Evgenia Medvedeva

It could be that she is paying the most part from her own money(sponsors, olympic prize money). But there is no need to speculate about funding cause we simply don´t know.

I know it’s been discussed that Evgenia’s layout for the SP and FS will probably change and continue to evolve as the season progresses. There are many variables, of course, particularly on Evgenia’s part considering the circumstances. But boy is there a wide gap in terms of base value of her programs v her competitions (particularly her closest competitors). I can’t wait to see her in her top form (I know this might happen for a bit since the plan is more long term than anything).

A wide gap in terms of BV? The gap is at the moment 0,2(SP) and 2,25(FS) to Zagitova. So in terms of BV the gap is smaller than last season. But you are right, the layout may change as the season progresses.

Maybe I was looking at the wrong figures then. Thanks for clarifying.

Thank you for the info.

The gap is at the moment: BV - 1.18(SP) and 4.93 (FS) to Zagitova.
Actual gap - 6.75(SP) and 15.02 (FS) to Zagitova

So is orser’s strategy to consistently increase to peak later in the season? To not force the skaters to skate their max the whole season? Cause if zhenya’s programs are not the ‘final product’ and she gets sorta competitive (low for her) scores now with mistakes in her programs, she would technically score her normal range by the end of the season assuming no mistakes? Correct me if I’m wrong :)

Exhibit A: Hanyu, Yuzuru.

I think Brian is smart enough to tailor his methods to the skater in front of him; there is no "one size fits all". ;)

I think the main thing to remember here is that at this very moment Zhenya and Alina are at COMPLETELY different stages:

-Alina is clearly pretty much at the top of her game, sure her stamina will improve as the season progresses, but I would say that - as most of the Eteri girls - she is already peaking and will probably keep pretty much the same form during the season if everything goes well; Zhenya is coming back from an injury that kept her off the ice for months + she has changed coach and training methods and is therefore in a period of adjustment, and as we have all seen at ACI she is nowhere near her peak form
-Alina's programs seem to bee 100% ready and this will probably be their final form, or very close to it - again, as is tradition of the Eteri school; Evgenia's programs have not reached their finished form yet and will keep being added to as the season progresses - as is, instead, tradition of the Brian school
-Alina's GOEs and PCS are already very close to their maximum - she got a lot of 4s and a good number of 5s yesterday and her PCS were in the high 9s already; Zhenya's GOEs and PCS have room to grow a lot if she does well during the season and keeps adding to her programs and form.

What does this mean? It means that right now Alina is clearly the one to beat, and that Zhenya may or may not get there this season depending on how much she manages to grow in her new environment and on how the judges decide to reward her efforts. Right now, looking at both the JGP and the comparison between Alina and Mai\Loena\Marin in PCS yesterday, I think the judges are partial to Eteri-style skating [something that, of course, has favored Evgenia in the past as well - both Alina and Zhenya deserved to win what they have won so far, but should the gap between them and the others be so big?] - all that Zhenya can do is focus on herself and on her training and try to deliver her best performances, and hopefully she will get those 'long, long years' of skating that she wishes for.

The good news for Zhenya is that she still has a lot of room for improvement. What she showed at ACI is far from her "final form" both in terms of performance and tech. She might even increase her BV with a second Lutz depending on her progress.

It's definitely a difficult journey but but it's not impossible. Let's not lose hope ;)

I will never lose hope. Also, the season just started. The posts are acting like it's March not September.

Russian Nationals will start on December, 19. So she has less than 3 monthes before it. If she won't show any improvment she can easily lose her spot to another girl (Panenkova, Sotskova, Tuktamysheva, also Gulyakova is great rn). She could still get Universiade spot. But without being in main team Russia she'll probably be in reserve team. It has less support and funding. So she could return back to Russia...
I don't want to scare you or make you to panic. But this could happen. And you shoud be mentally prepared. I was very sad when Tuk didn't go to World right after a year when she won it. But it's a life

Also can we take into consideration the difference in panel of judges? ACI always have pretty strict technical specialists and judges while Nebelhorn or Lombardia not really (Want a PB? Come to Italy or Germany!). Evgenia was called on everything she could be called on except for UR 3T while tech panel in Nebelhorn was pretty lenient. The best comparison would be if both Evgenia and Alina skated at the same international competition.

Zhenya has about a month to improve her programs and skills. I think Grand Prix in Canada will a good indicator of the tempo of progress.

This is a very good point.

she won't lose to gulyakova or panenkova or samodurova etc at nationals lmao :D if she's overall fine and semi-clean there is no reason to send gulyakova or panenkova instead of medvedeva, it's hilarious.

I'm not worried. After the Olympics I was scared she would retire. I am just happy to see her skate. She will always be my queen. :)

Well, honestly I never imagined Braidie would score higher than Evgenia, ever. But considering the circumstances... it is what it is....

Does anyone have the ability to decode the skate Canada schedule? For the life of me, I could not understand the legends in the schedule. Thanks for the help! I can’t wait to see Evgenia!!!

bradie is usa's №1 rn. what is panekova's position in rusteam?
nationals are about making bets. even clean kostornaya (who is really special) with 0+7 layout was behind sotskova with mistakes last year.

I appreciate your point. But my point is that this year, the only thing certain is that, the season is very unpredictable for Evgenia.
