Alina Zagitova

In the desert of COVID finance I’m pretty sure there will be broadcast to make some money. It’s just different to watch figure skating live. Especially if practices are open. And Alina’s practices are the best part.

I agree that live is different and much more involving.
Speed and ice coverage are totally lost in TV and even if you're looking from afar compared to TV close ups, the armomy of the skater's movement and the communication of emotions is much stronger.

I stumbled across this on another site, and it made me cry: https://www.another site.com/r/Figu...ina_skated_to_the_soundtrack_of_hachiko_when/

There is something so moving about little Alina falling in love with the Akita, skating to the soundtrack of the movie that had introduced her to the breed, and then being gifted one, for her superb Olympic performances, and now appearing in a movie about a loyal dog, with her own beloved Masaru at her side. I am all tearful and emotional, watching her skate her dreams about a dog, and knowing that it would be her skating that would fulfil them.

Wow, I hadn't seen this program before... the music is beautiful and watching it now, knowing the story of Alina and Masaru brings a very special meaning to it :luv17:

Thank you for sharing this :)

Great finding :agree:

The honorary head of the ROC spoke about Alina's prospects in golf :)

MOSCOW, August 29 - RIA Novosti, Anatoly Samokhvalov.
Alina Zagitova, the 2018 Olympic champion in figure skating, will be able to prove herself in golf, as she has the necessary talent, Honorary President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Alexander Zhukov told RIA Novosti.
Zagitova tried her hand at golf in July at the "Strong Figures" intellectual sports festival. The figure skater suspended her career last season, then resumed training and, according to the general director of the Russian Figure Skating Federation Alexander Kogan, will perform at the test skates of the Russian national team, which will be held September 12-13 in Moscow.
“She almost hit the hole the first time,” Zhukov said over the phone, recalling Zagitova’s July training session, in which he also took part. “She just tried the club and hit it from about five meters. A talented athlete, what can you say. In my opinion, she liked golf. "
“Former athletes usually switch to golf here in Russia, but all over the world, people start doing this sport early on from childhood,” the honorary head of the ROC noted, talking about Zagitova's prospects in this sport after the end of her figure skating career.
According to him, there are still many talented young golfers in Russia. “When Alina finishes figure skating, I think she will be able to prove herself in golf, but one needs to do it seriously, and for now she doesn’t have such an opportunity, and this is good. We will still have a chance to admire her on the ice,” Zhukov concluded.

On the positive side, hosting the Ice Age will be great practice for her journalism career and and we'll get to see more of her on TV :)

You are right, of course, but it is difficult for me to be positive. There is plenty of time for journalism and tv shows and not that much for competitive skating. Of course, I wish her well in whatever she chooses, but I really hoped she would compete this season and the next!

Also, a TV show like this may lead to overexposure and I am not sure how good that is for her star power. She will have to read lines written by TV writers and her image will depend on them. So I still hope the newspaper got it wrong.

Alina will become the new host of the Ice Age show, which will be filmed in the middle of the season. The article says she will skip the Russian Cups (I hope we get a confirmation from Alina or RusFed whether this is true or not)

:( :sad21:

I have two different feelings about this news. For someone who didn't like to be in the media to be hosting this show is unbelievable. This is a great media turn around for Alina. But as far as her competitive career goes I think this is game set match. While that's disappointing it's time for her to move on to other things such as University and Ice Age kids. We also need to remember how tough training is physically and mentally and she's been at this since she was 4 or 5 years old. While I'm sad she wont be competing anymore (the handwriting is on the wall) it's a blessing she has many career and life options to choose from. 99.9% of athletes are not as fortunate. Alina has certainly earned every bit of her success.

I have the same mixed feelings. As a fan of Alina, the competitive athlete, I'm sad not to see her compete. On the other hand this season feels so uncertain and strange who knows what is actually going to happen? We may not have seen her compete regardless due to the logistics of trying to hold international competitions in circumstances that are still unclear.

When she took a break last season and covid happened it seemed she had chosen wisely to opt out of a season that ended prematurely. Now this season is also uncertain at best, so maybe she is choosing wisely again?

As a fan of Alina, the person, I am happy for her to have this experience. And happy I will be able to watch it on YouTube.

To be honest, I don't mind at all. As I have said it before (when she announced her break), I don't see her being able to find enough motivation to compete with the younger generations. It'd be nice to see her farewell performance at the test skates though. I hope it won't be cancelled because of this. And of course I can't wait to see her in a completely new role as a TV show host. :)

I'm really hoping for some kind of message from Alina...
There's so many questions right now

To be honest, I'm kinda disappointed about this decision because it means "retirement" for me. I know it's inevitable but this moment comes so soon.
All most every figure skating fan talked about her retirement after she announced the break. But I was waiting and expecting her back since then because she once said she wanted to be a figure skating who had a long career. She is a devoting and passionate girl, whatever decision she makes, she will achieve the best results. If this means retirement, I believe she has considered seriously and chosen the best way for herself. She never lives for the sake of others, she knows what is the best for her.
BUT, as a fan, I'm pretty sad after I saw the news and wanna cry right now :sad46: It's her life, we are only bystanders. Maybe I‘m too emotionally involved with her growth. Good luck to her, but I really need some time to recover. :palmf:
