I'm just sad because she could have been on the podium, if not for her boot.
If her boot hadn't been broken she would have been a lot higher in the short program, maybe even in third.
And Sasha's total score wasn't that much higher than Zhenya's SB. Could you imagine if Zhenya had beat Sasha for bronze? Would she had gone to Euros and Worlds?

Thinking about the “what-if‘s“ breaks my heart. Literally.

What I do not understand, however, why she so openly announced the end to her season. She wants to train the quad, alright, but there are still plenty of competitions where she could have tried it BEFORE test skates in SEPTEMBER. That‘s an incredibly long time to go without competing. There‘s also the Russian Cup Final and the fact that she might have been EC alternate. Alright, it‘s not Euros and it‘s not Worlds (having to miss Worlds in Canada has to really sting) but there are competitions and if you want to land a completely new element, trying it out in a competition where there‘s less risk would be better, imo. Just my two cents.

I‘m glad she announced her FS music, though. That was a smart move to keep the retirement rumours at bay.

Even if Evgenia or Liza had sneaked into third place because of Sasha's problems I don't think you hold Sasha out of Euros or worlds because of that because her season was too great she won both her Grand Prix events easily and that should not be forgotten. Sasha was also very good at Grand Prix final even though she did not win the gold. The real issue is evgenia did not get a chance to perform her free skate at Russian Nationals where she almost assuredly would have finished in the top five and so disappointing. She must be so empty right now. In disbelief that this boot bit happened to her in Siberia of all places.

Last year, Sofia was chosen over the Coaching Council. This season it will be Trusova.

That was the usual rule, however, RusFed president made it clear in his announcement before RusNats that they changed the criteria for Euros and that only 1-3 will go to Euros.

very true but a lot of this drama was unintended it was accidental it was instantaneous whatever that means. Another words it just happened for whatever reason.

Well I guess Zhenya would have gone to euros if she finished third. But she never had a chance because of her damn skates. Unreal.

Honestly, I doubt Zhenya would have made the podium even if she had skated perfectly in SP and FS. It was clear from the beginning who they wanted. I‘m sad mainly because she could have gotten the first alternate spot pretty easily if she had skated like at Rostelecom or ACI for example.

I'm really sad that we won't see Zhenya competing until September. However she has several shows planned and she can use the time between them to learn new elements. Maybe it's not a bad thing that this happened.

I also wonder if she's going to be the first alternate. Last year Liza didn't participate in RN and she was the first alternate for Euros.

If so this is a lost opportunity she will never be able to recapture. at least Zhenya did not skate in dangerous skates.

I just got back from grocery shopping and this is getting even crazier. I think this should be a lesson to all figure skaters to try to bring a backup pair of skates just in case. Even if it means slightly more difficult travel they should do it thickest what happened to evgenia could have been avoided. And quite frankly should have been avoided.

Sasha fell more than once today. And if I look at her score than yes if zhenya had w clean skates here without any boot issues than she could have been 3place definetely 4
