Rudy being open about his sexual orientation though, really changed the dynamics of the press coverage. Rudy's orientation was no longer a story or issue (after he came out) and the press moved on.
Yet so many posters here have not moved on. Or even made the real connection.
My friend said the same thing when we went skating, about me - "...that was flamboyant and femmie" - and I'm not gay but I am rather feminine and flamboyant most of the time - heck I wear eye cream, watch Entertainment tonight and know what the best eyelash curler on the market is. But his point was, he wants / exspects to see a different
style of skating from a man then a woman, so did his wife watching Johnny during the Olys. They both loved the fluff piece about him saying "he is really cool, I like his attitude." But thought his skating was "out of place" in the mens comp. Also saying that about a few positions of a couple of the men.
It is general public perception. Again, EVERYONE knows there are homosexuals in FS, EVERYONE! It is accepted and OK to anyone who would watch. They [ISU, etc..] want to get more audience participation via audience connection, not the negative view of disconnection. That is silly. I am sure there (not so bright IMO) marketing staff has even figured that one out. And Why in the hell would they want to "sever ties" to a large group of people involved already. This Hetrophobic / Homophobic stuff just does not make sense from growth or sustain marketing POV.
Now if they could let the classes be genderless and have "feminine and masculine" opposed to "Ladies and Men" would you all be happy?

I can't believe how few see that there is a preexisting decorum that ANYONE who does ANYTHING that is out of the norm is going to catch some flack. Some will be good and some bad.
And if Johnny didn't agree with this in some manner, do you think he would have "changed his style" this year.
