Somebody wrote to say that Rhohene Ward landed a quad at this event...haven't read any reports yet though of his performance.
What worries me is that Caro must not have scored very high (relatively speaking) either on the PCS or the GOE's, so despite her 3/3, her score of 63 wold put her in 5th at the last WC. Hopefully it's just a matter of her concentrating hard on the 3/3, so she isn't very comfortable or polished with her two brand new programs yet. Go Caro!![]()
Someone on FSU reported that Rohene Ward also landed a triple axel in his FS, along with the quad toe combo (only the third time in his career that he has landed both jumps in the same program, I believe).Rhohene landed a beautiful quad/triple in his free skate. He didn't have the best short program, but had a wonderful free skate ( though looked as though he tired near the end).
I don't know why you would be comparing her PCS and GOE to the top ladies at 2007 Worlds, since Caroline won't be eligible to compete at Worlds THIS YEAR.
Self-consistency is a whole other argument. I, for one, do nottake the comparison of scores seriusly from not only year to year but from one competition to another..One might not consider the ISU judging system self-consistent enough to have the last WC scores to be predictive of what anyone will get in the upcoming GP events, but then I don't think last year's GP scores will be any more predictive!Self-consistency is a whole other argument.

The official results are up:

Caro got 106.2 in the LP, giving a total of 169.3 . She probably lost about 10 points for the fall on the 3F (planned 3F/3T) in the TES, and probably about 5 points in the PCS.
Based on these scores, I think she will do well enough on the GP's to end up in the GP Final. But she will have to really up her PCS in order to secure a medal there. Her PCS of 50.8 is about 10 points lower than what the top ladies got at the last WC (she's skating about the level of how well Joannie Rochette did, who was 5th in LP). In particular, I think she needs to increase her speed and deepen the edges to have any hope of equaling Mao & Yu-na's feat of winning the GPF on their first try.
She's still got 3 months left (before GPF) to really get into these two new programs of hers. I'm looking forward to seeing them on TV -- next month!![]()
I wish people would not use the name 'Caro' if it doesn't mean Kostner. I don't know if friends of Caroline Zhang actually call her Caro. If they do and it is legitimately a nick-name, then please say Caro Z.
Joe
Yeah, I also found it confusing, but then I took a look at the context and it dawned on me...
Do Plushenko and Yagudin really get called Plushy and Yags by their friends? Those seem to be pretty legitimate nicknames on skating forums, even if no one really calls them that to their faces.
That makes sense -- consistent with Slooot for Irina S....but they pronounce it "Plooshy" and will rapidly correct you if you try and call him "Pluh'-shee".

Shazhang!
Cazhang? Cazho? (no, too close to Cujo, actually I like Cujo as a nickname but it could be taken the wrong way I guess)
Zhangy? Zhangee?
Ms Bo-zhangles?
Zhang a-lang a-ding-dong?
