Whew, what a day! I'm finally back in my rental after a long day of traveling, exploring Montreal and, of course, checking out some of the practices (only caught men/pairs).
Anyway, some notes specifically on Jason. I only saw the afternoon practice, I was still in transit during the morning practice. Outside what you saw in the FS run-through video, he pretty much had everything EXCEPT the 4S. He kept popping like the first few attempts, then fell on them and then eventually kind of landed them. None of them were clean though. I was encouraged he managed to do most of the program clean (3S error aside) after popping the 4S. I also like they return to his money 3F-3T combo (and added a 3A-2T-2T!).
Now have seeing the FS in person, I'd say it's still a work in progress, but I definitely not in the mind that he should dump it. He definitely is connecting to the music a lot more and as some of you noted, there's some new choreography -- I agree the back spiral is really nice! I also noticed more expression and audience connection -- it's fun to see him express different types of emotions to the audience other than drama/high-energy perk.
I think his skating skills continue to improve. One interesting thing (which you'd likely notice) is that he's doing more quick crossovers, rather than kind of the long flowy ones we've seen him do, to generate speed, which I think is designed to help him with the new jump technique, perhaps. But overall, it's cool to see him be even faster and have better edges then Nationals just nine months ago.
Also, as I said elsewhere, I can't believe Ted ran a camera AND did commentary. Pretty impressive stuff.
