2020 Cup of Russia: Stage I

Why is Shcherbakova doing a quad flip instead of a lutz? I would assume she will do her most comfortable quad especially this early season then just add the flip later this season when her stamina is better.
maybe Flip is in better condition actually, or they wanted to try a different jump than at the test skates, considering there will be only one in the program (though the program is built for at least two quads - those two 2A are a placeholder).

As expected, Shcherbakova was in a league of her own. I wonder about the 4Lz though - has she ditched it?

A very pleasant surprise for me was Talalaykina's program. Loved it! She is such a performer. If she can polish up the tech that program can go far.

I thought Danny G looked a bit peeved during both of his ladies skates. I think himself and Anna were surprised at the score being so high. I wonder what’ll be said to Maia behind the scenes? It mightn’t be pretty.

I thought both the Anna’s to be a bit bland, even though I like the lightness of Frolova. I enjoyed Maia’s performance even if the jumps weren’t there. It was funny to see Frolova standing behind SD and DG during Maia’s skate and her shock after the 4S.

She was doing the quad Lutz in the AM practice so Im surprise she opted for the flip. Also only 1 quad flip instead of 2. Maybe just an experiment.

Seriously that is what you got from that?

The protocols are up.

Anna got 3 Bonuses for the same spins as yesterday and for the 4F.
She also got a q on the Loop and < on the Salchow so that seems like fair judging.
Her PCS 74.24 is half a point more than at RusNats last season.

Talalaykina got FOUR <...

Did Gleikhengauz even attempt to listen to the two pieces of music before splicing them together for Shcherbackova?

Could Maiia be the first presentation-better-than-jumps production of this school?

She shows a lot of personality on the ice. Maybe more than Anna S. Loving her fierceness.

I hope she can get consistent with jumps and become the next big thing in FS.

I think so. I love Maiia (also Daria) but many long-term Eteri fans aren't very fond of them. However, they both have such good basic skating skills and such good lines. They are also musical. Their presentation is so good, their jumps are lovely too but they aren't consistent. I think they both have so much potential. I love them and I can't say I have ever felt that way about any other Eteri junior skater (with the exception of Alena). I hope they can succeed.

Probably experimenting. She does a better flip than lutz, so I think it would be good if she's getting the flip more consistent where she can do that jump twice and the quad lutz once since the lutz is where she runs into edge problems. It's only a half-point less in BV substituting the flip for the lutz. I believe she mentioned at test skates, which was only last week that her jumps were only about 50% or something along those lines so it makes sense to not push it too much at this competition especially given the lead she had going into the FS. She now has a month till her next event so it wouldn't surprise me if she adds in another quad or is able to change the solo quad to a combination.
