josh, started to muscle up around the 2014-2015 time, where they were no longer growing up but starting to put on their adult muscle weight, but it did seem to take his features a lot longer to "settle" than Josh's did. It's still unnerving to look at them both and remember the adorable 15 year olds who I saw the future of skating in.

I still think they're both pretty, though.

Random observation watching Yuzu's FS practice video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=py3FcuBSGrY&feature=youtu.be&t=79

If you watch Jason when he shows up in the background, he does salchow jump (3S warm-ups and then the 4S later on) attempt in the same corner of the TCC rink. That signals to me that there is a 4S in that part of the rink for what I'm guessing is his free skate.

If my theory is correct, that is kind of interesting they are switching gears on having him do 4S instead of 4T in the program. I really doubt they're going to attempt both (and TSL hinted at "a quad" in the FS).

Actually it's not a bad idea -- I always thought he had a nice 3S. He almost never misses on the -3S in his 1L-3S combos.

Kori always said she liked his 4S but he felt more comfortable with the 4T. I also think he’s got so much baggage with the 4T that it makes sense for him to start fresh with the 4S. He did land 4S at Glacier I think but << and two footed

Oh yeah, I had forgotten Kori's comment about the 4S. And yes, he did attempt it at Glacier.

And hm, that makes sense with some new jumping technique to start with a "newer" jump rather then try to rework the old one you've been doing..

I think the 4S makes a lot of sense because the 3S is less critical than the 3T.

doubling the 3T in the SP can be disaster and mean not making the final group. Doubling a 3S in the FS on a Euler combo is not so costly and can be more easily absorbed. I also think the precipitation/impression of not having a traditional triple triple is more costly than doubling a planned 3S.

With the 4T... he had to learn how to do it and keep an awesome and stable and flexible 3T as well. With the 4S... well he has to do one 3S and if that became a problem he could probably learn a +2L+2L or +2T+2L pretty quick and just go with that. Point is... with the 4S it impacts other factors less and lets him focus more exclusively on the 4S.

Actually there is a typo and it does list his FS music!

FS Music: “Old Friends/Bookends/Hazy Shade of Winter” by Simon and Garfunkel

Huh, I would never have guessed that.

Ooops, I glanced too quickly and was fooled :hopelessness: by the 2017-18 mislabeling of what actually are 2018-19 Season Notes.

Thanks, Mrs. P.

Simon and Garfunkel? I'm intrigued.

That's not what I expected, but I love Simon & Garfunkle, and it's a pretty unusual combination. I've been hopeing for somebody to use Hazy Shade of Winter for a long time.

(Although how can Jason be skating to S&G, and NOT use the 59th Street Bridge Song? It seems tailored to his skills!)

Simon & Garfunkel?

Wow. I don’t know what to think.

I need to reflect on this. And possibly see the program. :scratch2:

Same way no one uses Sting's Roxanne or Queen's Show Must Go On... skaters seems to not like to use the "good" version. At least I think Jason picked the original and not the cover.

Well if Jason is using the original, good for him.

At least it’s not that cover of Sound of Silence that was a drug on the market the past few years:palmf:

Ooooh, thank you!

Well, tbh, this seems very Jason to me, I think it'll suit him. Of course the music cut will matter but he is totally capable of making this work!

The funny thing is right before I saw that, I literally was thinking, oh I bet Jason's music is going to show up on an ISU bio somewhere soon. I didn't take into account that it would be the USFS one.

Yatagarasu, I agree that the music suits him -- in fact I think it will have kind of a similar feel to The Piano FS. But what strikes me is that neither program has any pep/broadway/performance. Both seem extremely introspective, which is kind of a departure from the "one is peppy, the other is introspective" pattern he used to take under Kori.

FS Music: “Old Friends/Bookends/Hazy Shade of Winter” by Simon and Garfunkel

Well, it's not classical and it's not a war horse and I already own the songs so I approve.

One thing for this cohort of Jason fans, is that unlike skaters who use tunes that came out in the last 30 years (or Jason’s SP:biggrin:) I don’t have to look up the songs:laugh:
