Evgenia Medvedeva

I mentioned it elsewhere, but I'm going to Skate Canada now. I'm looking forward to seeing Zhenya! I haven't seen her live in a few years.

I think a few of you are going, hope to meet you!

I am going and it’s my first live skating competition to watch. I cannot wait to see Evgenia!!!

To Mrs. P and NoviceFan: Hoping you'll have lots of fun and maybe get to meet Zhenya! It will be an incredibly interesting event so I'm very happy for you (and a bit jealous, can't deny that. ) that you get to experience it! :)

If I calculated it correctly, the events will be pretty late for me... about 2am for the SP or something. But it'll be on a Friday and Saturday so maybe I'll wake up to watch Evgenia.

Just wanted to re-watch Zhenya‘s Experience exhibition but it seems like it‘s deleted from Youtube. :( Does anyone know where else to find it or is it completely gone?

I can't find it either and I just watched it a week ago. It is my favorite. )::eek:

I found it on instagram but it‘s not all in one go but four different parts which destroys the mood and flow a bit. Maybe someone with knowledge on video editing cut somehow... put the pieces back together? Unfortunately, I‘m as good with a computer as with figure skating. Absolutely not talented.

Here‘s the link, the other parts are in different posts on this account:

Thank you! :)

It's disjointed but I can rewatch part 3 when I have had a bad day and I can pretend I am erasing it.

Russian Nationals will start on December, 19. So she has less than 3 monthes before it. If she won't show any improvment she can easily lose her spot to another girl (Panenkova, Sotskova, Tuktamysheva, also Gulyakova is great rn). She could still get Universiade spot. But without being in main team Russia she'll probably be in reserve team. It has less support and funding. So she could return back to Russia...
I don't want to scare you or make you to panic. But this could happen. And you shoud be mentally prepared. I was very sad when Tuk didn't go to World right after a year when she won it. But it's a life
No improvement at all with three additional months of training? I would have serious questions to ask Brian then.

I agree, but I'm not sure we should be indulging those with the doom and gloom, melancholic view to keep taking the floor here in Zhenya's fest.

Zero incremental progress over 3 months would be a reason to assess, I think anyone could agree.

I would think Zhenya and Brian would be having a sincere adult conversation about whether having her at TCC is a fit.

But they are taking the long view. There was a lot to rehabilitate after the injury. And new approaches to try.

Why on earth are we looking for the moon in 2 months after a 4 month hiatus?

If we're looking to Liza Tuktamysheva as an example, she's acknowledged that she needed to learn to train differently to stay in at her age.

TCC is already designed for that.

She also has said that she needed to accept that it took time for her body to heal. Zhenya's given her's that, and it's clear her training is not pushing too far too fast.

So, can this be put aside now?

I respect your point of view. We are all in this forum because we admire/support Evgenia. I did not think the discussion a few people are having here about their apprehensions were too inappropriate that they needed to be told off.... obviously we all want Evgenia to do well. Should a new thread be opened for this? Again I respect your point of view and would love for everything you said to be true.

A huge part of what needs to be gained is basic form, no perfect fit is required for that. What would she need to do, sip coffees at off-ice training sessions for that not to improve? She herself has said "more cardio". All of this barring another injury of course, knock on wood. Choreography and programs are another matter, but for instance transitions are something which also requires effort, it's not just the jumps that drain energy, better physical shape - more transitions would make sense. I wish they had chosen an easier music to interpret for her than Mumuki though, she already has enough to deal with.

I think the problem is. Is that non Evgenia fans keep posting in her fanfest. But I keep reposting that I am not worried.

Perhaps I'm overreacting, but my understanding was that the fan fests were created to allow true fans of a skater (and now training site) to gather in a positive and 'safe' place.

The way I imagine it, is that if a new fan of Zhenya's or Zhenya herself, were to lurk here, she'd get good vibes.

So, we need to be constructive, and careful to not go too far here as I see it. And to me, it feels that some if us are getting caught in a very negative loop.

I'm keeping in mind that at the end of last season, the fests were the only place that true fans of certain skaters could take refuge. Even when their favourites were winning, the vicious criticism on the competition threads or the Edge was too much.

I like that GS brings together a diverse group. I don't want all of Zhenya's fans to go to her own board...as has happened with some other top skaters.

All said, I feel that this is not intended to be a place for hard edged discussion. And the 'we need to be prepared for the worst' comments are feeling like they are going that direction.

To me the place for 'confronting' things is on the Edge. There is actually a 2018-2019 Evgenia Medvedeva season thread on the Edge. I stopped posting there because I felt I was talking to myself.

I think that some of the angst being worked through here might better be discussed there.
