I think this is the first that I love both programs right at the gate. Usually I’m okay to his programs and end up loving it later in the season. I know he need to polish it more but once he gets everything together they going to be masterpieces. 🤩

Wouldn't he forget how to do biellmann spins if he never puts them in programs for an entire season? It's his signature spin and I don't want him to lose it [emoji24]

The Biellmann is a dangerous spin and many skaters have permanently injured themselves doing it. I hope Yuzu does continue to exclude it from his programs.

After see again, over and over, both programs, i keep thinking that the short it's better, at least for now. It's a less powerful program than Chopin Ballade, but i see a flow, a magic that just enchants me, over and over. And that ending... such elegance

Origin... i still don't know. The music it's perfect for Yuzu and the costume outstanding, but right now... maybe it's the inevitable comparison with Plushy's step sequence and final spin, but the choreo struggle to capture me. I wasn't expecting that, Nijinsky's Tribute is clearly one of my favorite programs ever.

And please, someone tell Orser to take away that pecking rooster at the beginning :noshake:

He's the master of rehashing, remixing and revamping his old costumes.. He sticks to a certain style of clothing, but always adds a new edge and flavor to it. I think he has good fashion sense, and a bit or an artistic side. I can imagine him designing costumes in the future, because he has really good taste in what looks good.

He knows himself. It shows in his costumes and in his skating. It’s why his “softer”/“girlier” costumes, like for R&J2 and H&L, aren’t jarring. Confidence goes a very long way. (I used to be a men’s stylist, ironically.) I have no complaints with either costume, and I love the overall aesthetic for Origin, but it’ll take some getting used to, given that we had years with Chopin and Seimei.

Speaking of Chopin (the programme, not the costume)... I think it’s going to be hard to let go, since we had it for so long, and then the OWG performance was one of Yuzu’s all-time best skates, made even more emotional given the injury. But I very much like Otonal and think it’s a worthy successor to Ballade; I’m especially glad it’s not something like LGC, which I never liked (sorry) and would make for a jarring transition. The spread eagle before the 4S, with arms aloft and that stare... sublime. I love the melancholy threads of the programme — so different from the assertive nature of Ballade, and both exquisitely graceful. I haven’t loved every one of Buttle’s programmes, but this is fantastic, and I found his comments fascinating. Comparing this year’s ACI to any except Ballade’s first season feels pointless, since he had more years to refine Ballade.

Both performances at ACI were rough drafts, but I’m not overly concerned? And there are different kinds of rough drafts — these felt like the kind where the underlying text is solid, but someone needs to review it for errors and help polish the sentences, if that makes sense. (Which is definitely an easier lift than a draft in which the substance of the argument is missing but the grammar is flawless.) Spins... a bit sloppy in his positions, and I wonder if there isn’t some muscle memory to be fought off with the new regulations, but nothing worth panicking over. Actually, I’d be more panicked if he peaked now. [emoji23] Between the Olympics, recovering from injury, shows, and new rules for the season, poor Yuzu has had quite a year already, and pressure tends to lead to mistakes like the one that cost him his CSSp in the short.

I don’t know, I don’t see much to be worried about, and I’m not going to panic over his scores just yet. The American judge was blind, crazy, or drunk or all three at once, and also way outside of consensus, so I’m going to hope that this is our Judges Be Drunk moment of the season and nothing so ludicrous happens again. (Yeah, setting myself up for disappointment....) Yuzu is back in competition mode and seems to be enjoying himself, and it’s so nice to see him healthy. Can’t wait to see what a month of sanding off rough edges and mistakes brings.

That being said, given how much Yuzu wants to win, am I the only one not buying his layouts at ACI? I can believe he won’t move a jump to the backhalf of the short, but his free leaves plenty of points on the table. Also, no toe jumps outside of the 4T and 3T in combo? No 3F or 3Lz? With one less jumping pass, I expected the 3Lz to go, since he can do the flip so well that GOEs would offset the slightly lower BV, but 3Lo? I can understand leaving them aside due to the need to let his ankle heal, but considering Yuzu’s commitment to a “well-balanced” programme, it seems odd that he’d leave them out forever. 4T-3A over a half-loop sequence? I’m expecting deviations from ACI as the season goes on. Just... please, no Yolo4As. My heart rate is screwed up enough as it is.

Origin... i still don't know.
And please, someone tell Orser to take away that pecking rooster at the beginning :noshake:

I don't think it depends on Orser. I somehow think he got that from Evgheni but I just don't want to go and watch his programs searching for the one Yuzu quoted with this move.

...

And please, someone tell Orser to take away that pecking rooster at the beginning :noshake:

LOL, I wish I didn't read your comment. I immediately knew what you were talking about, but loved those moves! Now I am seeing it as pecking rooster. Can't stop laughing about it. I just wish I didn't read it.

No 3F or 3Lz?
There's a solid reason why he had to let go of both jumps at least for now. They represent a threat to his injured foot. He was advised to let his foot heal properly before he starts a real deal training- that's why he is appearing to look so thin, less muscles in his body and his stamina is really weak at the moment. He spoke about his layout at media day, there was a clear sign there will be neither of those jumps you've mentioned at his planned content. As per 4T+3A- that was his personal treat, he wanted to have fun doing it at this B event cause who cares about points at this stage of the season when there are two types of jumps you can't perform due to the injury? What I most regret is that he couldn't do it, for him to have fun. That was his stamina screaming- Man, you're not ready yet! He's going to work more. He is going to be more focused and motivated. I only hope he does it gradually, and listens to his body and let that poor foot heal.

😂 I still love it even if look like he is pecking. At least now we have a name for that move. The double peck 😝

If it’s due to injury, then leave the 3F and 3Lz. I missed the full media day translations, so thanks for that. I honestly would be happier if he never goes back to the 4Lz, so leaving out the flip and Lutz to make sure his ankle can fully heal is 100% The Right Choice.

Stamina is always going to be an issue with poor Yuzu, but he does seem noticeably healthier than he did at the Olympics. There’s clearly been the addition of lots of healthy muscle since then, though he’s still not where he was when he was in peak condition. But I trust he’ll get there. Conditioning is a journey. What makes me happy is how he seems to be radiating health and happiness in a way we haven’t seen for at least a year, and I trust Yuzu and everybody at TCC to stay healthy, barring any freak accidents (please no more accidents). And even with his stamina being less than he’d like at ACI, it’s still better than what it was at Worlds 2012.

Well... In 2012 he was a kid, now he's a young man. Also- he had managed to win the second OGM that was his dream come true. He was relaxed, he let go of that mood of a warrior but also- he was a bit clueless about what to chase next. 4A is not a definite target though it appears to be a tangible asset any athlete would love to have on a plate. It is more of a journey for now. He needs a structure, he needs to put down a plan- this is where I want to be next, this is what I want for every competition and how I am going to achieve that. I bet he didn't do that before ACI. And that is one of the reasons he couldn't show more in LP: he wasn't focused enough. And we saw that already last season at ACI- he had to deal with some pain so they had to let go of 4Lz that was planned as an opening jump for his LP. He also had to let go of 4Lo but he didn't have enough of training of that lower base layout and his mind wasn't focused enough which led him doing edits here and there right during the actual competition performance. That what cost him last season ACI gold. Javi got it instead. I think lack of actual focus caused him loose this season ACI LP to Jun Hwan Cha.
I think he had created new SP with that kind of layout when he was absolutely happy, relaxed and not really planning anything as a definite future. Maybe there's no need to plan the other cycle yet. But he needs to plan the season at least so that he knows where he is at and that would give him much needed focus. It would be easier for him. Because that is how his mind got used to perform during the most part of his life dedicated to sport. It's not only his body that needs to heal, he needs time to recover after the huge success mentally as well. That's just my humble opinion.
Also- I think he wouldn't get back to 4Lz. Not worth it. 4A does.

Yeah, I definitely understand why some skaters would choose simpler designs since really intricate costumes like Yuzuru's or Shoma's are quite a financial investment. Not every skater can afford such an expense so I would never hold it against them for choosing more economical options.

{sotto voce} though you can have economical and still interesting.... {/sotto voce}

Seriously though, that is a point, I do think Yuzu's final Seimei must have cost a pretty penny or seven... worth it of course. Though Javi for the most part managed less intricate but still beautiful showstoppers :luv17:

I can't help wondering what the the youngsters copying or adapting it, H&L and Chopin are paying, yes, they're knockoffs but still...

It’s understandable if finance is the issue for understated costumes or no costume at all. I’m talking more about the skaters who are from big federation and have the means to have nice costume but choose casual clothes to skate in.

I don't mind cool and casual if it is cool, but most of the casual ones don't manage that (I would LOVE to see a sleek modern version of 30s sharpness, Cagney/Bogart style, for instance). Pretty much of the guys are young and even with Yuzu, their preferred 'real' style is, err, teenage/20something youngster no style, so those who treat on-ice as a COSTUME, part of their performance kit, and are comfortable dressing up manage better. Even when Yuzu, Mura and Shoma (well mostly and Shoma, the Great Spirits mess went too far even for blingloving me) are completely OTT they are so completely, unselfconsciously comfortable being OTT that it still works.

I'm glad someone brought up the head banging! Or the double peck? I must have missed it during his run through practice because I remember seeing it mentioned here but have no idea what it was. Then the program started and...OH! Here it is! Unfortunately I don't think he'll let this one go, just like the "phoning a friend" move during LGC.

I like the double peck! No need to take it out. 😂
