Well, that might be ideal, but I think we might be waiting for a while. I was actually kind of interested to see that it's just Jason being Jason, and not a dynamic with Kori and Rohene.

And I remember when I worried, oh Brian won't be in the KnC with him and people won't think he's "important" enough for Brian. And now he is. Little things make me happy:biggrin:

Jason is feeling so much better about his jump technique, he says jumps are coming along but not in autopilot yet. He's working on rotation quickness. Salchow technique is coming better than the toe at the moment, that's why he puts a 4S in the program. #SCI18 #GPFigure

Yeah yeah yeah! Seriously, you’re right, it is interesting that it’s just Jason. I wonder why he does it - I think it may have started at SA 2016, but remember at 2017 Worlds where the entire audience caught it on the monitor and laughed?

Anyway, not surprisingly, he doesn’t have the same relaxed level of comfort with Lee and Brian that he had with Kori and Rohene. Theyre very different than Kori and Rohene, and Jason...well he’s very different than Javi or Hanyu. It’ll be fun to see the relationships develop.
 
I can’t wait to see Jason compete again but I think it’s a good thing it’s several weeks away. He has a lot of time to work.

I liked what the Eurosport guys said about “if the 3A-3T was a sign of things to come”.
 
Staring at the protocols, Jason did lots of the Jason things very well. A level 4 step sequence that scored the highest of the event (just edging Kevin Aymoz in that category) The second highest combination spin (Shoma first) The highest scoring FCSp4 spin. His other spin only got level 3, and his choreo step had room for improvement.

And that 3A3T scored 14.14, better than Shoma's 4T2T! Jason who used to struggle with getting a really good Axel!! And it was the highest scoring 2 jump combo in the event. It was outscored by Sadovsky's 4S+1Eu+3S and the 3A+1Eu+3S, but scored more than the other 7 three jump combinations done here.

His 3Lo got grades from 0 to +4 I think the judges did not expect such a nice loop from Jason, but it was within a third of a point of the best 3Lo at 6.02. (Keegan got 6.30). Junhwa had more, but when you backed the bonus out, it was 5.9+, so less. Kazuki had 6.1. So the loop was right up there.

The Lutz was good, and the edge was good.

So for a guy reworking his jumps, Jason is showing progress.

Interesting comment at the end when Tracey says Jason told her after the SP that he doesn't know where to go when he competes because he gets stuck between the old and the new. Hopefully this is something that time will make easier.

I've totally enjoyed watching Jason's Gala skate from today even though I've seen the SOI version so many times. The quality of the video is especially good that his charisma just jumps off of the screen. I feel like I can see his eyes twinkle. :)
 
Latecomer to the fan fest-- I've really been living under a rock the past few years. Jason has the best artistry in male FS-- I can't believe his charisma and vulnerability on ice!

Very few people in this world have the ability to draw people in the way Jason does. I hope he skates for a very long time. He contributes so much even without the quads (side note: I really hated a lot of the Olympic skating because I felt artistry was lost because people were too busy attempting quads and falling). Jason... when he skates... just takes my breath away, draws me in and takes me on a journey. THAT ability is so special and so precious.

TLDR:
I loved his FS at SCI18 and even the SP even with the mistakes. It fits him so well and I am looking forward to seeing his next performance. :)

And I think you sum up well how we feel about Jason, his artistry, and what he brings to skating. With or without quads.

And @Rosa74, I agree with you, I’ve seen that exhibition many times, but that SC vid is delightful. :dance3: Bringing home what we love about Jason too.
 
So happy for Jason that he had a redemptive skate of sorts in the FS. That's quite a feat to pull up from 11 to 6th. I hope as he becomes more and more comfortable in his new training environment he will deal with his competition nerves a little better. I've always thought of him as being strong with the mental game...I was in the arena, and he definitely had a lot of fans there. Regardless of his placement, he is always a crowd favorite...Wishing him a great season!
 
I watched the NBC coverage last night and I really feel that Jason's skating skills and artistry really surpasses everyone . (Ok, Shoma was pretty awesome as well) I am not surprised that he had the 3rd highest PCS for the FS.
I would have had him 2nd. His posture and carriage are better than many of the ladies as well. I know all the high difficulty jumps were not there but he is still such s beautiful skater to watch. I am proud to be a longtime fan.
 
Hello from the Toronto airport. First time on GS since I left home. You could see Jason at war with himself during the short. His warmup was solid. So that first fall was a shock. But he kept his spirits up and skated his free so much better. I think he’ll stop squeezing his eyes shut he feels like he did a great job in his skate. Brian was applauding like crazy during that step sequence. After the short he looked serious and said Skate from here (heart) not from here (head.) Gorra catch my flight. Later!
 
Who will be present at IdF in Grenoble?? Surprise Alert! Jerry Solomon approved a casual little M&G - all the details still to be worked on, location, time/day, how many people will be involved etc. Anyone interested? :hap10:

Thanks @Bookseller - it’s really nice to get your first-hand impressions, and especially to hear that Brian was applauding his step sequence like crazy - would love to have seen that... @iamSkylar, welcome to the Jason thread! Hope you become a regular here. @babyskate, Ted Barton has mentioned Jason’s beautiful posture several times recently - it does really contribute to his elegance. @Mrs P hope you had a great trip. @Rosa74, I do think that comment he made to Tracy is pretty telling. It’s pretty much the same thing he said in that PH article and I’m guessing Zhenya is going though something similar. I expect we may continue to see that internal fight for awhile, maybe even in France, but eventually I think he’ll come out the other side. Brian’s timeline was about 18 months, right? So it’s a bit soon to expect anything. @Arriba627, thanks as always for your positive comments- hoping that Sho survived his fall! @MGStyle how exciting about the meet and greet! I won’t be in France, :( but I hope you have a great time! I have to get back to work and I know I didn’t respond to everyone, but it’s just so nice to see this thread active. Hope it continues!

I'll be there - would love to come along. I met Jason at Skate Canada last year - in fact, he and Patrick Chan were the reasons that I travelled thousands of miles from Sheffield to Saskatchewan for my first figure skating event. When I met Jason, my nerve failed me, and all the things I wanted to say to him (about how he'd inspired me, got me hooked on figure skating, and brought me so much joy), never got said, and all I managed was a feeble "well done". It would be good to have another chance!
