2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Tarusina's flutz is obvious but you don't think her height and projection on all her jumps will improve as she grows stronger? I really think she may be one of the exceptions of the puberty diminishment rule and it may actually really help her. She literally just turned 16 and looks like she has otherwise great technique and knee bend.

And as for the flutz in general, honestly doesn't like 80% of female skaters have a flutz? I've rewatched lots of late 90's and 2000's programs and they all had the same edge issues we see today and did versions of the flutz from Witt and Bonaly to 3 of my all time favorites, Kwan, Queen Butros, and Alina.

Thanks for the medical discord. I won't comment on it because frankly... I have no idea and don't want to spread some questionable theories LUL

Far to many skaters don't have a good Lutz - We see lot's of blade assistance and edge problems.
Imho a lot of this is a consequence of judges in the past not rewarding the right technique and calling out wrong jumps.
Now, more people care and the public outrage about 'flutzes' is too much even for me :P
But wrong jumps should - and deserve to be called. Some skaters like Anna T (or Shoma Uno when he still jumped it, have you seen past Lutz jumps of famous culpid Zhenya Medvedeva and the outcry when they were reviewed and not called?) can only jump their 'Lutzes' from a clear inside edge - obvious deserved e call and a major reduction in BV and GOE.
If you can at least jump from an unclear edge - or an edge so minimal judges and viewers don't notice it in real time (Kostornaia, Samodurova, Sakamoto...) it's at max a '!' call and GOE distraction. Very minor compared to the e :(
(tech panels are still often lenient with top skaters: ! for e and nothing for ! but you can't expect leniency internationally as a nobody like Anna from russia :/)

If you can only jump 1 3Lz (and you hope you won't get an e call) instead of the max of 3 your BV suffers a lot. Russia has a lot of also great girls without this problem so your chances are really small. Top consistency doesn't seem to be enough...

Anybody else noticed how now that Buianova is not sitting in the K&C with Tarusina anymore her scores dropped again? :D

It will be interesting to see who RusFed wants to see at GPs next year: Gubanova, Tarusina or Sima. Sima isn't in great shape atm. I think Gulyakova could only surprise with the 3A.

The only certainty I have is that she was a joy to watch, beautiful edges, truly high level skating skills. I didn't see protocols, if someone got higher SS marks than her I'd like to watch that because, how come?
I'm looking forward to watching Gubanova's Free, it must be great! :luv17:

Liza, Zhenya, and Stasya all bested her in SS. Zhenya scores 9.30 to Anastasiia’s 8.30.

Anastasiia was the only one to achieve a level 4 StSeq too.

No matter today's and tomorrow's outcome and the promised announcement of the World Championshops skaters by the FFKKR assembly, the WC will be a whole different competition.
WC being an individual event I always wonder how team spirit in Russian FS works with this rivalry between Moscow, CSKA and Sankt Peterburg.

I am fairly certain the skaters don't hate each other, but in the ranks of established and upcoming trainers, the rivalry would be much more intense.

Moscow, CSKA ans STP deserve 3 spots each :D In a way :D

Is this competition better than euros?

LOL, you've been on this board since 2014 so you should know ....

Each of the skaters that competed today could be national champion of any country in Europe or elsewhere in the world where figure skating isn't a national sport like in Russia.

Oh, I meant PCS as in she deserved her scores today. I worded that wrongly, I‘m sorry. I thought the 3Lo was under, so yes, she should have lost points there. But otherwise she did deserve her scores. She‘s had a lot of 3Ts in combo that were clearly more under and weren‘t called. This one was fine, so I‘m okay.

I‘ll be honest: in my opinion sending Stasya to Worlds wouldn‘t be a good idea. Yes, it‘s very likely for her to win tomorrow, she has a great chance. But she never has two clean skates outside of Russia. This year, Sofia is the only one on the team who is rocksolid. They really need to make sure to not lose their spots for next years when they will have even more girls battling it out. Maybe it‘s unfair to her but I just don‘t have a good feeling. I like her a lot and I agree about what you said, in some parts I really see a bit of Zhenya‘s performance quality in her but if pressure manages to get to her all the time... I just wouldn‘t be too happy if she really got to go.

This is a different Stasya. She is maturing at 18 not 15 the way skaters used to. If she wins tomorrow she goes to world's. She will not finish 18th like last year. Guaranteed!

Whoever wins tomorrow between Liza Zhenya and Stasya goes. It should be simple but it's not. Hope there is no complaining about the scoring. ;)

They are picking the third candidate for the Worlds. Alina and Sofia are confirmed but the third spot goes to either Liza or Zhenya, depending on the final outcome of the Cup of Russia.

The entire Team hasn't been confirmed yet outside of Sofia, don't be too sure about alina yet.

If Alinas spot was in question, she would be participating here.

2 slots are decided, 3 spots are in the air.

Well, I hope so. I thought so too but Euros scared me a bit. She came back in the FS but the SP wasn‘t good, unfortunately. If she gets to go, I‘ll root for her, of course. But I won‘t feel too secure.

There will always be complaining about the scoring. It‘s inevitable. For me, personally, I‘m very happy with how my favorite - Zhenya - skated today. The most important is to see her happy and proud and that‘s what happened today and what I hope to see tomorrow, regardless of the end result. Even though I will root for her primarily, of course, I won‘t wish the others bad luck either. I hope they all do well and the best gets to go in the end.

I also hope that whoever goes to Worlds won‘t go to the Universiade so that the other two will be able to go. This way we can see all three of them again. Good luck to everyone tomorrow.
