Evgenia Medvedeva

At this point, I just hope she withdraws. She needs to heal. It's almost obvious that she is on her own. (Even if it's not the case, Mishin is perhaps the only coach in Russia that really knows how to work with "adult and problematic" female skaters (that's not an insult to any coach, it's just my opinion), and obviously he is not an option for her right now. )Her programs have HUGE potential, so she can keep them for next season. Zhenya needs to heal and rest, and then go to Canada when she's able. Obviously, I will.support her no matter what, I'm just worried.

If she has vertebrae degeneration with a nervous root being inflammed/trapped by the injury, one of the only solutions is resting for at least 6 weeks taking opioids and if that doesn’t solve the problem, she can have some corticosteroids injections in the injury site. However, the only permanent solution is surgery, which would probably lead to at least 6 months of total and absolute rest and not skating. Back injuries are the worst.

She cannot withdraw. Her place on the National Team is on the line. If she does not do the Russian Cups she cannot qualify for Nationals and if she does not go to Nationals her season is basically over before it even started and she could likely lose her spot on the National Team with Maiia, Kamila and Daria turning senior next season.

As expected, Zhenya is downplaying her injury and Brian once again has to tell us what is really going on:

"She needs to recover from a chronic back injury ... It looks like it's really a problem at the moment," Orser said over the phone.

“Her performance (at the Test Skates) was below her level. It was so hard trying to train at such a long distance. She definitely needs her usual riding routine, borderline work (general fitness), training and so on. I honestly, I don't know how we can handle it. She misses our program (training) here at Cricket, but the planet has other plans for us at the moment, "added the specialist."

Exactly what I thought. :( I still hope it's possible for her to withdraw from the first stage and get a later one.

Yeah, the situation is ... bad. It's so funny to me when I read Zhenya's h.ters and they all like: "Oh, Fed do all kinds of favours for Medvedeva." Of course they do, of course...

Couldnt she skate in one of the later cup events? What will happrn then to ksenia sinitsia who withdrew from thefirst stage ? Will she not get another event which is later on.?

This is the fan thread of zhenya .. so why we don't try to be positive because we already have the russian's ladies thread to beaten her up!

So what the worst case .. she doesn't go to nationals .. well she goes to canada and have and whole year to heal, train and get back like a fenix --> who doesn't a love of a fenix in the olympic year

_ She doesn't go to the 1 or 2 to cup --> let's think positive --> she can go later or go to canada and go to GP ( maybe RusFed will do and exception who participate in the GP in other country)
_ She goes and fails --> for me that just proves that she never gives up no matter what .. how easy would have been for zhenya leave the figure skating after the olympics .. have some respect for her even when she fails

Everybody here is a hardcore fan of hers, talking about the reality is not being “negative”.

Evgenia is injured and had a very bad skate.

We can be positive, but we can’t be blind.

We all know and understand that her situation is very delicate. She might not even qualify to Russian Nationals, and that would be tragic, because she may lose her funding.

We don't know if skaters are allowed to change their assignments. Many have already withdrawn from the first stages and there were no news so far if they were allowed to change their assignments.

Also the fields in the later events are even deeper and qualifying would be even more harder, Brian said not only the injury is an issue but also that Zhenya does not have her usual training routine and environment available in Moscow, more time would not fix that. The best plan is to force herself through the first two stages, travel to Canada if the borders are then open, skip Rostelecom Cup and come back for RusNats. Two weeks quarantine are no longer mandatory in Russia only for Moscow and a few other cities and as far as I know Tarasova/Morozov can fly in for their first Russian Cup from the U.S. without going through quarantine. So Zhenya would only have two weeks of quarantine in Canada and then around 7 weeks of training time before RusNats. RusFed made a dumb decision when they made this two Russian Cups rule in order to qualify for RusNats, half of Russia's skaters are injured due to being forced to rush back to training full-time after quarantine since RusFed is forcing them to comepte so early and now so many skaters have to withdraw from everything. RusFed is currently sabotaging themselves with this. If they go on that way without thinking about their skater's health they won't have many skaters left for the Olympics.

Let's think of the different scenarios, as I'm sure Evgenia is.
Go to the first 2 competitions and she earns enough points to do Nationals.
Cancel the first stage and hope to get another one. She has to go to 2.

Don't go to any cup stages, return to Canada, do Skate Canada and take the rest of the season off.

Do one Russian cup, hope to do a challenger and senior B.

Being on the Russian team is really important, but her back being healed is way more important. Also, we don't know if there will be Europeans or Worlds.

Whatever decision Evgenia makes, I will respect and be fine with.

I made a comment defending her and saying Dave couldn’t stop being mean to her and I got an infraction. I don’t understand why.

We’re all talking about how much hate she gets from TSL, why haven’t all the other comments about it been deleted?

Ask the mods why? And did you quote someone else and their post got deleted?

No, the other comment is here, and I got the infraction for negative/inappropriate comment.

Anyways: I worry about Evgenia this season.

She’s been in drama related to having gone to Japan.

She didn’t have the best training conditions in Russia.

Why can’t she go to the USA and try to get to Canada the way Jason did?

I read that except Ana, the rest are around 14 year old juniors, among them Zhenya would have to compete with Khromykh (also EG) and I think with quad. Also Frolova. So I don't expect anything from this stage. And the next stage will be even worse.

I don't want to be negative but the reality indicates that it will be difficult for her to classify for nationals.

Khromykh is trying to do 4S, but not sure if she ever managed to land it cleanly.

As for nationals, I read (not sure if correct) that Zhenya needs place within the 6th, so the chances to qualify are not slim at all.

I read the same on Twitter and I though if this is true, the RusFed is more pathetic than I thought. Seriously, they didn't have an official to hold her phone?

But well they use Zhenya for all their projects. Why don't they take the other girls to give motivational talks to Rostelecom employees? Why do they use Zhenya's face of their sports projects? And let's not mention her appearance in front of the IOC so they could go to Pyongyang. And so many other things.

Minimal thanks to at least they should have cared about her current situation. They have done nothing to help her while others have all kinds of privileges. They are ashamed.

Agree with every word! RusFed are really pathetic.
So it appears that in fact Zhenya had to ask basically a random guy to hold her phone and video her skates...
This is ridiculous!

So what the worst case .. she doesn't go to nationals ..

We all love Zhenya, no one intends to beat her down. The difference to the RLT is that our comments are caused by concern, they‘re not malicious.

But the thing is, we have serious cause to worry. She‘s injured and keeps on competing. With a back injury, this can have dangerous consequences. There have been many careers that were cut short because of something like that

Also, if she doesn‘t go to Nationals, she loses her place on the National team. She depends on that funding to finance her training in Canada, especially now that there‘s no shows to earn money.

The situation‘s tough. I try to believe in Zhenya but things are not looking good right now.

And Luna her tissue box. It's so terrible. She has friends with other skaters. I'm sure one of them would have been at the boards with her.

Evgenia did not seem worried after test skates, so maybe we should trust her. I love her programs and even a watered down content, she could be third or fourth. She has a naturally slim build. Maybe she's been walking Jerry too much, Jerry has slimmed down too. :)
I think she just doesnt want to talk about it, she knows better than us whats wrong with her. But fact is bodywise she looked better over the summer and last year than this year, she does look like she lost some of those muscles she had last year plus she is injured by a chronical issue which she knows will never go away completely , so yeah i would also not be in a mood to talk about it infront of the press. Plus she knows that to get to rusnats she in her condition, beeing injured literally has to compete like that or loose her chance for rusnats.

Plan 2 does not work, she cannot go to Skate Canada. Borders are still closed at least until the end of September, as mentioned before. She could not make it in time with quarantine and co, if somehow the border is opened. Zhenya said herself that she cannot attend Skate Canada this year it is not possibl, she said this once again at Test Skates, so I don't know why we are still talking about SC.

If she loses her spot on the National Team, which will happen if she skips RusNats and the Cups, she loses all of her funding and a second GP spot for next season could be on the line, so yes, it's important. ISU has not revealed how GP spots will be assigned next season as this year's GP does not count towards WS and we don't know if they have a SB's system this season. With her current World standing she is guaranteed one GP spot next season, however, we don't know how her WS will shift after this season if she skips everything. If she loses her spot on the National Team she won't get a second one, if her WS drops off the Top 24 if she skips all competitions she won't get even one GP spot. There are only 18 assignments for Russia for ladies at the GP, they usual give each girl two. Now imagine we have Kostornaiia, Trusova, Shcherbakova, Valieva, Khromykh, Usacheva, Tuktamysheva, Samodurova, Konstantinova, Gulyakova Evgenia and Sinitsyna available next season, 12 girls but only 18 spots (so 9 girls will get two), who will they give the two GPs to? The girl who skipped every competition this season, who skipped RusNats? No. Zhenya cannot afford to skip the Cups. Everything is on the line. Zhenya knows that and that is why she emphasized that she will compete this week. We all know that Zhenya does not have the same support from RusFed as she had two years ago. She cannot afford to lose even more of that.

I agree, we love Zhenya and therefore worry about her. We don't have to wear pink glasses here.
