2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

hmm...not sure how i feel about that choice for her. interesting their other option was Madonna...depending on the song, i think that would have fit her more.

More interesting would be Tuktamysheva's opinion vs the Professor's. One would assume an adult and mature skater like her would have the final say.

"Spartacus" as in the Khachaturian ballet, which Kamila Valiyeva also used not long ago? Or a movie soundtrack?

Agreed, I think she'd do great with a Madonna program. She definitely has the performance ability for it!

the only one i know of is the ballet, and i assume that since its the music everyone else has used.

In other news, it seems that Evgenia Medvedeva has deleted her twitter account and turned off comments on all of her instagram posts. https://twitter.com/jannymedvedeva?lang=en Apparently people were hating on her for going to Japan or practicing in a rink in Japan after the show was cancelled and while going to Japan in the midst of all of this wasn't the smartest decision, we all make mistakes and some of the things that were being said to her IMO were excessive.

A 20 year old, experienced public figure, making these kind of mistakes?

Serious personal misjudgment?
Parental misguiding? Managerial Ill advising? You name it.
FFKKR obligations vs JPN show obligations, only she herself knows.

Had she stayed quiet nobody would’ve been any the wiser and perhaps understood her position and admired her resourcefulness. But going public and affronting concerned citizens from the very nation that is being hospitable is very foolish, esp in Japan under the current situation.

How to defuse the situation? A public apology seems the least she can do.
Throwing a tantrum on social media is not IMO because the Internet never forgets, even deleted tweets will get re-published.

These antics might have serious repercussions on her reputation and future chances, and not only in Japan. IOC/2021OG LOC and Russia might take offense too, since there apparently were complaints made to the embassy.
For all practical purpose, there are no flights, both Japan's and Russia's healthcare are under great strain.
Can she expect leniency from the authorities this time round? Making her a scapegoat is all too easy now there is one more bone to pick.

She essentially seems stuck in a foreign country. Not an easy thought, even when you’re otherwise comfortable.

Wish her wisdom, support and a good ending.

There's also a movie soundtrack I think, although I've never heard of someone skating to that. I love the Spartacus ballet music but I don't know if I can see Liza skating to it. I guess we'll just have to find out? I hope there are more music announcements soon, thats the only interesting thing that could really happen right now.

LOL, with #TeamMishin it is always a surprise how things turn out. Two Italian choreographers were involved?
Putting the finishing touches will perhaps pose a problem with Lombardia region being hit so hard by the pandemic.

I have to say, I'm very interested to see how the choreography turns out. Anna Cappellini & Luca Lanotte were a great ice dance team, but I'm not sure how experienced they are as choreographers. AFAIK, I don't think they've ever done choreo for a skater as high-profile as Liza. I could be wrong, though.

We can all hope for as much we want, and hope dies last in these times of hardships :-)

There are a lot of practical obstacles.

Return to Russia for medical checkups and clearance to compete within the insurance policy. All capable medical personnel, including FFKKR, Sambo-70 doctors and nurses are in the coronavirus frontline, nobody knows for how long? Even if they will survive unscathed, they will need serious recuperation from the most stressful months of continuous ICU duty.

Getting back into Russia without flights and compulsory quarantine that will be enforced by law and checks and punishments?

Same for Canada first and then by season’s opening to Russia?

Canada seems to be getting the spread and rise of the pandemic under control, Russia much less so, even though Moscow is better equipped than the regions.
Training camps should start when FFKKR has made the teams pubic, in about 4 weeks from now? Finance depends on which list you end up, sponsor contracts probably too, as will be lucrative endorsements.

Then there must be ice, and a reasonable safe and comfortable training environment and living arrangements for isolated training camps, perhaps lasting the whole season to comply with ISU demands? At least for the Russian children that still live with their parents and siblings. You can probably imagine the worries of any concerned parents having to part from their child for months of complete physical isolation in whatever presumed clean and safe location, Sochi as suggested by TAT is the most popular holiday resort in Russia. Unless locked down, millions of people will want to spend summer holidays on the Black Sea.
The children will cope, they have each other and are working towards their medal chances with their full power of youth and force of motivation.
Training at TCC under the same precautions seems entirely possible? With international athletes coming and going based on their contracts? Even Yevgeniya must feel lonely and sad and in need of comfort from a relative?

Then gathering in Russia for Open Test Skates camp with the final assessments and division over the first GP assignments, other than Challengers, which FFKKR doesn’t pay for.
How many GP events and Challengers will actually remain on the calendar, nobody knows, he/she might be training in vain?

Coming season is going to be very difficult for all involved, and a perceived advantage of sneaked in extra training time might turn out a hindrance?

There are both pro’s and cons in staying close to the home base, wherever that may be.

When can only hope Medvyedeva is serious and not throwing caution in the wind in these kind of seemingly irrational and desperate moves.

Liza Tuktamysheva's new short program will be "Spartacus"

https://m.sports.ru/amp/news/1085219095/?__twitter_impression=true

Let's hope she doesn't change the music this time around

Well it wasn't her but Mishin, and ultimately they picked Drumming Song last season, but the drama was already set, it's almost like people didn't care anymore. I thought that SP was actually one of the better ones Liza has had.

As for Spartacus, if they went with Adagio for Spartacus, something along the lines of Ashley Wagner 2014-15's SP could be a good choice for her.

But going public and affronting concerned citizens from the very nation that is being hospitable is very foolish, esp in Japan under the current situation.

I must say I don't understand. Evgenia (afaik) stays in the prefecture where there are only 26 infected people in total (yes, twenty-six, comparing to over 5 thousands in Moscow and 5.5 thous in Toronto) and people uses parks on a regular basis. In the video she shared there were two group of people playing in the park visible. There are holidays in Japan now and families with children stay in tents in parks. So how on Earth Evgenia affronted anybody?

A tad harsh for sure.

Because Zhenya is super successful at 20 years old doesn't mean she's perfect. This virus just keeps growing around the world and causing all kinds of problems that people are trying to adjust to including figure skating stars. Zhenya never thought she would be stock for trap in Japan where she is. Thousands of other people are in the same boat and are just stuck

Hopefully she stays safe and gets back tty o Toronto or Moscow in time.

Local governments in Japan have specifically made announcements asking people not to visit their prefectures. And people have been asked specifically not to go see cherry blossoms... you don't see the problem?

Athletes are self-isolating at home, yet she is travelling to Japan to get ice time everything else be damned?

I'll say it again, there have been multiple PR nightmares created by these athletes and their social media posting; the Fed or their agents or parents need to step in and get them some social media training, and tell them you have 2 social media accounts, 1 that's public for all your sponsor posts, and another that's only for close friends and family that you post all your out and about random pictures.

I wonder if Medvedeva has created a potential problem with future shows in Japan - Japan is 1 of the few countries where there are lots of skating shows, if she has angered people enough will shows decide to not book her to avoid any PR nightmares?

I think she'll be fine in Japan because they love her there. Those Japanese citizens frustrated with Zhenya and making comments about her being in a park will pass in time. I truly think everything will be good between her and the Japanese promoters that pay her major yen for showing up and performing. Med is money in Japan!

I mean let's just all agree that even if she was contractually obligated, travelling abroad wasn't very smart. She was wearing an n95 mask in an airport but also holding a shark stuffed animal which collects dust and other things, so like um ok. But nobody is perfect, and people are allowed to go in parks as far as we know. She doesn't seem to be going near everyone but is certainly stirring up quite the amount of panic because of her public stature. It was a mistake, the severity can be debated but I think that if she thinks twitter was getting too harmful she was right to leave, however maybe a clarification or update post wouldn't hurt either.

Well 20 is still young and inexperienced in some senses, even if you are a two time world champion in figure skating you may not be a world champion in dealing with public attention just yet.

Contractually obliged? I can hardly believe this, any reasonable contract has superior clauses to deal with these kind of emergencies, unless you didn't read all the small print?

PR agents, managers, parents, even BOrser or more experienced TCC skaters who have been contracted before should be able to give solid advice to a legal adult and experienced traveler.

Medvyedeva the only cast member feeling this urgent need, contractual obligations or whatever to travel transcontinental in an ongoing pandemic?

Japan OC or IOC calling their honorary Russia OG ambassador to an urgent meeting concerning the proposed cancellation or postponement of their most important Games? With a WADA ban still looming over Russia?

As long as no honest answers are given, people continue to speculate, yellow pages have a field day, and what about damage control from the person responsible and her advisors, if any?

Now, the media are on this, and certain kinds won’t let her off so easily. Not even mentioning certain anti-fans with their own agenda.

There could also be more going on, like things with BOrser not really working out, lack of results and FFKKR getting doubtful?

Any kind of negative publicity let alone scandal will get you tainted under the current circumstances, and the coming season is at stake, both competitively and commercially. When there will be a reduced competitive season, why sustain a full team of ‘oldtimers’ when the major event coming up are the Winter Games where young, fresh and more advanced athletes will have the best chances? Show season in the commercially attractive Japan? Makes me wonder Zakaryan has a hand in this, as his hands seem everywhere in ISU as of late, since he sort of publicly defended the incident?

Better provide the truth and lie low, ride out this situation? Or any attention is better than no attention when the tide is moving against you?
Given how the other Russian athletes deal with the situation, obeying stay at home orders, helping the nation cope with self isolation and quarantine, while diligently putting in every effort to stay in shape?

I cannot make sense of her decisions and behaviour with a positive outcome.

To the people wondering what is the problem- google “silent spreader” or “asymptomatic carrier”. It is estimated that a very large % of people with the virus never exhibit any symptoms (especially young and healthy ones).

Thats why this virus spreads like fire.

And thats why people are asked to stay home. And not to travel. And especially not to travel internationally. If a person has been travelling like crazy and visiting very populated places and airports (US, Canada and Tokyo), they might have picked it up and not aware of it.

And then people like this go to small towns with older population and not too many hospital beds.

Make your own conclusion whether there is an issue or not.

She went via Tokyo airport when? A month ago or more? She was in a quarantine which ended. As you can see in the video, she keeps a distance of some 500 metres from other people. So how a spread of the virus is possible? Please be reasonable.
Surely she doesn't make a good example for other people who stay at home. But name her fault, don't write about airports (where she was before the second wave of epidemy in Japan) and crowded places (as the park obviously is not such a place), don't write about hospitals and older population as this is demagogy. Yes, she should have stayed inside. Yes, she made a bad example. But that's all. The rest is just flapping.
