Evgenia Medvedeva

Lyashev is a man in power, these men often respond differently from you or me. He had Medvyedeva invited to the 50 year Sambo-70 celebrations over Zagitova.

I think, Yevgeniya herself will tell us on her social media when she feels ready and there is some positive new.

She isn't a pawn in the unsavory things going on right now, and probably best not get involved.

News about Zhenya's injury:

"The world and European figure skating champion of Russia Evgenia Medvedeva was diagnosed with a pinched nerve between two vertebrae in the back, at the moment it is possible to do without surgical intervention. TASS was informed about this by two sources unrelated to each other.Medvedeva has a problem with the spine, she has a pinched nerve, so far she managed to do without surgery. Doctors are doing everything possible to fully restore the functions of the back," said one of the agency's interlocutors. "She does exercise therapy, swims in the pool, she undergoes physiotherapy, Doctors hope that all these measures will lead to a full recovery, if not, more serious non-surgical measures will be taken. "

Edit: Another update.
"Evgenia Medvedeva returns to training today. The figure skater will be preparing for the upcoming starts. Officially, she will have one of the Moscow Grand Prix stages in the near future. But, according to my info, the opportunity is being considered to apply for the fourth and fifth stages of the Russian Cup in Kazan and Moscow time, respectively. If everything goes well with the back (and also if the condition of compulsory performance at two stages of the CD for the selection for the Chechen Republic remains), we may see Zhenya at both. In short, while we live. But the situation is still quite difficult"
going back to training immeditaly kind of worries me. I hope they will take time and not rush it...

"Yes, she has a pinched nerve, it really is. She is being treated, but, in spite of everything, she is eager to fight, intends to train and perform further. A fighter, an example to follow, a real person, a patriot of her country, her school, not only the school administration, but also the students of "Sambo-70", everyone with whom she studied here, hold their fists for her and want her to be all right, sincerely wish her health, "said Laishev.

This guy.... Where was he to say something nice when she was with Brian... I swear he annoys me the most out of everyone at times.

Luna listed many of his public compliments to Zhenya even after she left TT. He is strange from time to time but his history is as a supporter of Evgenia.

It's good she's getting back on the ice soon to see where she is physically especially her back. I hope Zhenyas medical team is on top of things.
The question is have they figured out what is ailing her and how to fix it?

Layshev despite his questionable and often times crazy interviews was often very supportive of Zhenya even after she left. On his instagram he always congratulated her on her birthday, congratulated her many times when she won medals at competitions, when she was assigned ambassador for the Summer Olympics last year, as well as wrote a post dedicated about Zhenya on the first day of school in Russia last year. In November 2018 when Zhenya was struggeling mentally in competitions he made a very supportive post for her saying that people need to support Zhenya that everyone has highs and lows in their life and that she currently needs time to adjust to new coaches and a new environment and that he is proud of her and that she will overcome this difficult period. So for me the article today was not surprising.
NGL, this guy isn't my favourite for obvious reasons, but I take my hat off to him for being supportive of Zhenya through the hard times. Particularly during 2018. I actually didn't know Layshev had said these things before, so good on him.

I really hope Zhenya can get better without surgery, she's so young!

Yeah I read it after I posted. :D

I guess the non-supportive ones ended up louder due to the media so I had essentially only seen those. But in general, I don't like that guy. :/

He can be a bit unusual. I'm not a fan of his either. But he has been outwardly more supportive of Zhenya than most people realize. Even when she was training and living in Canada.

Hopefully we'll see our video of her short program in a couple of weeks once practice is back to normal for Zhenya.

It's the sporting character, to fight, to overcome pain and nausea. To do it yourself, to show you want, you can and you will.

There would be no end to scandal if the coaching council votes her into Nationals at the expense of a qualified skater. Is she is added to the roster, no problem.

Zhenya showed fighting spirit when it mattered. Like, when she competed at the Olympics with a broken foot. Or at Worlds with an injured hip. It‘s still not ideal but at least those are events that MATTER. What matters in this odd season, exactly? The local Russian Cup? The GP series without a final and one competition already canceled? The only thing that should matter are the Nationals and then the big ISU competitions, if they even take place. But then, that‘s two months until then. If they didn‘t have their stupid rules, Zhenya (and other athletes in her position) could focus on healing and coming back strongly only when they‘re ready. This is what this season could be good for! Taking it easy when need be, healing persistent injuries and competing only when one is ready. But.. no. They have to force them to play the herores, the whole lot of them. What utter nonsense.

And really, that “sporting character“ cost RusFed half their team to injury and/or illness. And it made people like Sinitsyna try to compete until her knee literally gave out.

There should be no scandal whatsoever if Zhenya (or Danielian or Aliev or S/K or B/K or whoever else) get added to Nationals because they should simply revise their own rules. National team gets a bye to Nats, easy as that. If they want to compete at the Cups, fine, if not then not. Their placements; however, will not be included in the qualification, so whoever of the other skaters competes still gets the points. It would be pretty easy that way and that‘s a solution I came up with in minutes. It‘s not perfect in any shape or form but RusFed had literal months. They‘re just being greedy and stubborn, nothing else.

Imo, there‘s no excuse for how they‘ve handled the situation. It‘s careless and I cringe every time I hear ANOTHER skater/team being out due to virus infection or injury.

Perhaps this will all change when the 'contract system' is on place?

I doubt it, the life of a pro athlete has never been easy. No show, no money.

Yevgeniya made her choice apparently to start training. But we don't know what training, it could be simple sliding.

Best wait until she explains something herself. I'd really like to know what happened between Krasnoyarsk Russian Nationals, the Japan excursion and return to the Crystal Dome.

I don't want to start a fight here in the fan fest, but you should realise the character of the 'Rus' is different from ours. And one should never project his/her own cultural preferences/prejudices on others.

How can she be back to training already, if she‘s not even remotely healed? :(
Because RusFed still wants everyone to go to two Russian Cups, so far there were no rule changes announced. In the article about Zhenya going back to training it said that as long as Russia still demands two Cup she will prepare for that and will try to go to the two last Cups (if her injury allows her to). Her place on the National Team and a second GP assignment for next season can possibly be on the line (she has 1 GP guaranteed due to ISU rules) if she skips the Cups and Nationals, there will be more than 11 ladies fighting for the 6 main spots and 3 reserve spots. Russia is ruining their own athletes with this. I wonder how many athletes will survive this season. Their two top Ice Dance Teams are injured. Their three main pairs had and have CVD. If the injuries are permanent or may need surgery, like Sinitsina's knee may need, and affect performance severely, Russia can kiss their chances for medals at the Olympics goodbye, at least in Ice Dance. Two of their top men (Danielan and Samarin) are currently also injured and Samarin appeared with a fresh back injury this weekend and struggled and had to take out the Quads, because not even he can skip the Cups.
