Blades of Glory promo!

as for it being professional competitions - I say knock of the hate for those that are pros... most of them are better SKATERS than the new crop anyway :p
I hope I didn't sound like I had hate for pros, not the case for me. The forum and guidelines of the pro competitions is solely what is was indicating needs, deserves and personifies that which is 80% of the time "hooky" appearing and as Will was saying in an interview, he didn't have to look to far for something funny. We ALL know that due to the amount of "Funny / Humorous" routines in pros intentionally. There are SOME better pros yes, but the pro COMPETITION circuit will have to drastically change if it is ever going to be taken as serious.

"Most" people think the pros are what the worlds were (Senior Ams) and "pros" are accatuly ALL just Ice shows.
there are some funny scenes shown on the trailors, but it's been my experience all the jokes are shown on the trailors and the crap is left for the screen
ITA. That is a good reason to wait for DVD as well as the "behind the scenes extras, out takes etceteras that will have some of our fave skaters in. The "Easter Eggs" on the DVD will make it worth it to me.

they were actually really good even with the couple of clowns that were in some of them that just posed on the ice

Boitano, Hamilton, Browning, Wylie all took it very seriously

Kwanford Wife

Ha, ha, ha! I can't wait for the basketball one either. Equal time for the macho man sports I say. Should be a hoot!

" "Blades of Glory" may well be the first figure-skating movie to which guys are going to have to drag their girlfriends rather than the other way around. Strap on your skates and join us as we take a twirl around this oft-goopy subgenre.

In the history of figure skating, there's only been one athlete who parlayed it into major Hollywood fame. Norwegian figure skater Sonja Henie was a 19-time Olympic/ World/ European skating champion when she began starring in movies with 1936's "One in a Million." "

" "Ice Princess" is as much an ode to math as to the sport of skating. "
Not a horrible article.

One thing that I have noticed in the previews that I DO like about this movie already -- I see that when they're actually in competition, the lights are actually on in the arena and they're NOT skating in spotlights. It has been a long-standing pet peeve of mine in movies about skating that they're competing at Worlds or Nats or Olympics and they're out they're skating in SPOTLIGHTS. Yeah, it may look good cinematically, but NO, NO, NO!! Totally inaccurate!! Seems ironic to me that what is probably the most outlandish skating movie EVER seems to have at least gotten THAT right......

I have a feeling only 4 skaters and maybe the "agents" are going to be "goofy rockstar" types and the rest will be "normal."

Due to this being about pros and can only veguely remeber pro comps with lights it is nice the brought this "lighting" aspect out.

I think the tricks done with "wires" are going to be funny. The one dismount from a lift I saw was like a 20 foot throw and a back flip, that is funny.

Look At It This Way.....

Look at it this way, because Ferrell and Heder aren't going to be able to skate their way out of a paper bag, it may make people appreciate the real skaters even more. Let's face it, what they do is amazing and accomplished with exceptionally hard work and loads of talent.

I saw the movie last night. It is not about pro-comps. It was the funniest movie I have seen in ages.

yeah I didn't see anything pro skating wise in the previews... there were olympic rings in a few shots... and they are banned from olympic eligible skaters as SINGLES not in PAIRS which is what Jon Heder's character says in every one of the trailors (not the teasers lol)

They weren't the "Olympic rings", it was a symbol made up to like them.

In the movie the pair "signed-up" for nationals and then went on to something like "Winter Sports Festival".

yeah I didn't see anything pro skating wise in the previews...

Prop use? Summer salts or a cartwheel? Back flip dismount? And I swear there was at least one trailer that used the term "pro..."????? I don't doubt - too much - that it is not, but those 4 things alone are what lead me to think it was about pro. So if you saw it and it wasn't I'll believe, but if the previews didn't lead anyone to believe it was pros I have to wonder.

And I have to add...
Skaters Exhibition routines often depict or even "spoof" Movies - i.e. 007, Cat woman.....
So if skating can spoof movies, then why can't movies spoof skating? Wouldn't that be Hypocritical?
- btw that is a rhetorical question.

Question

Anyone who has seen the movie, did they use music with lyrics for the routines?

Yes, they did use lyrics, but this movie is NOT meant to be realistic.

In the movie, the two men tie for the gold medal at the "Olympics" (called something like Wintersports), have a fight, get banned from eligible skating and then 3 and a half years later make a come-back at "Nationals" as the first male/male pair team.

I would say the overall theme of the movie is "the odd couple learning how to make things work despite their differences".

 Yah, I gathered as much:agree: I think everyone knowing FS is - well I hope.;)

So being "am or pro" is moot anyway - I gathered that.;) Just curious if my belief that it was BASED ON the pro circuit had any validity. Apparently there are more then 4 reasons for people who know FS to believe / under the impression it is a take-off on pro if anything ;) really close to FS at all. Since it isn't designating or using the rules of the Amateur class (violations in fact), I would still be under the belief that it is more closely related to pro competitions. AAMOF Has to be closer to pro whether it cared about rules or not the circumstance dictate that class regardless unless it defined the class - which it sounds like they didn't.

Thank goodness I am not losing it.

That sounds kind of nice acutely.

Thanks:yes:

they're still skating as amatuers... not as pro skaters... whether or not the film itself follows teh ISU rules doesn't apply... it's obvious they're not going for authentic...

its like "Ice Princess" her 'competition' had theatrical lighting and yet it was clear she was skating hoping to go to the US Nationals and 'one day the olympics'... they weren't going for 100% authentic skating rules...

but then, I'm not one of those that "knows skating" :rolleye: and am content with that...

I don't get the 'pro' vibe at all from teh trailors alone... and I've unfortunately had to sit thorugh way too many while watching other shows lol... I get a sad, pathetic, typical Will Ferrel movie... lol

What? How can you designate that? How can you designate either really? Outside of the Olys looking logo what else from the trailer would give that impression. I was sticking up for my thought that it was "pro related looking" and why - and why? Because a comment of
yeah I didn't see anything pro skating wise in the previews...
So I thought WHAT? hats, flips, fire balls, etc.. didn't give people who know some of the distinguishing features of Pro and Am the feeling it was pro.??? Some wannabe olympic rings - which all comps have a logo and some meant to make a connection to the Olys to convey the importance of the event. That made me think even more that it was pro, for they were trying to carry over the Olys spirt into the pro comps.

And I was saying "knows FS" as being a majority of GS OPPOSED to the general public. I see your point too - but I think from the Olympic LOOKING logo, and I get the pro notion from the fact he is skating with a hat on solo and fire ball shoot out of his hands.....

Anyhoo, it is not either anyway so .... Just how one can say it is NOT either in particular sounds more like an opinion - just like mine - for how can it not be if it it is neither anyway?

Rewind, my comments were that the comps were BASED ON or MORE RELATED TO pro. Not saying it was either for it is not either. I think the "competition, qualifying, etc.." is likely based on Sr. Am, but I wouldn't have got that until I saw the movie for pros "used to" compete like that. Just the lights were usually all "spot light" in the pro comps I remember - few and far between.

I will be here until Toni comes and kicks my butt all over the rink. *Sean cowering in the corner* - with a shield on pro ice for they wouldn't let me on the ice with a shield in the Amateurs, called it a prop or something.LOL

Just trying to have fun with this everyone, I really like Toni, she is USALLY the right one.;)
