2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

My, my, it's become fashionable to hate on Konstantinova, hasn't it?

Feel free to review all her jumps vs Med using similar standards for each.

I did and I'm unbiased. I was fuming mad after Vincent's 4CC short and I'm American. In no universe was Stanislava's 3Lo around. None. She came down completely forward and snapped around. It is plain as day. I would have downgraded that so fast and with zero sleep lost over it.

The 2A was close. Close. I watched over and over again, and in my personal opinion she just got there. I wouldn't have been upset if it was called, but IIRC the benefit of the doubt goes to the skater. With Stanislava there was no doubt.

Also, I believe you had a lot of excuses for Vincent so I'm not surprised.

Found this in Anastastiia’s fan thread

It’s an ice level HD video of her SP today (I had a different angle on my stream from a greater distance) but what I liked about this angle is that it really captures her facial expressions and gives an interesting and close look at the detail of her interpretation. She looks so calm and cool as if she was really enjoying herself today. Maybe even a bit of ego mixed in too right after she lands her jumps too

Good for her...her jumps are a bit tilted at take off but she lands exceptionally smooth on a very nice running edge.

Whether you like this program or her or not doesn’t matter. This angle is very interesting from an analytical point of view. I think it’s really close to or just at the side of the judges point of view.

Ahhh I love fan videos so much! It makes me feel like I'm there in the arena. So much love for this girl today from me :luv17:

I like Gubanova's skaing so much, but her jumps really prevent me from enjoying her programs and rewatching them again and again. It's one of the fs pet peeves of mine - long preparation for jumps. She just slides...and slides...and a bit more. I'm pretty sure that should prevent her from getting high GEO's on her jumps and it breaks the immersion to the program.

If only she could fix that, she would be quite competitive.

I was looking closely at Stanislava's jumps too. But I think they were just inside. Doesn't the rules say that you need to be "less than a quarter turn" inside before you call it an UR?

I didn‘t see any UR on Stasya‘s toeloop, not even in the replay. The Loop was UR, yes, but not << as some have claimed... I mean, I wouldn‘t be too happy if Stasya would end up being the one to go to Worlds since she is super inconsistent out of Russia and I would be scared for the spots but hating on her doesn‘t do any good either. The thing is, she always skates fantastically in nationals events, so naturally she will get high scores. She also has great skating skills and really performed today. Her inconsistency outside of Russia is a problem and I understand why a lot of people don‘t want her at Worlds (me included) but I don‘t know why she wouldn‘t deserve her scores today...

We did it another site.

Have fun.

I must say your theory is right up there with those who claim I'm Japanese/Korean because I "bash" Russian ladies, and Russian according to those who claim I "bash" Japanese ladies. I wonder of which nationality I truly am.

If you want to be nitpicky nobody of the 3 world contenders 'deserved' her score today and would get close to it with an international panel. Everybody can complain about rusflation/missing calls of who they want to complain about and they are right :P It's expected

Gubanova amazing.

Gulyakova was also great, but I'm missing the 3A she announced :(

Sima jumped a 3-3 after her disaster last week in Germany - she is showing a lot of fight! This was the biggest surprise for me today.

My biggest disappointment: I know she is not in contention but I'm sad everytime Alena Leonova falls... meh.

Agreeeee

I know you can't really compare but...if this short program contest was inserted into the European Championship it would have been Russia 1-10...:yahoo: Paganini and Lindfors would have been 11th and 12th after the short.

You just conceded that she was at least UR but then said she deserves her scores today. That doesn't make sense. We have seen at Euros that the international panel isn't shy to downgrade her. Sure she fell there but it just goes to show she is having significant problems with getting rotation. Yes in my opinion it was << but I would have been satisfied with <. I can see how the argument is made. And FWIW I agree with you about the 3T. I thought the lutz was a little close but overall I think I would have left the whole combo alone.

You are correct about her performance quality. I love this short and she hits it out of the park every time. When I watch Stanislava skate I see many of the same qualities that I see in Evgenia. But if they're going to send her to worlds they need to do it right. Call what needs to be called and then if shes STILL the best one she goes fair and square. But they'd be shooting themselves in the foot to do it this way.

Apart from Zhenya, because I'm totally biased on that front, Gubanova was my favourite. I would've given her 2 more PCS compared to how the rest skated. She's absolutely lovely and my favourite program of the day for sure.

Gubanova was my favorite as well.

Thanks, this FSRussia is FFKKR's own channel, I suppose they use the video footage from JuniorTV?

Gubanova really was 'on' today, and hopefully she will repeat tomorrow in the FS. Not being a favourite, her chances for a WC spot are slim, IMO, but some good GP starts will do her reputation good and would allow us to admire her skating.

Those young seniors really went out to impress today, but given how 'ranking' and 'seniority' works, they will find themselves between a rock and a hard place next season once the Tutberidze Three Awesome Aces start to meddle in the senior field of play.

She’s a bit of an old soul. I always cover my face at takeoff but when I can go back and rewatch her performances I’m always amazed at how smoothly she exits her jumps. She seems to transfer her momentum from her hands and arms like a wave of water flowing through every part of her body right down to her toes. I really liked her jumps today but I agree she coasts into them and I too like a quicker set up but Anastasiia is a bit of a soulful skater as opposed to a perfectionist who is executing perfect form with each detail. She flows and glides about and I don’t think she’s looking to change from that much. I like the diversity and quality of skating she brings.

Gubanova's skating is just too good for Russian ladies singles.
I wish she would go into ice dance(her jumps are not good).
But at the same time I wish Russia would send her to Worlds... :dev3: mixed feelings about Gubanova.
The only certainty I have is that she was a joy to watch, beautiful edges, truly high level skating skills. I didn't see protocols, if someone got higher SS marks than her I'd like to watch that because, how come?
I'm looking forward to watching Gubanova's Free, it must be great! :luv17:

Oh, I meant PCS as in she deserved her scores today. I worded that wrongly, I‘m sorry. I thought the 3Lo was under, so yes, she should have lost points there. But otherwise she did deserve her scores. She‘s had a lot of 3Ts in combo that were clearly more under and weren‘t called. This one was fine, so I‘m okay.

I‘ll be honest: in my opinion sending Stasya to Worlds wouldn‘t be a good idea. Yes, it‘s very likely for her to win tomorrow, she has a great chance. But she never has two clean skates outside of Russia. This year, Sofia is the only one on the team who is rocksolid. They really need to make sure to not lose their spots for next years when they will have even more girls battling it out. Maybe it‘s unfair to her but I just don‘t have a good feeling. I like her a lot and I agree about what you said, in some parts I really see a bit of Zhenya‘s performance quality in her but if pressure manages to get to her all the time... I just wouldn‘t be too happy if she really got to go.
