Senior Ladies Need To Up The Age Requirement

I've always been a SS fanatic, so nothing new there lol!

Why don't you ask the jump people that open multiple threads a day here why they do it? Because there aren't that many SS ones, that's for sure.

I hope you enjoy your popcorn. :coffee:
Oh, I won’t be so sure. There are so many SS only supporters, especially on twitter. There are some nasty comments on Trusova and quadsters in general (girls, I mean). It became a top argument there, Eteri girls don’t skate and so on..SS, or at least that’s what people try to evaluate here (and there) and use it against a new crop of Russian skaters (Kosto aside). Sometimes I think that SS for some people means just pretty princessy skating:confused: as they repeatedly try to undermine Sasha and her progress, making it sound as if her SS are atrocious

Well then maybe go have that debate on twitter. This is not twitter.

I wouldn't call Jason Brown, Nathan Chen, and former competitive skaters like Abbott, and Chan "princessy skaters" Nor would I say the same of Osmond.

These 'Eteri girls' are going to win many medals, quite possibly almost all of them for the coming season, and with things going OK in Khrustalniy, for years to come. Join, adapt or be left behind, as with any progressive movement.

Haha, way to put new meanings to my writing. I put in parenthesis even that I speak on ladies part. Second, I appreciate your advice but will stay where I am and write wherever I want to. :) But the more sources people use, typically the better, so mentioning twitter doesn’t mean I prefer it:shrug: And to end this, it doesn’t matter where people discuss this aspect. Usually I got this sense as these fans don’t understand much

Now that you've quoted me 3 times of the same thing LOL!

I wasn't putting new meaning to anything, just giving you examples. And I used Osmond, and I could have kept going with some ladies skaters: Sakamoto, Kihira, Medvedeva, and many others.

Yuka Sato in the 90's.

Feel free to talk wherever you want. My point about twitter, which you brought into the convo was that those people you have this issue with are mostly there, and it's not my problem if they don't understand, but you don't argue with them here if they are THERE.

And I'm a fan of my sport, but more athlete that's been there done that, so IDK that I apply to you and your issues with "fans."

The amazing Simone Biles is no longer young, but remains tiny at 4 ft 8 inches, 3 to 6 inches shorter than most competitors.

She is short, but not particularly thin, or prepubescent looking, which is what I meant by tiny.

And I still believe some of today's very young quadsters will figure out how to do quads in their adult bodies...I would not be surprised if Trusova is the one that does the trick.

Some, of course, won't.

Of course, it’s a good point. Golden skate is much better and tolerable, but still there are quite nasty people here as well, and I don’t feel need and desire to quote mean comments taken from here, lol. Don’t doubt, I read much more than write.

I would never use another social media “opinion” for an argument on Goldenskate. I just skip those parts of those posts that do, it’s like the mythical “some people”, a unicorn that doesn’t exist.

Kinda like “I showed all my friends vids of Skater X and they think she’s the greatest ever to lace on skates” . Well, I showed all my friends vids of Skater Y and they think she’s the greatest ever to grace the ice. :) Cites to social media without links are like that; unprovable:scratch2:

But I am not going to argue on GS about what people on Twitter say  I am here on Goldenskate to engage other GS posters. Let them sign up and talk to me here

Well, it's great to be back!

I think there are two issues here.
#1-As far as I know (and correct me if I'm wrong) a post-pubescent woman has yet to land a quad. Is it possible? And if not, unless they eliminate the age requirement altogether and let children compete, the most prestigious medal will not be the Olympic Gold Medal but the Junior Worlds. The senior levels will be like the college gymnastics championship, enjoyable, but not where the real skills are being shown. When a high school graduate who weighs 100 lb. and has some breasts/hips, etc. lands a quad, we can put that to rest.

#2-Longevity of the skaters careers. Again, this will be answered next year or so. Will it be a different Russian girl each year doing a quad, then never to be seen again, as they succumb to growth spurts and injuries? Hopefully not, as a star or two will emerge who lasts several years, like Evgenia eventually did.

However, if that doesn't happen, it says a lot about the state of the sport, and what countries can and cannot medal. I'll leave it at that.

Okay, me agrees:) At times I like drama, I guess. And as they say, negativity faster gets our attention - and I do pay more attention to info about interesting to me skaters

For gender neutrality, an age rise of quad ban will have to be applied to both genders in all disciplines.

Except it really isn't progression. Its more accurately described as aberrant deviation.

The PCS bump is not just a quad one.
Look at Medvedeva and Zagitova, their PCS rapidly climbed with no quads at all. Zagitova especially, she started her Olympic season behind Medvedeva in PCS and by the Olympics was almost at the same level.

Aberrant deviation:

noun. the act of departing from the right, normal, or usual course. the act of deviating from the ordinary, usual, or normal type. deviation from truth or moral rectitude. mental irregularity or disorder, especially of a minor or temporary nature; lapse from a sound mental state.

That's not very nice, you might not like the direction ladies skating is going but that it is waaaayy over the top.

Aberrant deviation is pejorative unhelpful rhetoric.

I don't think it is helpful or useful to hold Anna or Alexandra back from doing Quads. They can do them and land them. They should be rewarded for that. PCS should reflect accurately their abilities in those areas. They are competent in those areas. They are not at the top of the field but they are not bad either. High 7s to mid 8s is probably fair IMO. I'd give Alexandra higher PCS than Anna.

The truth is, many people, including people in the figure skating world never tried to understand what SS are defined by ISU and what judges are looking for while evaluating skating skills in one skaters program. They are looking at Michele Kwan or Yuna Kim programmes and think - that is how everyone need to skate to have good marks for SS. Which is complitely wrong. The truth is - You can demonstrate good SS in many different ways, and they can all look different. But SS are certanly not being esteticaly pleasing while doing a cross overs. I'm amazed how many people believe that is what SS are :noshake:

and most people felt Alina's PCS marks were too high. She is a very good skater but her PCS marks got a bit crazy. Was she the deserving Olympic Champion? Yes she was. Was her PCS marks overblown? Yes they were.

Elisabet Tursynbaeva, aged 18, landed a quad Salchow at Worlds last season, becoming the first female Senior skater to land a ratified quad jump in competition. She's very small, light and fine-framed, but she is definitely post-puberty.
