On the US East Coast, the competitions start around 11 pm and continue into the early morning hours. It's going to be brutal for those of us who follow the action live. :ohwell:

Which channel will broadcast it live?

There's no 'channel', unless you are in Canada and can get CBC, or can get Eurosport audio. But you can follow the action on FSU board and the live results on the ISU board. FSU often has what they call "secret spies" on site at the competition who report back via text messaging (although this may be difficult or impossible with the restrictions on cameras and cell phones in Tokyo).

I always follow the live results and the internet chat, and set up Eurosport audio if It's available.

thanks. are these times eastern or pacific

Please, stop with the colors!

The times JoeSitz posted are JAPANESE time, which is 13 hours ahead of the East Coast, 14 hours ahead of Central, 15 hours ahead of Mountain, and 16 hours ahead of Pacific time.

So the CD, which starts at noon on Tuesday, March 20 starts:

EDT: Monday, March 19th 11 pm. Pairs starts at 4:10am Tuesday and ends at 8 am
CDT: Monday, March 19th 10 pm. Pairs starts at 3:10am Tuesday and ends at 7 am
MDT: Monday, March 19th 9 pm. Pairs starts at 2:10am Tuesday and ends at 6 am
PDT: Monday, March 19th 8 pm. Pairs starts at 1:10am Tuesday and ends at 5 am

As you can see, if you live in the US you're facing an all-nighter.

You mean, there is no live TV coverage in USA?

no, we never get it live. The ladies feeskate MIGHT be live but with the time diffrence i really doubt it. We will see it within the week on ABC and ESPN though.

Oh. And we complain that we never get ENOUGH live coverage. Now I know we are lucky guys even to see it not live but the very day it takes place!!!

You can probably watch Eurosport online, although the quality is pretty poor.

You can also watch cctv5 via interenet, which has a bit better quality. CCTV5 is dispatching a team to Tokyo. However, due to scheduling conflict(lots of live events such as world swimming championships etc), there will be only limited live coverage. I believe pairs' SP and LP will be carried live. All other disciplines are likely to be broadcasted in tape delayed form.

Will find out more next week. I am always in post-worlds mood, not much enthusiasm left for this season.

We (in Russia) will have Eurosport and RTR-Sport broadcasts... but the time... for European part of Russia live coverages will be in worktime, so we'll have to miss work or to record it, or to hope on later tape form...

So CBC will be showing it live? Im on the border, and the only Canadian channel we get is CBC, so thats good.

Thanks, for us folks in Canada the CBC will be broadcasting the Worlds and their coverage is always top notch.

Thanks for the info on CCTV5, iloveaxel. I was hoping they would have live coverage ... the quality is much better on my computer than Eurosport. Please keep us posted if you don't mind. Thanks

The reason that CCTV will show only Pairs live is that is the only event where the Chinese are sure to win at least one medal, maybe more. They have no shot at a medal in the singles and ice dance events.

Eurosport will have live coverage from most disciplines, although they probably not show all of the skaters because of the time difference. Think the coverage will start around 7-8 am CET each day, and I'm quite sure they'll show the taped versions later on the day/evening too. Thank god for eurosport!

Country Canada to air it LIVE!!!

I just read elsewhere (well, ok..on FSU) that CBC Country Canada will be airing a good chunk of the competition live!

http://www.cbccountrycanada.ca/skating_schedule.html

This is so exciting. Looking at the broadcast times, the schedule grid on zap2it (what we have as of right now) and the schedule on the Worlds website, it looks like it's not only going to be carried live, but we'll be seeing almost the whole competition.

(for those outside of Canada, Country Canada is a specialty channel carried by cable and satellite companies in Canada and isn't available over the air)

I don't subscribe to CC, but I'll be subscribing first thing Monday. I'm still amazed at this.

This is the kind of thing I've been hoping would happen for some time now. I have always maintained that I would be willing to pay a premium for wall-to-all pay-per-view coverage of a major competition such as Worlds or Canadians.

Now that an opportunity like this has come up, you can be sure that I'm not only going to subscribe, but will make sure that both CBC and skate Canada know that I think this is a fabulous idea.

Who knows, if enough people support this sort of thing, it may happen again

Peter, they have been doing w/all of the major sports Championships they have the rights for as of last year. I realized too late this week I could have watched our Freestyle Ski Team shoot the lights out at the Freestyle Worlds this weekend live on CBC CC, but...

Those times are not going to be fun, but I can't wait to see it live instead of having to wait to see the same day coverage on the main CBC later that night!!

Hey Tigger, this is even better news. I noticed that they have extensive equestrian coverage and I was wondering if there was any chance of the same thing happening here as wel.

I guess if that's what they're doing, this channel is a keeper.

As for the times, it will be fun. I remember the last time Worlds were in Japan and CTV aired their package live on TSN also at a very early hour. It was a lot of fun to get up early and watch the coverage before heading off to work. However, this time around, my PVRs should be able to handle things for me in case I conk out :) (hell, I might even take a vacation day or two if I can swing it)

That is indeed what they have been doing Peter. They had exclusive coverage of the World Equestrian Games from Germany last summer and, even though the time difference was a pain in the you know what, it was a delight to be able to get the same coverage our European friends enjoy as normal coverage of Equestrain events. :)

I just wish I'd remembered to check about World Freestyle this past week and weekend. Especially to see that lovely finish and podium in Ladies Moguls.

It's going to be nerve wracking to watch live, but I think I'll be able to handle it. My poor Teddy Bear Izzie though...She's my clutch and squeeze to death and hide my eyes into thing I cling to during stressful stuff. This might just end up seeing stuffing flying this time. ;)

Is it a bad thing I'm already planning various breakfast items to put together ahead of time?
