Alena Kostornaia

What did she said after she saw her score?
She looked disappointed.
I cant blame her. She deserved 80 plus. three ladies of the 4A conglomerate get scored generously all the time. it will obviously be more of a struggle for Alena who is being pinched by the judges the way the other three are not. Yet Alena is quite decisively the most artistic musical and beautiful skater of all the top ladies. her PCS makes no sense.

But well done to Alyiona on her first short program at a senior Grand Prix.

good judging at the end of the day!

in the sense that the placement is fair, but they really underscored everyone

I wouldn't say it's good judging, really. I mean, yeah Aliona ended ahead but the scoring across competitions really needs to be normalized. If we see this competition alone, well sure it may seem harsh but fair in the order everyone is, but if we compare scores across competitions... well I can't give specifics because of the competition rules but we all know that Aliona is the most artistic and has some of the best skating skills. To compare her scores with those handed out at other events, it seems like a slap in the face.

I can't decide whether it was just a conservative panel or whether we're just too used to overscoring across the board.

well deserved 1st place! Congrats, Alëna!
she was a bit nervous but that skate was lit!
I don't understand how and why they lowballed her in PCS (almost 4 pts. below Alina??). :disagree:

I wish she lands all her jumps and skates that way she wants to tomorrow. even though her FS is not my fav, she kills it.

I really dont want to compare Alena to another skaters but Med got 34 PCS with 2 falls, im sorry, im just angry.

as much as i love Zhenya, you are 100% correct. Alena's scoring is disgusting. i don't want to bring other skaters into it either, but putting her 3.5 points behind Alina in PCS is just...i don't even have words. some judges gave her sevens. i'm so sad for her...she had a terrible practice yesterday and THREW DOWN today and this is what they give her?

I usually don't appreciate people who comment on the judges rather than the performance of athletes but this is a shame.
I can agree with the technical panel only on the flat edge of the lutz. All the rest is ... well, a black page.

Poor Maria finished last. It seems to me that she wanted to attempt the combination in the second half? Or just missed it on the Loop?

Anyway, I actually think it was a lovely performance interpretation wise. And I just love her music selection.
Probably her last GP in her careeer though, sadly. So I hope she will just let go and enjoy the Free.

EDIT: Oh sorry this was clearly the wrong thread LMAO.

Well Alina is an OGM and the reigning WC, so she's gonna get the PCS that goes along with it. Aliona is a first year senior, her PCS will rise accordingly. I really wish Eteri had come to France, would love to see her reactions in the KnC.

Hello Alena Kostornaia fans!

Skaters may not be compared with other skaters or results in comparison with other skaters discussed in "The Edge" during an ongoing competition.

"Q: What does Competition Talk entail?
A: Competition Talk is the discussion of scores, GOEs, levels, comparing skaters, starting orders, and pointing out certain elements or analyzing performances in detail."

Skaters' performance during an ongoing competition may be discussed in Fan Fest as long as:

"it is in their respective thread
you are not comparing the skater with others skaters
you don't bring up or mention other skaters
you don't post starting orders or other event information which includes other skaters."

Thank you for following these guidelines.

I know she “won,” but wow that was just disgusting. The judges can go jump off a cliff like the blind lemmings they are.

I'm not saying this is what should happen, but do skaters have the ability to protest calls? I guess it doesn't really matter since everyone was marked harshly and Alyona is still in the lead, but I think the UR call and the edge call were both crazy strict. I don't dispute that she should have gotten negative GOE on the 3A or that her lutz edge is sometimes flat, but yikes.

What a crazy day, am I right?! :drama:

I went from being thrilled that Aliona had a good practice, to practically ill from nervousness as the SP began, to :hap57: that Aliona pulled off a clean program with a monster 3A, to  at the scores, and then finally  What a bizarre event!

For the life of me, I cannot understand where the UR call on the 3A came from. Yes, the solo one at Finlandia definitely looked UR on the replay, but I just do not see it at all here.

The height that Aliona got was just insane--in the first gif you can see her knees above the boards!
In fact, I think that was actually why she had trouble with the landing--it had TOO much height and she couldn't control the landing.

Unfortunately, if she does have a really swingy landing like that (and that seems to happen a lot), the tech panel is definitely going to take a close look.

I wish that Aliona wouldn't do her 3As so close to the corners. She inevitably has to swing herself around (curve sharply) on the landing to avoid running into the boards, but I feel like that makes it look like she's underrotating rather than riding out a fully-rotated jump on a tight curve.

As for the lutz, to me it did look like her blade rolled a bit inward during the take-off on the replay, so I can understand the ! call.

As for the rest of the program--compared to Finlandia, it was clear that Aliona was very nervous at the beginning. To me, she was tight/clearly focusing on the jumps instead of the performance (compared to how amazing she can be) until she got past the lutz, and then it was simply marvelous, sublime skating! That 3F+3T!! The step sequence also looked better here and she was selling it!!

I agree with everyone that Aliona's PCS should've been higher, but her program overall was not as perfect and effortless as at Finlandia, and skating in the 1st group probably didn't help her. It will be interesting to see what the PCS look like tomorrow when she and Alina skate back-to-back.

If Aliona is pissed about the scores, I actually think that's a GOOD thing. I think if she's mad, she won't be nervous at all; she'll just SLAY SLAY SLAY that program and the judges will have no choice but to reward her!! :cheer2:

I've done that too I think a few times especially with Alina and Alena. ;)

3A was so big, didn't seem to be UR...
Maybe she could do a 4A someday. ;) I am sorry Alyiona got the lower than deserved score in their first senior Grand Prix. I hope she's good to go for the free skate.

I would love to say some kind of video replay afterwards when the judges make blatant mistakes and have that corrected in the scores even if it's 5 hours after the competition. Obviously that would work in the short program but not the free skate.
