2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

exactly...did anyone think Alina would have been OC back in 2016 when she debuted as a junior, 2 years before? no, everyone had already crowned Zhenya. skating is so unpredictable and so many things can happen in 2 years. predictions this far out are just pointless.

I think all the girls who will be on Russia's 2022 Olympic team are skaters we already know. Alina's case was special because she was a "late bloomer" who didn't qualify for juniors in her first year of eligibility. But given the current field, I think if you didn't make JGP your first year, it's not likely that you'll be a contender. The field is too deep for late bloomers when all the current skaters are increasing their technical arsenal at such an unprecedented rate. And skaters who are only junior eligible next season will not make the age cut off.

So I believe it will be some mixture of the current skaters. I don't think there's going to be someone unknown now who will end up on the team.

I just saw a yt with Alena Zhilina who is 9 and born in 2010. Is her birthday before July, so she is eligible for 2026?

Looks like she is. would be interesting if Veronika and Aliona will go head to head at 2026 :)
I also noticed, that although both were trained by their mother, Veronika managed to get the „textbook“ jumps, and Aliona didn’t.
Just shows that there’s no magical recipe or a coach with supernatural powers, who can teach everyone the same technique.

Anyway, I’m super excited to see Veronika‘s development towards 2026. she’s insanely gifted in all departments.

I think this was already evident with the jumps of Tuktamysheva and Samodurova

Along with Sofia Akatieva!! I’m sad that a skater who right now does 3a3t in the short and two 4toes in a free skate will still be stuck in pre-juniors even NEXT season!!

Oh I definitely agree! It’s probably already too late to create a reputation to even be considered for 2022 OG if you aren’t known by now. Probably why several girls switched countries this and last season. I see a Valieva, Kostornaya, and Usacheva team. Who knows what will happen though with injuries. TUK might just persevere if she’s the last woman standing.

Liza and Medvedeva will help their cause

Could help them acquire World Standings points, but Liza & Med are in absolutely no danger of falling off the SB top 24 list with regards to GP qualification and I don't know that going to Europeans would sincerely do much to improve anyone's reputation (unless it was done by defeating the higher ranked Russian athletes) since basically all of the competitive ladies outside of Russia are from 4CC countries (maybe Kurakova could make an argument for herself at this year's Worlds). Anyway, acquiring World Standings points is always a wise course of action for the long haul. And a title or major international medal can certainly be motivating. I'm not knocking either. It just wouldn't--technically speaking--change anything for Liza & Med with regard to qualifying for things next season.

I just read the same thing. We’ll see how she is in practice. I’m putting it 50/50.

She's probably the one skater who could get away with missing Nationals and still getting assigned to Euros/Worlds. Liza didn't as the third best skater in the world going into Nationals last year, but Alena is undefeated.

What would be unfortunate, but very possible, is if Liza finishes third and gets bumped for a skater who couldn't participate.

If Aliona isn’t at nationals I think she’ll be passed over for Euros, but be requires at Russian Cup finals and then replace someone for worlds.

If she's healthy, I think she'd still be sent to Euros. Liza lost too much training time to be ready for Euros and wasn't that great at the Dragon Trophy which happened after Euros.

i’ve heard rumors that alena kostornaia is injured and might withdraw from nationals. is this true?

And the source that is given for these rumors is this very forum, Goldenskate!!

TO REVIEW, here is what we know:
1) After the GPF, Italian commentator Max Ambesi mentioned that Aliona has "an issue" with her tibia, but then said it isn't an injury:

Read the thread.

2) Aliona was seen in the recent dance video, seemingly fine.

3) Aliona was seen in the recent video with Alina on Japanese TV:
https://youtu.be/RD6U4sdmOqY?t=190

While it is *possible* that something has happened between the time these videos was filmed and now, I would suggest we WAIT for some DEFINITIVE INFO and not rely on rumors... And anyway, we should see the skaters gathering in Krasnoyarsk soon enough.

No it doesn't depend only on the RuNat podium except the winner. And who says they will all end up on the podium?

Given what we've seen this season from all the competitors - only Medvedeva can compete close with Shcherbakova/Kostornaia on PCS and beat Trusova but she can't compete on a technical level, and only Tuktamysheva can compete on a technical level but she can't compete on a PCS level. But Tuktamysheva it depends on if she does the quad, let's not forget she has competed with the 3 triple axels and lost 3 times already to Shcherbakova who people consider the 'weak link' of Kostornaia/Shcherbakova/Trusova trio; and it depends what she does in addition to the quad - Mishin doesn't play the point game like Eteri and while it will be impressive for her to add the quad her remaining jumping elements probably don't rack up the points that Shcherbakova or Trusova can get.

Taking into account what Kostornaia/Shcherbakova/Trusova have done this season...**in my opinion** they should be the only 3 skaters that should get considered for Europeans/Worlds if they happen to finish off the podium at Nationals.

Veronika is a little imp and may have some diva in her. She was asked on video a while back who is her favorite skater and she said herself. ;) Hopefully everything goes well at her career. She's doing so much at such a young age it's just hard to believe.
Is she really injured? Any confirmation? These rumours make me so anxious.

No.

No.

Yes, but outdated.

There is an old (4/19) article about her career-threatining trauma happenned long ago. The tibial crack resulted in a fracture.

Aliona Kostornaya is listed as a RusNats participant and nothing new published.

Vasilii Konov, who first reported it is a Football reporter, but looks to be reliable.

But knowing Eteri, Aliona isn't going to miss Nationals.
