Trying to catch up with all the press:
Figure skater Samodurova shocked by low ratings for performance at the Grand Prix in Sapporo
The athlete and her coach do not understand the judges' marks for the free program
SAPPORO / Japan /, November 23. / Corr. TASS Veronika Sovyetova. Russian figure skater Sof'ya Samodurova is shocked at the low score for performing in the free program at the Grand Prix stage in Sapporo, Japan. The athlete told reporters after the percance.
The athlete received 119.42 points, in the sum of two programs - 183.27.
“Of course, I would argue over the score. But from this stage I came to the conclusion that you have to endure pain and fight, and this is my new experience and my new knowledge. I am satisfied with my skating run, and my coach is satisfied, but we simply don’t understand the judges, Alexey Nikolayevich [Mishin] is in shock", Samodurova emphasised.
The athlete said that she was pissed off by reactions to a message about sinusitis postponed from before the Grand Prix stage, about which Samodurova told TASS on Friday after a short program: “I had pain through today, but now I don’t want to talk about it. After I told about their sinusitis, many began to write: “why do athletes talk about their illnesses only after unsuccessful skating runs?” This hurt me, so I won’t tell no more about being ill.”
When asked by TASS why the athlete was studying publications before her performances, Samodurova replied: “This doesn’t bother me at all, I don’t pay attention to it. I just concluded that I wouldn’t talk about my health anymore. I was even motivated and angry by this attitude.”
Samodurova is the champion of Europe (2019) and the bronze medalist of the team world championship (2019).

Mishin: it is difficult for skaters without quadruples and triple axles to remain competitive
The trainer believes that even flawless and highly artistic skating without these elements does not allow you to be ahead
MOSCOW, November 23. / Corr. TASS Vladislav Zhukov. For figure skaters, in whose arsenal there are no jumps with four turns or triple axels, it will be difficult to maintain a leading position in the world. This opinion was shared with TASS by the Russian coach Alexey Mishin.
Currently, three skaters in the world are jumping quadruples - the Russians Aleksandra Trusova and Anna Shcherbakova, as well as Elisabet Tursynbayeva from Kazakhstan. Triple Axel's are done by Mishin's ward, Russian Yelizaveta Tuktamysheva, Japanese Rika Kihira, South Korean Yu Young and another Russian Alyona Kostornaya.
"I think that now, if we talk about Lisa [Tuktamysheva] and those strongest athletes who competed here [at the Grand Prix in Japan], then probably those who have a quadruple jump or at least a triple "Axel," have a clear outlook" said Mishin. “Because even flawless and highly artistic skating without these elements does not allow you to be ahead."
Mishin also summed up the performance of Tuktamysheva at the stages of the Grand Prix this season. The figure skater took third place at the stages in Las Vegas and Chongqing, China, and could not make it to the finals. Tuktamysheva's performances at both stages were accompanied by mixed judgments.
"Speaking of what happened in China, I must say that Lisa is distinguished by impeccable jump exits, while some of her rivals throughout their career wear a label of dubious under rotations," said Mishin. “But, of course, we all understand that it’s difficult to get into the finals by messing up in your short program twice. On the whole, our girls (Tuktamysheva and other ward of Mishin, Sof'ya Samodurova) have done great."

Mishin praised the performance of figure skater Samodurova in the current season of the Grand Prix
The Russian figure skater became fifth at the stage in China and the sixth at the stage in Japan
MOSCOW, November 23. / Corr. TASS Vladislav Zhukov.
Coach of the European champion of the Russian figure skater Sofia Samodurova Alexey Mishin regards the result of the performance of his ward at the stages of the Grand Prix this season as positive. This was reported by TASS.
17-year-old Samodurova took part in the stages in China (fifth place) and Japan (sixth). These results did not allow her to qualify for the final of the series.
“By the way this season began, and also taking into account the dynamics of growing up, I positively assess Sonya’s performances at both stages,” Mishin said. “Here, at the stage in Japan, she did not have a single error, however, I believe that the biased assessment of “fully rotated - under rotated” deprived her of a real fourth place. The strictness of the judging of her jumps could be explained by the fact that the native walls were supposed to help Japanese women, who, in the opinion of many experts, were not quite rightly put above her. To go by cleanness of execution, she is just unique, and from the point of emotion and charisma - clear "five's".
This season was the second for Samodurova at senior level. Last season, she won Silver and Bronze at the stages of the Grand Prix and made it to the final of the series, where she became fifth. At the 2019 European Championships in Minsk, she won Gold, beating Olympic champion Alina Zagitova.
