Yes there is not enough skating...instead we have coaching dramas. And I don't know why....I can't wait until Saturday and Stage 2. (And a potential new episode of Eteri vs Plush)
Watching skating is what keeps me sane these days.![]()

Agree. Medvedeva is a grown up now. And I also think she should know by now how this numbers game is played. You can get level 4 on your spins without a Biellmann. Medvedeva have had really poor spins lately, adding a Biellmann won't make them better. She knows that, right?!?Well in defense of Tarasova, only Medvedeva is going to know how badly her back feels and part of the whole "being an adult" is speaking up about what you can and can't do. Tarasova was probably looking at Medvedeva's poor showing the last 2 years and her jumping deficiencies and trying to find ways to pump her difficulty up without it being a quad or triple axel.
And when I watched younger and older aged Novice last year, I felt that some of those in the middle of the pack had some great potential, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them rise in the future--as long as they get the opportunities. So many fall away-for various reasons-they lose motivation, puberty, injuries etc. But even if they are only stars at 11, 12, 13-they still got to shine and be at the top and they should carry that with them.I think it's really difficult to predict several years from age eligibility who is going to dominate; I remember seeing people metaphorically drooling all over Proklova as being the next big "star" years ago and she never really competed at the senior level.
Agree and disagree. Lots of young talents never get to their potential, because they are stars too early and have unreasonable expectations (imo). And when I watched younger and older aged Novice last year, I felt that some of those in the middle of the pack had some great potential, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them rise in the future--as long as they get the opportunities. But did she have a poor showing the last 2 seasons? Maybe for her own standards, but she’s the reigning Worlds bronze medalist and last season was the highest scoring Russian lady outside Eteri’s trio formerly known as the 3A.Well in defense of Tarasova, only Medvedeva is going to know how badly her back feels and part of the whole "being an adult" is speaking up about what you can and can't do. Didn't know that Skate Canada with Trusova, Kihira, Tennel, Young You, Yelim Kim and co. is not "packed".Yes she did enough to get the Worlds bronze in 2019 but in truth she backed into that by a favorite having a mediocre outing, it's not like she came in and did a lights out performance, but she's been inconsistent often having a fairly abysmal performance in 1 of the segments of her GP competitions, she's been saved from terrible finishes because GP fields aren't stacked with all the top competitors at 1 event.
True. And I actually think that these past two seasons she had a lot of reputation scoring going on. That bronze at Worlds was very very lucky imo, I would have her at sixth or below if I was scoring.Yes she did enough to get the Worlds bronze in 2019 but in truth she backed into that by a favorite having a mediocre outing, it's not like she came in and did a lights out performance, but she's been inconsistent often having a fairly abysmal performance in 1 of the segments of her GP competitions, she's been saved from terrible finishes because GP fields aren't stacked with all the top competitors at 1 event.
You can't compare the scores though with 2015 as the scoring rules changed in 2018-19 season.Didn't know that Skate Canada with Trusova, Kihira, Tennel, Young You, Yelim Kim and co. is not "packed".
Zhenya had the 6th highest SB last season (225) and only skaters who have ultra-C elements (3A, Kamila and Rika) managed to beat that last season. Even with her messed up SP but great FS at Skate Canada she would have medaled bronze at Cup of China and Skate America with her total score, with the extremly packed Skate Canada it was only 5th. She was in fact at some of the most packed events last GP season. She would have been placed much higher at different events. Btw Zhenya's SB of 225 last season was higher than her SB during her 2015-2016 season, when she won Worlds, which so many love to quote her as one of her best seasons.
...and Belarussian Varvara Kisel.About 1.5 years ago I thought Akatyeva would rule Rus FS after 3A+K, now here comes Zhilina sisters, Samodelkina and (probably) more![]()

She was my favorite skater of that group of skaters to debut on the same season: Alexandra Proklova, Evgenia Medvedeva, Maria Sotskova, Serafima Sakhanovich.I think it's really difficult to predict several years from age eligibility who is going to dominate; I remember seeing people metaphorically drooling all over Proklova as being the next big "star" years ago and she never really competed at the senior level.

Hey, that‘s great! I‘ll quote that when I see “Medvedeva‘s scores with Brian regressed so much compared to her previous seasons with Eteri!“ the next time. But oh well. She‘s back with Eteri now. Let‘s see what that brings. You can't compare the scores though with 2015 as the scoring rules changed in 2018-19 season.

Zhenya did. In 2018 after the Olympics, when she was not allowed to jump for months after her back injury was diagnosed. Zhenya came back many months later, managed to restore her jumps and won bronze at Worlds at the end of the season. No, in all honesty - this is likely the end of that woman‘s career (who‘s ever come back successfully from a chronic back injury that might even need surgery?) and yet you all keep on talking about how her past successes were undeserved? Give me a break.![]()
Plushenko? Though not sure if he had one recurring back injury or many different ones. And I'm not advocating that Zhenya go the bionic route...(who‘s ever come back successfully from a chronic back injury that might even need surgery?)
Plushenko?after 2010 his back was full of hardware.Hey, that‘s great! I‘ll quote that when I see “Medvedeva‘s scores with Brian regressed so much compared to her previous seasons with Eteri!“ the next time. But oh well. She‘s back with Eteri now. Let‘s see what that brings.

It's not undeserved, it never is. Those who wins those medals earned them. But in the veeery subjective sport of figure skating there is bound to be different opinions, right?Hey, that‘s great!
