2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Cup of St. P., top 5 after the SP:

1. Tuktamysheva 80.60
2. Sakhanovich 67.33
3. Nugymanova 66.87
4. Gulyakova 66.22
5. Gubanova 65.63
 
Liza's SP looks so much better with the original music! I hope she keeps it like this, the choreography makes so much more sense now!

Does anyone know what music Gubanova was skating to? The audio cut out when she started skating.

Yes, and she was thoroughly trashed in the chat. People really aren't forgiving her.

Is her dress still with the seamstress, since it appears she competed in training gear? It's probably difficult to commission a new dress for $$$$ (4 figure sum) when you are just re-starting your career and not quite in shape yet.
Underlying skating skills were clearly evident in her first outing of the season, but competitive shape has not yet been achieved. IMO
 
There are only a few points separating 2-5. I've not seen any of the performances, so not commenting on those, but really, if they are trashing her for the placement only, then it seems rather unreasonable.

Just to put this out here-In an interview, they asked Alysa Liu what is the most difficult part of figure skating/competing etc., and she said " not being able to eat what I want to. Being hungry all the time". (I'm paraphrasing). It is what it is in this sport. For many, it IS endless dieting. No different from ballet or gymnastics.

Yes, the program is a lot better with the original music. I hope she keeps it. Also she needs to fix her flip edge because I don't think international panels will be so lenient and it is a combination that can give her very important points in SP.

her flip is inside edge, she didnt go very deep like her lutz outside edge but its pretty much the correct technique. She didnt get call on flip for few season now and i think she wont get any soon too
 
Oh yes, Liza's SP is so much better with the original song. I hope she keeps it this way.

I think this season all Russian ladies have great short programs. Alina's new short program is already very close to being one of my favourite programs of all time, Alena's Angel already is, and I really like Sasha's Peer Gynt. Liza's with the original song looks much better now, and Zhenya's SP is gorgeous even though I'm not a fan of the body suit. Anna is probably the only exception just because I prefer her LP to SP ;) (Her SP is good as well!)

Russian coaches can be brutal. Maybe he comes from the Buyanova school of tact. ;)

Anna always a very respectable fifth at Junior Nationals last season and ate at senior Nationals last season. She was on the rise then she got hurt. Terrible.

Kind of disappointed for Nastya. But she hasn't skated since like February. Two through five are bunched up. Liza is way ahead as expected. She can do real battle with 4A.

The hopeful part of me expected more from Gubanova but the realistic part of me did not. I just wish she kept her short program from last year because she would have been able to perfect it this season. Hopefully she will be better in her next event which I assume will be the Russian cup stage deux.

It was called (!) in this particular one and I think it was a message like, be careful with it. It just will be pity if she looses GOEs from this kind of stuff.

Nastya looked gorgeous and I can't wait to see it with the music. Probably some under-rotations, but at least she landed everything. That step sequence looked great and I like the song. I remain optimistic for her. Well kind of. She's fifth place for now, but only a couple points out of silver. And the girls above her are no easy rivals.

And as like everyone else, I prefer this music for Liza. I can see some actual choreography in there. Its so much better.
