My impressions of the ladies free test skates
Samodelkina - the clear winner for me. She looked super confident technically and I think she has improved a lot artistically as well. That solid 3A is going to be super important in the future. If last season teached us anything, it was that Kostornaia's 3A made her superior to the quad girls (except for nationals but that was close). I really think Samodelkina can challenge the Eteri girls big time. Now, let's not follow the Tuktamysheva school and skip some of the other triples just because you have a 3A, you will need it all.
Osokina - what a wonderful surprise! She has also improved a lot, and she was so much fun to watch. Great energy, interesting spins, and she has a unique prescence on the ice. Great stuff!
Khromykh - gone are the nervous looking Maiia from last year. She looks so much more confident this year. Also a nice surprise. I don't see that 4S anywhere near right now, but if she gets it, it probably won't be enough against Samodelkina's 3A's. We'll see.
Usacheva - looks also more mature this season, but as others have said, that program is a mess. And she still seems a bit nervous and the jumps are not fully there. A bit of a disappointment actually.
Frolova - what to do with Frolova? She is a nice skater, but something is lacking, I can't put my finger on it. Except for the fact that she reminds me of my grandmother, I think she kind of has an "old" mature looking face. And I don't know, is that why I think the whole routine looks a bit - old? And doesn't she have the weirdest looking Biellmann?
Muravyova - looks to me that she wasn't fully prepared for this. Needs a lot more work.
I missed Petrosyan. She is probably the one that can challenge Samodelkina at this point.
But what was the point really for these test skates for juniors? There is no JGP, and everyone will be at the Russian Cup stages anyway, right? And the spots for JW will be decided after Nationals anyway, so what was the point?
