Jason Brown

Hi Tim, and welcome to the Jason fan fest! Your handle reminds me of one of my favorite films, Strictly Ballroom (because of the character Tina Sparkle!).

So funny! Hubby and I were sitting in a brewery when I saw this. I read it to him and we both laughed because it's one of our favorite guilty pleasure movies! We own it and agreed we need to watch it soon. We were in Parker, we should have invited you down. ;) Have you seen the Japanese movie Shall We Dance? We love that one as well and it's so much better than the American knock-off.

Another weird thing. Again while at the brewery, I noticed that someone posted on Jason's latest Mother's Day insta that she enjoyed having dinner with him and his mom in Hampton, Va. Well, small world. Hampton, Va is where I grew up, and there's not a lot there except for military bases. I'm sure he was there when he was doing one of Audrey's sessions, but still weird. When I was growing up, there were probably no ice skating rinks within 200 miles. They were also showing downhill ice skating on the big screens. Anyone seen that? I didn't even know it existed.

Yay, another Strictly Ballroom fan - I own it too! I’m not familiar with the Japanese film Shall we Dance but will look it up!

Re Hampton, that is quite a coincidence!

I think I’ve vaguely heard of downhill ice skating- I bet it’s really dangerous. Shudder.

So, on a completely different note, here is a brief clip of the violinist Itzhak Perlman, who plays the SL theme on the soundtrack, discussing the importance of violins in concentration camps. I had no idea.

http://www.pbs.org/wnet/americanmas...rlman-plays-theme-from-schindlers-list/10761/

And here is a live recording of a much younger Perlman playing the theme in concert:

https://www.cpr.org/classical/video/video-itzhak-perlman-performs-schindlers-list-theme

That small piece with Itzhak Perlman was fascinating: also that the one piece that he is asked to play, wherever he appears, is the theme from Schindler's List

and downhill ice skating, yikes:eeking:

And finally, I had no idea that Jason was featured in any Skate America publicity. Makes sense, as Nathan and Vincent cannot be assigned the same comp. But I've only seen the Ashley and Tim SP photos, and I have to say, those costumes are great for a Vegas show PR, IMHO. (off topic from Jason....)

Back on topic for costumes: how about black? Maybe Jason will wear black for SL, gray would be too much like Josh, and what else could it be? Maybe navy?

Thank god no bowling shirt:devil:

Giant pic of Nathan, followed by smaller one of Jason, with disclaimer:

I wouldn’t assume no bowling shirt - after all, people bowled in Germany didn’t they? They’ll just make it black and gray striped. :dev2:

I actually would rather that Jason get a slightly later GP than Skate America. He'll probably do AC, but last year his programs evolved all through the season and he really wasn't fully ready until France. The programs probably won't evolve as much this year, since he's more solid on the new technique. But yes, SA will want two big names if they can get them and might insist. Shoma didn't medal at World's, so he can do SA and often does. Yuzu will probably get Japan and maybe SCI? So Jason will probably end up at either SA or SCI. We'll see!

When will we know which competitions he'll attend the coming season? This is something I must see live

In past years Jason did summer competitions to trial his programs in front of judges and to see what worked and what didn't before the season began. He usually did Broadmoor and Glacier Falls, although one year he did Skate Milwaukee. Last year he didn't do any because of the coaching change / recovery from injury. If he does any this year, I would expect them to be closer to where he trains rather than returning to Broadmoor / Glacier Falls. And, if El Henry is really lucky, he could do Philadelphia International (especially since his good friend Gracie Gold has mentioned competing at it as one of her goals.)

Skate America or Skate Canada seem like good candidates for one of his GPs. The only GP he hasn't done in his career is Cup of China and the Chinese Federation could select him for it this year, especially because of the work he's been doing training with the Chinese team.

ETA:
The Brown siblings are in Slovenia

If Jason should end up doing the Philly Invitational, I will definitely find a reason to visit family in the area. :)

I was thinking COC might be a possibility for Jason this year, and it would work time-wise if he does SA.

Anyone guess that the bike trip would be in Slovenia? I was thinking more along the lines of Spain or Portugal, mainly because my neighbors are currently biking there and I want to go. :) Hope they have a fantastic vacation.

I would love to see Jason skate in Philly, but we'll see! I am only about 2 hours from Philly, so it would be possible. It's the city where I was born. None of the GPs are close enough to go to, particularly since we are planning on World's in Montreal. As for Slovenia, he said that he wanted to revisit Croatia, so that might be on the agenda as well. Slovenia is gorgeous. It's a fairy tale landscape. It is truly beautiful.

Who else at TCC will be eligible for the GPs this year? Zhenya, Jason, Yuzu are givens. But who else? Will the three go to the same comps or will they split up this year? Yuzu will do Japan for sure, if he's healthy enough to skate. Zhenya won't get Russia, because Alina will get Russia. So Jason and Zhenya could potentially travel together again. They could both do Japan. Though Japan hasn't been the kindest GP venue for Jason.

JunHwan Cha? I hope Jason will get a GP in Europe so I could have a chance to see him skate live for the first time! Please, Grenoble again! And if he will qualify for the GPF here in Italy I will do whatever it takes to see him!! ♡♡♡

FYI - Evgenia has alluded to NHK (in a Pantene contest for fans), so quite possible.

Aside from that, I suspect they will both do SCI.

Right! Junhwan! Brian wouldn't want to have 3 male skaters at one GP, but he would be happy with 2. Jason and Jun can be assigned anywhere. Yuzu can't be at the same comp with Vince or Nathan. Zhenya can't be at the same comp with Alina or Rika. Rika will go to Japan. So Zhenya wouldn 't go to Japan. So that leaves SA, SCI, COC and France. Yuzu will go to Japan, but not SA since either Vince or Nathan will be there. So that leaves SCI, COC and France. It will be interesting! I can see Jason and Jun going to the same comps.

Evgenia and Rika can be at the same competition. Only Alina, Elizabet T. and Evgenia (1st, 2nd and 3rd at Worlds) can't be at the same competition (and Rika, Kaori and Satoko, 4th, 5th and 6th at Worlds).

Is it up to the skaters to decide where to compete? I mean I know that the first three at worlds can't go to the same competitions but why are you sure Alina will get Russia and not Evgenia? Just curious.

This is OT here - but that is an assumption based on last year's GP assignments. I wish Evgenia would get Rostelecom! But unlikely.

Thanks, everyone, for your indulgence.

If Jason goes to Phila International

:dbana::dbana::dbana:

But I don’t have high hopes. TCC does not seem big on summer comps, from what I can tell, and Skate Detroit would be waaaay closer. But who knows:biggrin:

There's also Conrad Orzel for GP spots - it appears he's going senior, and he should get at least a Skate Canada host spot based on his Nationals result, and maybe a second spot. Although his main coach is Lee Barkell, so I don't know if he'll still be with TCC next season with Lee leaving.

I read something yesterday (sorry, don't remember where) that Conrad said he is staying at TCC.

Thanks for the Grand Prix talk. I've never been clear about how the selections work.

I want all TCC skaters at Philadelphia International.

You forgot Cha Jun Hwan.
Conrad Orzel should be senior? Joseph Phan night still participate in junior tournaments.

Then we need to wait & see where Gabby Daleman goes. Follow Lee Barkell to his new employment or stay at TCC or totally change coaches, location.
