-- In what mood is Yelizaveta Tuktamysheva going to the Russian Championship, not able to get into the Grand Prix Final?
- Combat, this is Lisa’s usual mood. She is used to fighting, constantly proving that she is skating not only on old baggage, but is also ready to progress. As proof - Lisa learned and jumps a quad. Her hands don't go idle and she does not think that all the places in the top three are already taken. Otherwise, it would be very difficult to motivate yourself to do hard work every day. Lisa is an optimist by nature. This allows her to continue to skate.
-- Instead of the Grand Prix Final, Yelizaveta performed at a tournament in Zagreb. There was a victory there, but with the total score, even the largest for her, not just in the season, but generally in her career (221.15), in Turin your ward would still be only fourth.
- Trusova won with two falls - she has a phenomenal number of quadruple jumps. Shcherbakova also has two quadruple jumps. If Lisa “flunks” the quadruple, then ... The Russian Championship is sometimes a more exciting start than the stages of the Grand Prix. Here everyone meets, one must fall into the top three in order to be in the national team for major tournaments. I think Lisa and Alexey Nikolayevich will still include a quadruple jump.
-- Many were waiting for it from Yelizaveta back in Croatia. Why didn’t you decide there?
- It needs to be stabilised. Because it is not easy - just jump a quadruple jumped and that’s it. After it immediately comes the complication of other elements. But Lisa then needs to do two more triple Axels. After the quad, many aspects of the program change, because the same triple Axels are already executed later, and this requires more time to prepare. We had and took this time after Zagreb. Everything is not so easy and simple, but Lisa will try.
-- How realistic is it to see a cascade of quadruple Toeloop-triple Toeloop?
- It's real. But one must think where it is more profitable to put a triple jump. This is not an end in itself - to jump a quadruple with a triple. If there is a triple Toeloop in the cascade, then they try to put it in the second half of the program to get a bonus. It may be more profitable to jump four - two or even save a triple Toeloop for the second part of the program. A lot of nuances.
-- That is, a decision on the elements in the program can be made almost on the last day?
- I think that everything will depend on the specific state of Lisa directly in Krasnoyarsk. She has trained for a week with Alexey Nikolayevich in Novogorsk.
Zagitova should have finished on a brighter note
-- At the same time, Yelizaveta now has one dangerous rival less. Were you shocked by Alina Zagitova’s decision to take a break from the competition, or were you expecting something like that after her failure in the Grand Prix Final?
- No, I did not expect this. I thought that Alina will perform at the Russian Championship, show her best skating. If at the same time she would still be fourth or fifth, then in this situation a pause would be logical. Apparently Alina was psychologically broken after an unsuccessful skating run in the Grand Prix Final. I think that it was worth it to wait a bit, finish on a brighter note.
-- There are rumors that Alena Kostornaya may not perform in Krasnoyarsk. Have you heard anything about this?
- No. But I never wish rivals injuries or illnesses. I just want my athlete to perform well, to show the maximum. If this happens, then even narrowing is easier to tolerate. The main thing is to do your job well by yourself. I treat these girls [the wards of Eteri Tutberidze] well. They can only be admired. It’s even hard to imagine how they learn this, how they do it in their programs ... And some still manage to judge them, say that it is bad or not necessary. It’s even funny to talk like that. Let's see what will happen in Krasnoyarsk. It does not matter whether Kostornaya will participate or not, because Lisa has a specific task. Sometimes the more difficult the greater mobilisation takes place.
-- What about the mobilisation of Sofia Samodurova, who became fourth at the already mentioned tournament in Zagreb?
- She is set to the maximum, she wants to fight, but she will not show any complicated things in Krasnoyarsk. She will assemble her own, do as she can, now she is in top shape lately.
-- But she will not have complications of programs?
- She learns a triple axel, but did not finish it (smiles). Active attempts were made, but so far there are no clean departures, no full completion. But one can note her attitude and desire to learn this jump.
-- What can you say about Anastasiya Gulyakova?
- Nastya must have fighting spirit. She did not get to the Russian Championship, she let herself down, unsuccessfully competing at the last stage of the Russian Cup. But now she will nevertheless perform in Krasnoyarsk, so there should be a desire to go up. Nastya clearly should be on the rise, because all the selections are held with one goal - to qualify for the Russian Championship. At the last start, the championship of Sankt Peterburg, she could have perform better, but overall showed herself well. There is stability.

-- What happened to Aleksander Petrov? Why doesn't he compete?
- Well, he wasn’t ready, he wasn’t ... He doesn’t have a quad right now. Skating, but you have nothing to compete with? .. Alexey Nikolayevich checked his readiness during the training camp in Novogorsk and made such a decision.
-- It's not about injuries, but in general form?
- Yes. For the Championship of Russia you need to be ready by much better, over the past time you still have to master the quad jump.
-- What about the knee of Andreyi Lazukin? What to expect from him?
- What to expect ... We hope for him ... He has excellent motivation. This is not to say that he does not train well, but his health does not allow him to count on much. That knee, then colds ... I hope that everything possible will be done to relieve the existing pain. He was leaving Sankt Peterburg without skating in full force, his knee had to be protected. Now in Novogorsk, Andrey has gotten into shape, I hope it’s going well.
-- What are the expectations from the performance of Gleb Lutfullin?
- He will have a quad Salchow and Toeloop, and is learning the Lutz. Jumps should be included as soon as possible so that something underperformed does not affect other elements. Therefore, so far, probably, without Lutz.
-- How realistic is it now to compete with Aleksander Samarin and Dmitriy Aliyev?
- Oh, well, with Aliyev, really (smiles). He can unexpectedly show such skating runs as in the Grand Prix Final (due to a lot of mistakes for only one free program, Aliyev lost by 93 (!!!) points to the victorious Nathan Chen. - “Sport Day after Day”). Most likely, it will not work with Samarin. Sasha is a fighter. Even if he had unsuccessful starts, the programs were still the hardest, with the inclusion of a Lutz, a Flip. Errors are possible. But he always fights. Aliyev’s how it goes. Who knew, after this short program in Turin, that he would succeed further?
-- According to the results of the Russian Championship, the composition of the participants from our country to the European Championship will be formed. What, in your opinion, is a fairer selection filter: only those who took the highest places in the Russian Championship go to the continental championship or should the coaching council of the FFKKR have the last word?
- The Federation must take into account all starts, there is a certain rating, special attention to the Grand Prix finalists. But at the Championship of Russia the sports principle should be taken into account. When it comes to making a decision over the participation of anyone at the European or World Championships, it seems to me that one must still start from personalities. The Russian Championship is held almost a month after the previous start, the shape of the athletes is changing, it is possible that among the winners there will be those who did not look bright before that. The Russian Championship should remain a decisive qualifying start, but if someone showed himself very brightly during the season, was a Grand Prix finalist, then the coaching council should take an individual approach.
-- Although in some countries, athletes are selected for major starts precisely following the results of the national championship.
- Yes, selection is the point. In America, in Japan. It seems that this is true - who is stronger right now, he falls into the national team. But the coaching council can make out the situation, determine why one of the favorites unsuccessfully performed at the Russian Championship.
This season, Yelizaveta Tuktamysheva failed to make it to the Grand Prix Final, having twice become the third in Skate America and the Cup of China and only by additional indicators lost her ticket to Turin to American Brady Tennell. At the Challengers Finlandia Trophy and Lombardia Trophy, the student of Alexey and Tat'yana Mishin became second, and at the Golden Spin in Zagreb - the winner.
In the 2018/19 Russian Championship, Tuktamysheva did not perform due to pneumonia.
