Playing devil's advocate i think Eteri's idea is that this is the same approach she uses for all the skaters, which also includes Aliona back when she was a junior, which is more attentions to the new generations than the seniors, it's their way to guarantee a consistent track record.

To me Aliona potentially spotted the reason why juniors end up looking better often there, because they all get more attentions and sometimes better programs too as of result.

Both Kostornaya and Trusova asked for more, the coaches didn't respond so they left.

No drama needed there imo.

Anna was amazing. Music literally vibrates through her body like she's some kind of living instrument, she doesn't "hit" musical accents, musical accents hit her. I've never seen anything like that.
There are skaters with better skating skills, but interpretation and musicality? I don't think anybody is even close.

Kamila was great as well - she actually hit musical accents perfectly today and her ss improved even more, jumps looked stable.

I liked Medvedeva step sequence, she didn't overperform the beginning of the program like before, it was good artistic performance.

Same with Samodurova, she gave very good show unlike her teammate Liza who was a mess in short.

Alyona was good, but only that for her capabilities.

Sasha improved in skating as well, jumps looked solid.

Waiting for the long to draw greater conclusions, especially in technical regard.

Shcherbakova about the transitions of Kostornaya and Trusova: "The transfers took place next to me, and they did not concern me"

Two-time Russian champion Anna Shcherbakova said that the departure of the skaters from the group of Eteri Tutberidze did not affect her preparation.

...

“In fact, these transfers took place next to me, and they did not concern me.

I left everything as it was, and I have nothing to say to this, ”said Shcherbakova.

Anya is a really smart girl! I was about to post this in her fanfest, but thought I could share it here.

Very smart to state she's got nothing to say about it hopefully that puts to bed any questions directed to her about them.

I just missed Zagi :shock2: I think I just realized she was my fave Russian lady, lol. Well, I still like Shcherbackova and Trusova...

Thing is, no one has said that Eteri had everyone on ice because she's evil. Yes, that's the approach and I'm not gonna comment whether it's good or bad, however it was clearly not suited for Aliona. So why is everyone saying "well it worked for the others" and as you said "she was once a kid too"? Guess what, she no longer is. As Ted said, people grow up, they want something different, so they go and seek that. And that's what Aliona did - didn't say a single bad word about the team, only said that it wasn't convenient for her, asked her coaches, thought she wasn't heard so she went and found something perhaps more suitable for her. Meanwhile Eteri goes and makes it look as if she's with her head high in the clouds. I mean.... I don't like that approach at all. It's distasteful, it's not fair to the skaters. Both Sasha and Aliona were nice and Eteri wasn't.

He also said "the grass on the other side is greener"

I mentioned "she was once a kid" because I don't doubt there was a time when she was that age and was on the same ice with older skaters. Also, considering the level of skating in Russia, even among novices, I do not believe 10 years old skaters "don't know what to do". Being heard - the only question is whether there was another solution that would simply allow "to be heard". To me this doesn't look like a reason for leaving after three very succesful seasons that "I wasn't heard" about particularly such thing. Of course, I am not Aliona and I don't want to hold her where she doesn't want to be.

I also can't comment (and make conclusions) on how precisely the particular conversation looked like.

Good for her

Just like Alina when someone asked her about Zhenya's departure. In this I agree such answer is the best thing you can do and even I say that Eteri would avoid many problems if some of her replies were like that (even though I understand her feelings).

I’m not too worried about Alena, I think she did well considering her recent transition. She just needs more time. Her basic skating is so effortless.

I loved Med’s step sequence- I hope she can bring that energy to the rest of the program.

I thought there were some bright spots in everyone’s skating. I actually really like Liza’s program too.

Yes, I feel - not fully satisfied, as if I missed something, last act of the play or something like that. Emotional expression - Alina, please do not leave competitive skating :(

Yeah when a favourite leaves it just doesn't feel the same competition... I think I'd just love to watch her even do show skating personally, it's okay for me if she moves on after having won everything (including thousands of fans!). But still, she was so sincere and improved so much as a performer last season...

Last year's test skates was one of her absolutely best performances ever, both SP and FS, this is what I missed today and will miss in the future. Alina has still many things to show in figure skating. Now I will probbaly nourish the hope that at leaast olympic season will make her to compete again.

I just realized Anna has no major international title, unlike every other skater who participated here.

She better hope there are worlds/euros this year otherwise I don’t think she will ever get one.

Russian test skates are good for looking at programs, but have never been a good predictor of how the season turns out. Every year ppl forget this.

Girl won RusNats twice, that‘s as hard as winning an international title IMO.

Also, the last couple of times people wrote Anna off, it didn‘t end well for them. Be careful or you might see her win the Olympics.

But, a fun statistics, since I‘m bored and we‘re on the topic of medals. Today we had:

Olympic medals:
2 Silvers (Zhenya)

Youth Olympic medals:
Gold (Liza)

World medals:
3 Golds (2x Zhenya, 1x Liza)
1 Bronze (Zhenya)

European medals:
5 Golds (2x Zhenya, 1x Liza, 1x Sofia, 1x Aliona)
2 Silvers (Zhenya, Anna)
2 Bronzes (Liza, Sasha)

GPF medals:
4 Golds (2x Zhenya, 1x Liza, 1x Aliona)
1 Silver (Anna)
2 Bronze (Liza, Sasha)

RusNats medals:
5 Golds (2x Anna, 2x Zhenya, 1x Liza)
4 Silvers (2x Liza, 1x Aliona, 1x Sasha)
6 Bronze (2x Aliona, 2x Liza, 1x Zhenya, 1x Sasha)

World Junior medals:
4 Golds (2x Sasha, 1x Zhenya, 1x Kamila)
3 Silvers (Anna, Aliona, Liza)
1 Bronze (Zhenya)

JGPF medals:
4 Golds (Sasha, Aliona, Zhenya, Kamila)
3 Silvers (Sasha, Aliona, Liza)
1 Bronze (Zhenya)

That’s.. quite a few medals. And if Alina was here, we‘d have had two more Olympic medals, and even more World/European/GPF titles/medals! If you were to count all the GP/JGP/Challenger medals, you’d probably go crazy. Did I miss anything?

Yes, completely agree! It's hard for me to think of another recent skater who is as expressive- Mao Asada and Oksana Baiul are the only ones who come to mind.
Sometimes I feel Anna missed her calling as a modern dancer or ballerina. The music choice is very safe for her, but after the poor reception her Perfume SP got last year, I understand why her team chose a safer option. It's too bad, because Anna can probably dance to anything and make it look good. Her hip hop gala program is one of my favorites and shows how versatile she is.
