Junhwan Cha

I'm not setting my hopes as high as a podium finish, that'll only be possible if 1)Yuzuru withdraws (I darn hope he does, he has more medals than ankles) 2)Junhwan is 100% clean without any URs and most importantly 3)the other bronze contenders bomb so hard that the PCS cushion doesn't work. Right now, I just want him to skate clean and get himself a score that will surprise him at the KnC. Look after yourself and stay healthy darling, no injuries or illnesses allowed :roll5:

I was already at a party when I got the news Saturday evening, but that party just got a lot better with the news of Jun being in the Final!

The GPF is a tough competition. But a lot can happen, we will just have so sit in front of out TVs and wait. But I'm so hyped for it now! so many of my favourites on the same Ice!

It may be that even participating at GPF will make his PCS higher at the future competitions. What worries me though are the new boots... Has he had enough time for breaking the boots in?

Most likely yes. It's probably already been 2 weeks. But our main worry is if they will fit him and not cause him to aggravate his lingering injuries from the previous season, since that was a problem last year. I feel like it should be ok though.

Congratulations to Jun on qualifying for GPF! With the way he’s been skating, I think he could do quite well and even medal. Looking forward to seeing him skate!

If Junhwan happens to get on the podium I will be getting stupid drunk, but a part of me is afraid that if he does the media will start that "male Yuna" (bleep) again and put all the pressure onto him. Jin Boyang said on his interview that the attention got to him, and the Korean press is nothing if not demanding. I know this is premature thinking, but the fear is still with me. Aargh I don't know, just stay healthy and wow the world darling.

lol the media will say stupid stuff regardless of the results tbh. It's going to take more olympic/world champs coming out of korea to stop the yuna comparisons. I'm just glad he's in toronto training most of the time.

I'm so excited that he made it to the GPF! I know we'll all be cheering him on no matter where he places (he got to the Final after all!!) but wouldn't it be amazing if he made the podium...

GPF preview talk from Korean TV http://news.kbs.co.kr/news/view.do?ncd=4086509&ref=A

My Korean is far from fluent but here goes my attempt at summarizing this. Please kindly correct me if I'm wrong :)

On Junhwan's chance in the GPF: Bronze is possible if he's in good condition and perform with confidence (Would be extremely difficult to beat the "Big three")
Looks like they are starting to build up for 2022. They talked about how Junhwan is the youngest in this year's GPF. Also gave examples of skaters that made it to GPF by the age of 17 who became Olympics and World Champion (Yagudin, Plushenko, Yuzuru, Patrick, Nathan). The guy also mention how Yuzuru was in GPF at 17, got 4th, and went on to win Sochi Olympics - suggesting that Junhwan can very well go on the same trajectory and that this GPF is the first step towards Beijing

Oh please please don't let them start pressuring him this early.... I've got fingers crossed for him for the next three years but I hope he doesn't get overhyped as we get closer.

Unfortunately it's inevitable... there will be no shortage of ridiculous headlines and content. Good thing he's got a good head on his shoulders.

If they're talking about a "Big three", they must not have known about Hanyu's withdrawal. I see a "big two" (Chen and Uno), but not a third in the current lineup.

God they've started the "Olympic Champion did A, went on to win gold, Aspiring Talent is doing A too" s(bleep) again, I know Junhwan has good sense and calm mentality (bless that darling), but please don't let him go to the Naver sports section or any other platform that will be spouting that (bleep)...

No, they're saying "There used to be a big three (Yuzuru, Uno Shoma, Nathan Chen), but since now Yuzuru has withdrawn Junhwan has a shot at bronze."

Sorry for not being clear, as Ichatdelune had clarified, I meant to write “two of the big three”

I do fear for the imminent pressure from the whole country on Junhwan as well but at least his head is in a good place and he’s with a team that should know how to deal with it all.

I just want him to have a season's best for both sp and fs. The podium will be a great bonus.

the media also did it last OWG. This kind of thing is not new, every federation pressure their athletes to attain better results, I guess.:slink:

My hopes are clean programs and a haircut.:dbana: Korean media should stop it with the "next Yuna" stuff and send in stylists because I loved his look at Ice Fantasia. I also wished he had a more colorful costume for his SP. Hope the boots fit and he's in good shape!:) Also the judges need to stop holding back on the PCS for his SP. He goes from straight 7s in the SP to 8s in the FP after doing well in the SP.:noshake:

I'd just like to mention that he was on a podium at every competitions this season. So if he's not bored with getting medals ;) I wish him more. No pressure. He looks great on a podium, that's all :luv17:.
