2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

I wonder if Stanislava had been in the podium too at Euros, she would have been kept on the World Team. I believe she would have been...I can't really think of any reason why not if she had delivered there.

I'm pretty sure it will be the top 3 seniors that go to Euros. That 3rd spot decided by the council always go for the 3rd qualifier unless there is a more competent skater not present, like in 2018 when they sent Zhenya.

They could have sent Zhenya to Euros last year if they wanted to, she was only one place behind Samodurova, but the council did what they always do, they went for the top 3.

If the 3A all end up on the podium do you think they will all be sent or not?

Where did Sofia place in Nationals last year? 5th?

It should be a great Nationals. But so draining all these ladies. To some skaters finishing off the podium would be an absolute disaster While others just making the top 10 would be an incredible achievement.

Too bad they can't send 3A, Zhenya and Liza all together to these competitions! I agree with you but darn well should have happened at gpf.

Every one of them deserve it in one way or another.

I don't think she would have been chosen even if she eeked out a bronze medal.

Let's be honest. Liza and Zhenya will not go to the Olympics.
Liza is too old, Zhenya lacks qualifications.

3A should gain as much credibility as possible in these 2 coming seasons.
They, the second coming of the goddess Alina and the next generation of Eteri should bring Russia medals from Beijing. This will be what the population of our country wants. Spit on everyone else.
THE MINISTRY OF SPORTS OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION understands its task. If RusFed inserts sticks into the wheels and tries to show its character, they will be sent to grow tomatoes in their garden.
The jokes are over. Russia needs new beautiful young characters. The whole world should get used to new stars and a permanent first place for Russia. And if the old farts do not understand this, serious guys will correct them.
I am sure that the judges will be super honest at the top of the standings. How will they judge Gubanova and Gulyakova? Few people care about it now. This is where judges can show their greatness. They will be allowed. But no more than that.

For 3A, the main thing now is to be healthy and show at least 80% of your capabilities.
Let's be honest Olympics are still 2 seasons away anything could happen. From injuries to not wanting to skate professionally anymore. Literally anything.

No, they haven't and they won't.
They would have last year if Sofia had not managed to win the euros. If alina had won them , I would bet that the team for the world would have been Liza, alina, zhenya. But since Sofia was the European champion they had to make her part of the worldsteamand we know it.

It would have been horribly unfair to Sofia as European Champion to not go to Worlds.
There were so many things that happened last season to make things very tough in deciding who would be going to Worlds.

I don't think she would have been chosen even if she eeked out a bronze medal.

I'm not sure about that, she seemed to have a surprisingly large amount of RusFed support right up until her poor Euros SP. To the point where many of us fans were scratching our heads at how hard she was being pushed even, though she's a lovely skater when she's on she was always so inconsistent and prone to bombing big competitions.

Tchaikovskaya: “There are no pure records in figure skating”

The chair of the trainers council of the Russian Figure Skating Federation Yelena Tchaikovskaya explained why she doesn't like that world records have appeared in today's figure skating.

“Because we do not have them in their pure form. No centimeters and seconds to the naked eye. Yesterday, one panel of judges sat and rated a program like this, but today a different panel, with the performance comparable to the previous one, the rating is different. Because at the judging desks are people, and their subjective view cannot be taken away.

But, if someone really likes to count records, let this be an occasion for pride. Figure skating now it is a very difficult sport. See what the girls are doing! This is reality. And I am very pleased that for many years in figure skating it was us, Russians, who set the direction. Dictated in dance, in pairs, in men's singles. Now, in women's singles, we have absolutely exactly indicated the direction in which our sport is developing. ”

Fabi is Russia even going to be in the next Winter Olympics as OAR or anything else? I guarantee you behind the scenes other countries are hoping that they get blocked all together. That would be awful but things keep getting worse for Russian Sports they can't clean up their messes. These men running their Sports have run it into the ground.

That is true, but it doesn't and shouldn't take anything away from Sofia as she performed incredibly well, skated clean and earned her gold. RusFed did right by her and she went to Worlds.

Agreed.

I’m curious now...have RusFed taken European podium winners of the ladies event off of the WC team in the past? Why would they even do that?

There was a time period when it was not uncommon for the top Russian/former Soviet athletes to skip Europeans. The battle for the final spot at Worlds or the Olympics would be refought head-to-head with an international panel between the 3rd & 4th Russian athletes at Euros. In 1998, Yagudin, Plushenko, and Abt made the European podium; but of course, Russia sent Kulik to the Olympics. Because he was Russia's best shot at the Olympic podium, and ultimately won Olympic gold. There was never any doubt that the top athletes would go to the major events. But they sometimes did not go to Europeans--probably in part because why set yourself up to have to go against your closest competition again prior to Worlds? Partly because sometimes athletes had injuries or needed recovery time. Possibly because athletes were training in North America at the time and found the journey across the ocean more difficult. And possibly because Russia already knew who was #1 and wanted to know who was really #3.

Ari Zakaryan: “ I want the skaters to perform with all their heart and soul, and the audience would catch their energy. We will immediately understand who is skating badly and who is good. ”

The famous sports agent Ari Zakaryan told which programs he liked most this season, and also shared his opinion on the performances of Yelizaveta Tuktamysheva.

-- Whose program did you really like this season to make you want to review it several times?

- Programs of our two leading dance couples Sinitsina - Katsalapov and Stepanova - Bukin, French Papadakis - Sizeron and Canadians Gilles - Poirier. Kevin Aimoz looks good, the phenomenon of Hanyu is not even discussed, he is like an alien.

Chen is a super talent that is improving every day. And our guys: Samarin flies in the quad Lutz just at incredible speed. Aliyev is very soft and plastic.

And the girls, they are just ... Speaking purely about the programs, then both of Zagitova and Medvyedeva are good this season. Sasha Trusova goes out on the ice, and everyone is waiting: will she jump quadruples or not? And this special feeling in the expectation of yet another record and cosmic achievement. As was the case with Usain Bolt and Michael Phelps. The record is updated, and you think: superhuman!

Kostornaya is an elegant beauty, a skater with the "full package" . Anya Shcherbakova is a smart girl, well-brought up, with her own pivot - after all, she goes for quadruple jumps after a serious injury - a broken leg in 2017, she has the second most difficult program in the world.

I take off my hat in front of Lisa Tuktamysheva, who learned a quad jump at 23 years old.

-- However, it is not proven this jump will help her get into the national team. She wasn't in the Grand Prix Final in Turin.

- You know, I have one super-skater who skates in the show. And he said to me: I want to compete! I was surprised: they say, why, you will travel with the show, you will earn money, otherwise you will train for whole days. To which I received the answer: "And I want to, I get high from competing." I did not argue with him, the man is happy.

As for Yelizaveta, she is the greatest athlete who needs to wait and find out what will happen next.

-- One of her biggest problems is the value of her components ...

- For me this is a dark forest. I am in favour of returning to the classics. When a skater does a nice camel spin - it’s obvious, and when they earn levels fours on difficulty and hide their flaws by all kinds of poses ... A person who can’t do a normal sit spin can beat by level the skater with the coolest spins and so on.

I want the skaters to skate from the heart, get high, dance, move at speed, and the audience would catch their energy. And as soon as this happens, we will immediately understand: who is riding badly and who is good, ”
Zakaryan said.

i wonder what will happen with Liza if she misses the world team again this year, regardless of how she skates. is she committed through 2022? i wonder if missing the team again will stir thoughts of retirement or possibly even a coaching change.

At RusNats last year 13 Ladies scored over 65 points in the short and over 190 total points. Will that be matched this year?

My bet the Russian World Team will be:

Kostornaya
Medvedeva
Tuktamisheva

with other Tutberidze girls reserved.

But Shcherbakova and Trusova may go to EC.

I think the inverse ...Kostornnai, Tuk and Medvedeva to Europeans ... they will win no matter who they send ... and 3A to worlds ... so everyone has a chance to gain points to wolrd ranking .. and everyone happy

Yes, we do not know anything. But we can assume that someone will definitely not be at the Olympic Games in two years. Or maybe on ice.

No you can't ... is someone would told us 3 years ago ..that polina, radionova would withdraw ... or zhenya would change coachs ... or that tuk would learn a 4 ...russia is a too deep field ... with young skaters rising everyday ...

I just saw a yt with Alena Zhilina who is 9 and born in 2010. Is her birthday before July, so she is eligible for 2026?

Why does anyone need this ranking?

How will this help Anna and Sasha to be happy?
