Alena Kostornaia

What’s happening with Alena? She has some nice qualities to her skating and should be confident. But instead she is taking it way too hard on herself, being in tears because of a pop on a 2A. She needs a supportive coaching team around her that lets her know that it’s okay to make mistakes. That’s how everyone learns after all. I think she is receiving a lot of stress in her training environment and will benefit from a coaching change.

Lol, I love how the YouTube sheep are all like, "b-b-b-but but...she popped a double Axel! She should be last place! Total scandoruru!!!" like, um no...You have the privilege of watching the rise of probably the greatest on ice performer in the last decade...sit down, gtf over it, and shut up. So you're going to complain when the artistic components of this sport aren't rewarded properly, but you also going to b***h and moan when they are rewarded properly, like which is it then? Sorry your preferred nation isn't stomping the field but you look petty and dumb. OMG she popped a double Axel. End. Of. The. Freaking. World. :rolleye: Hope she does well in the free. I still hate her FP, but that's her choreographer's fault. She could skate the Chicken Dance and I'd still watch it cause she's that artist.
These complaints to mostly came from fans of the 3rd placed skater, which I'm not surprised. Their fans are very biased to Alena and see her as a threat. Don't mind them.

She did have a coaching change right before last season, to Eteri. And you're right, she did benefit from it! And they were very supportive towards her when she fell at junior nationals. She may feel the pressure from training with Trusova and Shcherbakova, but that can't be helped when you train in a team with so much talent.

Yes. She gets grouped with Anna and Sasha a lot but in reality she is nothing like them. She's not a sweet girl. She is very mature, very meticulous, very ambitious and very self-aware. She was once asked what was one word she used to describe herself and her answer was difficult. She seems to be a very dramatic young lady.

Guys, I didn't go.. :sad4: That stupid bus had an "at least 90 minutes" delay, so I would arrive maybe like 30 minutes before the end of ladies FS.... and I wouldn't be able to see victory ceremony anyway... Well, I had my doubts after thursday's weird results anyway, so I took it like hand of fate, at least I'll be able to watch more skaters like this... and Alenka getting the gold medal... hopefully... ;)

Alenka will be fine, she fell in SP at the last russian jr nationals and then had a clean FS and finished 2nd.. and I daresay that was a more difficult competition with more pressure on her, no matter how much overscored certain skaters may have been yesterday.. hopefully she will be in a better condition tomorrow..

I'm not worried about her chances for JGPF, I'm sure she'll pull through today and make it - she's still leading after the SP after all. What worries me is her reaction after one mistake: it makes me think that she's feeling way too much pressure to deliver in such a competitive environment at the moment.

I think that it was also connected to her current state of health, frustration that she's not feeling well and she made a mistake... it probably all just piled up at the end of the SP...

Nyet to a coaching change for Alena! She hasnt been with Eteri long.

As others have said Alena is the most consistent of all of Eteris skaters. Some people are overreacting to one mistake she made and her being frustrated. Remember she won bronze at age 14 at Russian senior Nationals last year and some people even thought she should have won gold over Alina. She still has a very high arc.

SHE DID IT! Second gold for Alena and a ticket to Vancouver! :cheer:

She didn't look as disappointed in the K&C. But still, she looks a bit sick and her leg is indeed taped. I wonder why and hope it's nothing too serious. I just want her to be fine physically and mentally, happy and healthy!!

At least she managed a smile in the K&C. I hope whatever sickness or problems Alyona is going through right now gets solved.

Congrats to Alena! I'm glad she was more satisfied with her performance today despite the fall, even showing a nice smile in the K&C. Sergei though seemed cold towards her. The girl did well and she really should have gotten a pat on the back. Hopefully, she can get the psychological support she needs. Encouragement is good for self-esteem.

Alena looked really sick, I've noticed that she has deep dark circles around eyes..
Happy that she won, even though she wasn't perfect and I hope she will do better at GP final

Sergei was just being himself, not cold. He's always like that. If you are really a fan you should know that

It’s a shame she had her first fall in international competition. But her program was still filled with grace, elegance, and poise. She will rise again. I know it. Congratulations on another win and a ticket to the JGPF. Let’s win JGPF now Alena :)
