Evgenia Medvedeva

This account posted two short videos from Evgenia's practice at ACI https://twitter.com/yolo4A
It's good to see her jump 3-3-3 again and her 2A really looks nice.
edit: here is also a part of her FS https://twitter.com/plumyplumy/status/1042550935749320705
Looks like she is doing 3F-3T-2T, 3S-3T and 3Lo-2T and all backloaded? Also thank god, she has only one 3Lz

Ah, from looking at the FS videos I feel reassured about it. I'm steadily warming up to it. The step sequence is great. And nice to hear about only one 3lz. She doesn't need that right now.

And after looking at the time zones and schedule, it appears I will actually be taking a trigonometry test as Zhenya skates. :palmf: Nice.

Edit: Whoops. Nope. I'll be home by then, and will accordingly (hopefully) watch it live. I'm excited, but unfortunately I can't drop everything and forget about school :hopelessness:

When I watched I saw too many cross-overs especially for the first part
Maybe I used to see her with too many transitions I don't know why but this make me worry
and what is wrong with her Flip? she always has perfect flips
I think she is improving her toe pick and trying to limit the pre rotation. Improving technique will probably take some of her consistency on certain jumps. I wouldn't be worried bcs it was just a practice and she jumped the next 3F like always.

Didn’t you feel her jam packed programs had too much going on though? That’s what I felt sometimes. This is okay. She still does a lot of one foot skating and still has her transitions in and out of jumps on some.

:o: I must confess that I like her transitions... it never seems too much for me but I feel that they force her to skate slower than other top skaters sometimes
I am worry if too much crossovers and two foot skating will have bad effect on her pcs

Evgenia looked good in practices. She made one small mistake on the first flip then nailed a flip-3toe-2toe. I love the programs and look forward to seeing her compete!

Well, I wouldn't worry too much. If needed, more can still be added since it's early right now. But to me judges always seem to give PCS pretty arbitrarily and at least partially based on reputation, so it shouldn't be so bad even if her PCS is a little lower than before.

I like them too but they started being to much for me, especially in AK. She still does less crossovers than a lot of the ladies imo. If she skates well, it honestly shouldn't affect her PCS.

I mean, let's not pretend that PCS is actually scored according to skating skills .. or really anything other than reputation and consistency..

The boy in my avatar is proof of that. But we're here to discuss Zhenya, not what ISU judges do :/

Well, let's see. Thinking about Zhenya's programs, I feel like they have a lot more personality than her old ones. There were definitely a lot of distinctive things she did (skid spiral into layback spin, her fantastic I-spin) and it was unique in the sheer level of drama.

But since many of her programs were very similar to each other in overall themes/mood, I think especially in Orange Colored Sky it stands out that Zhenya does a lot of choreographed movements that are not necessarily even transitions and the way she carries herself during it makes it a lot more... lively, and in general more dynamic. I think it's good without being filled with stuff.

Thank you! I really like this program for her and can’t wait to see how it evolves during the season. She already has a great feel for the music and it looks to me like she’s getting into the ice more and skating with more power.

Regarding crossovers, I noticed that she does fewer in the beginning - mostly no more than 2 at once. She seems to do more towards the end. I’m wondering if it’s because she’s still building stamina and that there will be fewer as the seasons go on. I think she has a lot of nice transitions already - perhaps just not the same ones people are used to seeing.

Anyway, I hope to get through customs tomorrow in time to see her short program - she is #13 of 22!

I agree... I like transitions but not when they are so jammed together and have little to no relevance to the music and the mood of the program. I am liking the Mumuki part of the FS more as I see more of the program. As she builds stamina I think you see the transitions increase but there won't be as many as before and I'll completely ok with that!

Yes. I think AK was good thought but I could have done without all the jammed up things together. Nervosa also mentioned how her programs were similar but imo they were similar in that she was doing all the jumps, choreo sequence, some transitions the same for 3 seasons! Mumuki just feels different and good different. I enjoy her sp too especially her little dancing moments (I think this program will be an audience favorite!).

Her double axel looks great! Can't wait to see her dresses. She looks more comfortable with the music. It is just going to get better and better.

Re: AK program

I finally watched the movie this weekend and her program is even more amazing to me now and makes a lot of sense. Such a sad story. I don't think anyone can skate to that music after she has! Also if you watch her exhibition version of the program after the Olympics where her hair is down, it is even better and wilder which is more how AK was.

I would be so curious to see how a David Wilson would choreograph that music - for fun. But eh I know that wont happen.

Also, I would love to see her do a sort of character piece again down the road....
