I am waiting Dr H to make an even better one to shoom more people! Shospital needs more "residents" (I guess DBC always welcome new comers!)
Great spirit footage is a MUST! STH as well :-)

No-no, I am a serious scholar, I am writing about spins, musicality, jumps... Boring stuff.

Well, on the other hand, I made this once. :slink:

NHK has uploaded interviews with Shoma and Satoko: https://www1.nhk.or.jp/figure/ *VPN is necessary
(No subtitle no English translation :/)

Shoma back to his formal style (compare with interviews w/ Ishuin or Kanako or Arakawa...)
Just pick-up part of interview (as it last for 20min :P sorry for slacking)
**please let me know if I translated anything wrong, I am translating base on my goldfish memory**

- His result in last season:
Though he got silver (didn't win gold medal) in different (major) competitions, his feelings to each result was different. No matter what, he wanted to learn from all competition and become better in this season.
Some competitions he felt kuyashii while some he was satisfied with his performance.
World Champion was kuyashii one, rather than ranking, he thought "I was giving my best that I can, but that's not the performance it ought to be"
Olympics was a satisfied one. As he watched other competitors' performances, he knew if he can perform PERFECT (no miss is allowed) and scored his SB, he MAY win. However, as he fell on the first jump he knew he cannot win. Still, he was able to perform as what was practiced and didn't make major mistakes for the remaining part.

- Impression of Hanyu and Nathan:
He respects to Hanyu senshu as always. Hanyu is capable for many things that he is unable to do so, and he thought it's very difficult for a skater to perform well with such attention from media (but Hanyu is doing well so he highly appreciate that)
For Nathan, Shoma: I like him ("suki desu"), both his skates and personality. He really root for Nathan and wanna cheer for Nathan even greater than himself.
Though he met Nathan in ice shows like THE ICE, he didn't talk to Nathan as he can't speak English. He joked it sounds like one-sided love.

- Images after 4 years:
Shoma cannot think how he may become after 4 years. He said "if you ask me 4 years ago how am I going to be, I couldn't answer as well. 4 years ago I even couldn't jump triple axel, so how can he imagine he can jump quads after 4 years?"
He didn't think he will land another type of quad jump, on the other hand, what came to his mind is "no (major) injuries"

- Lombardia Trophy
For FS, he was able to perform as he practiced (either better or worse than that). Though he looks exhausted after FS, he said he has improved his stamina after that so stamina shouldn't be a problem now.

- Reduction of FP to 4 min
Instead of saying "reducing the time from 4.5min to 4min is harsh", it is better to say "FP is harsh", now there's no time to "rest" between elements and skaters need to be 100% condition most of the time.

- His programme for this season:
When he was asked to introduce his SP and FS...
Shoma: (a pause) ...I don't really have a fix image of those program, please watch my performance and feel it.
p.s. the reporter said STH is a "flamenco-alike" program and Shoma looks kakkaoi

As for Moonlight Sonata, when Shoma was asked what's his feeling that some ppl in internet compared his performance w/ Takahashi's and commented they looks similar. Shoma didn't have special feelings and said he will continue perform his moonlight sonata.
Shoma added, if someone really make such comparison, it's rude to Takahashi.

- NHK Trophy:
Impression: "A competition that I wanna join but it's hard to do so" (laugh)

Thank you so much gacchan. :) Shoma reveals quite a bit of himself with his answers and comments in this interview.

But that footage was low quality. Mr. Scholar, where is your HD gif on the latest "Ah, there my nipple is. Glad I didn't lose it." incident? :roll5: I'm waiting

It's Shoma's first time at NHK isn't it?
I'd love for him to podium and feel satisfied with his performances there. I think it would help him mentally prepare for Nationals too.

Looks like I may be the only one unimpressed by the new wine-coloured costume. Sure, that rich colour is delightful, and the cut is admittedly deliciously figure-hugging. Alas, for my tastes, it's just too plain to complement the staggering beauty of our kakkoii Prince. Actually, I've been somewhat underwhelmed by all of Shoma's costumes this season. Of course, our Shoma still looks fab in all of them (I'm sure he'd somehow manage to look fab wearing a sack), doing his stuff. Perhaps I'm just really missing the deep plunging necklines of yesteryear?

Luckily, there is another top Japanese men's skater whose gorgeous black/gold costume this season WoWed me. As this is our handsome Shoma's thread, that's all I have to say about that.

Itsuki just post Shoma's MS modified by Shomama:
https://twitter.com/jumokuno0108/status/1050333055628394496

Itsuki said "Mama decorated Shoma's costume for coming competitions...why was it put in my room (to wait it dried?) It's scary when you opened the door and saw a mannequin"

Wonderful work by Shomama! She's an artist!

Poor Mr. Tree being scared by the mannequin but I laughed imagining his reaction after opening his room's door 😂😂😂

Adding- thanks gacchan for sharing and translating

Wow! That looks great, and required a lot of work! Mama is so talented! Talented family! I'm imagining Itsuki's shock when he came into his room. 🤣

Thanks for sharing gacchan!!

Holey Moley, Mama Uno! Is mindreading yet another of this family's amazing talents? I can't wait to see the results of this devoted Mama's hard work when lovely Shoma next puts this costume into motion for us all! Now I am wondering how I could ever have doubted this team?

I find myself feeling super grateful for how the Uno family spoils Sho's fans with multiple costumes every season. And I love how dedicated Shoma's family is in supporting him with his sport/art! Heartfelt thanks, Uno folks.

We all have different tastes when it comes to costumes. I love the minimalist look of the purple STH costume. His past and present costumes with the frills,
beads, feathers, wings etc are all beautifully made and a work of art but they are not my cup of tea. I prefer minimalist costumes.

Isn't it great how Shoma's embracing so many new things with this new-found confidence! The minimalist look is so different to what I've seen on Shooms in the past. Perhaps an added challenge for Shoma lies in having the skating provide so much of the pizzazz? Not much of a problem with this particular program as it's shaping up to be quite spectacular! Then again, of course it is - it's Shoma Uno!

Is Sho campaigning for Itsuki / Mr. Tree for Student Council? These translations are priceless. My favorite is It might be a help of Mr. Worldly chops of the Tree. And on another note, it seems we also now have Tree Machida.

Tatsuki, Itsuki= Tree? :agree: Guess it depends on the character used. By the way, I laughed at myself when I realized I put "Coach Machida" before. Not completely wrong, MACHIko yamaDA. I must have been brainwashed by all the moans and tears about Tatsuki Machida's retirement from skating (who, by the way, seemed to get even better after he retired from competitive skating).

I think we talked about this before, but because I was curious about the meaning of names after the Tree business, I looked up Shoma. Japanese: Reaching for the truth? (Someone can verify). Hindu: Beautiful, moon rays, gentle, derived from the moon... I guess Moonlight Sonata is a good choice!
