Senior Ladies Need To Up The Age Requirement

For cheaters, maybe. Who cares about achieving that shiny moment of true perfection, or fair play, or merit? If the only thing that matters is a medal, then it doesn't matter what means are used, right?

At least this is the direction where the "sport" is being taken now, again, by the same culprits. Once again, it's all about the flag and the nation's prestige, not about skating.

Sad.

Who exactly was called a cheater by you? Some who won over your "art form" favorites with the last century layout? Who is pushing the sport forward. Those are cheaters for you? Heroes like Trusova? Your comments are beyond disgusting.

Which skaters are "cheaters" then?

The more powerful feds and countries do get favoured, that has always been the case though.
But on the ice itself the skaters still have to perform, still have to be the best to win.

What does it matter what the fans feel? It's the skaters that are competing. I challenge you to find a competitive skater that considers themselves an artist more than an athlete.

More artist vs more athlete is not the way to look at it.
Many figure skaters feel they are both and the athletic and artistic side go hand in hand making this sport unique.

Alyona declared that she likes skating because it's also about elengance and beauty and she can't see herself doing a sport thats is only based on strength

I've always seen figure skating as a sport but one presented well with music and performance very much a part of it.
I like the athletic side more but I wouldn't want to see the performance side disappear completely.
I just consider the artistic side to be icing on the cake.
It is afterall a sport, not performing arts.

It's cool that these girls can do quads and triple axels but what happens when they hit a growth spurt? They walk off with gold medals and haven't put any time into the sport, then disappear, and the girls in their 20s take a backseat. And every couple of years it's a new prodigy but they're not lasting several Olympic cycles like a Michelle Kwan or a Mao Asada. I think the age should be 17.

Okay I give in I will up the age limit to 15.5. That should appease everyone. ;)

Who are cheaters? Powerful feds who play politics and corrupt the sport, and fans who support them. Anything to "win".

And then they turn around and hide behind the skirts of innocent athletes, who are nothing but pawns in their disgusting sociopathic games.

Name anyone who has won recently (the last 2 years for example) who did so unfairly, with blatant "cheating" and "corruption"?

Up the age to 20, it won't matter. With puberty blockers, the "age" will be meaningless.

If the existing rules are not followed or applied selectively, and if the rules make it easy to ignore quality, then playing with age limits will not solve the problem of turning a beautiful piece of art and athleticism into a turd.

I would argue that in absence of fixing the judging, it's better to let children compete and retire early than to force them to ruin their health even more, by starvation and/or drugs, in order to reach a higher age limit. Lesser evil this way. :(

To be banned from the board? To provoke hoards of bots? Nah.

If you look at all the placements in the last 2 years, and don't see any problems whatsoever, and no consistent patterns of abuse, then you're part of the problem.

The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who do nothing about it. (Albert Einstein)

Same can be said about figure skating. It's corrupt not because of evil feds, but because of the people who support gladly, or acquiesce.

On the other hand, if people are happy with it, they deserve it. Whatever. I just think, it's sad when rot corrupts something beautiful, and we end up with less than what could have been.

So you can't answer a simple question?

Voicing your opinion would not get you banned or most of us already would be

Lol

In your opinion did any skater (not naming any names) win unfairly at the expense of another due to corruption?

There's one thing about this age requirement issue that bothers me. I can't help the feeling that it would only make things worse.

We are able to watch FS online, including Juniors. If the strongest competitors won't be able to compete in Seniors, we may end up watching and following Juniors rather than Seniors. Our interest and attention can make those leagues switch places. I'm not sure how would it affect Olimpics but I'm quite sure that Junior's career could become much more prestigious and worthwile than it is now. This won't deter kids and their coaches from excessive training but make them fight for success at '13 y.o. instead of '15. And those who succeed may not even be interested in seniors league any more. :sarcasm:

Bah! I know very well how to answer KGB - with silence. 'Cause anything you say will be twisted to pronounce you "guilty of crimes against the state", anyway. :laugh2:

KGB? I'm not even Russian so wth you on about.

But, 10 points for a creative and national stereotyping dodge of the question.

Yeah, but there're plenty of KGB transplants in Great Britain. I'm just saying. (It's a joke, yo!) Миша minion.

Sorry to dodge your question, but I'm not looking to engage with an army of patriotic bots, because I don't have the entire might of the state behind me.

Suffice it to say, there's a "skating while Russian" bonus, which is the most egregious example of "cheating" (tilting the scales in one's favor) in figure skating today. There are other examples of what should be considered cheating due to undue influence as well, both on international and national level, but the fish rots from the head. There's no point in discussing and fixing others, while the most blatant one shines as a golden Hammer and Sickle on the hill. ;)

Actually the Misha refers to Misha Collins, who plays Castiel in Supernatural...although his family background is Russian it has nothing to do with Russia why I have it.

The Russian girls deserve their victories, but you still can't name a time in the last couple of seasons that even one of them won unfairly?

I'm not a bot, I'm genuinely interested in the reason you are spitting so much venom and which competition results have made you feel that way?

And to curb this, ISU must seriously reduce difficulty requirements, i.e. nothing above easy triples, or only 8 in SP and 11 revolutions per free program allowed or something like that.

And I also do think those concerned about the health of competitors from any other country but their own are hypocrites. Female FS is at an all time high only because of Aleksandra, Alyona, Anna and Alina with the young spectators, the future of figure skating, girls who are inspired (and their parents!) to repeat after them.

Deep cleavages of Tuktamysheva or Gubanova attract a whole different audience that plays no role in fostering the progress and growth of figure skating.

Well, you are posting exclusively about Russian ladies figure skating, so excuse me for doubting your unbiased stance, and having nothing to do with Russia. Johnny Weir doesn't even have any Russian-speaking heritage, and yet he exhibits just as cult-like bias towards Russian skaters as any Brighton Beach native, or whatever equivalent in London. (But not purely out of pure heart in Johnny's case, I'm afraid.)

As a normal person, you should understand my reluctance to attract the bots, right? I have zero interest in becoming a target of an organized bot campaign. Dealing with honest rabid fans (of any sport) can be bad enough, but dealing with politically engaged "fans" is a whole another nightmare...

Which competitions, you ask? All of them where "skating while Russian" bonus was present, and there're too many to mention.

By the way, as I said before - the rot is not just in this one federation. Yes, it's everywhere. But this is usually THE most shameless example of padding the scores, even though there're plenty of others. It is what it is. If you don't see - there's nothing I can say that will convince you.

P.S. Venom? LOL! Just being honest. I have this selfish desire to see the very best performances from the very best skaters - and I believe politics are the death of art and sport alike. JMHO.

This is not a conversation for this board (children are reading), but unfortunately cleavage is not the end all be all for that kind of creepy audience.

Just check out the latest news about a creep getting off scot free in NY, because an adult star he liked only looked severely underage, but was in fact legal. Scary stuff.

I have no national bias, neither do I post exclusively in threads about Russians.

Still, I'll ask you if any Russian won unfairly over a non Russian in the last couple of years or so?

Absolutely. Medals, and placings. And that's all I have to say about that.

Now let me ask you this: do you acknowledge the existence of a "skating while Russian bonus" which sometimes pads the scores, or is it something that you've never ever witnessed?
