Some of these I agree with (Tara and Johnny needing to shut up sometimes) but some of these are downright ridiculous.
 
Anastasiya Marasanova just scored 103.50 for her free skating run in Mosvkina Cup. Winning in her 1SP rank and 2009 age group:
3F, 3Lz, 2A+3T, CCoSp4, 3Lz<+2T (+10%), 3Lo< (+10%), 3S+2T+2Lo (+10%), LSp4, StSq3, FSSp3 (BV 49.76, GOE 2.14, PCS 51.60)
She might have wished to do a little better, but again was a little dynamite skating to "I'm a survivor".

Junior girls on the ice in Southern Breeze competition, Sof'ya Vazhnova, Sof'ya Azarova and Kseniya Gushchina hold the leading positions. There will be a tight competition since the top flight is ranked so close behind Vazhnova.

Yup, I've seen that article before. It's what I was referring to in saying that Zhelezhnyakov seems to think that he made a great contribution to the skaters' success. I agree that dance is important for cross-training, but as an addition to (not a substitute for) general physical conditioning. High-level skaters and even dancers themselves do conditioning (plyometrics, core work, cardio) to prevent injury. From what we see, the Tutberidze group is no exception (see backstage warmups at the last Russian Cup with off-ice jumps/skipping), so Zhelezhnyakov seems to be overstating his role a bit. It reminds me of Patrick Chan when he had Kathy Johnson (a modern dance teacher) as his main coach. Needless to say that wasn't sufficient.

I guess he's got vested interest in promoting his own commercial dance academy, and it seems PR is unavoidable with anyone involved in children's training, whether it be in skating or dance, so that's understandable. I admit to disliking him because he shares more opinions about skating with the media than some actual skating coaches (like Dudakov). E.g. on calling Trusova a traitor - I would actually understand if, say, Danny G said it, but hearing that from a physical trainer who doesn't even skate?

If by 'the competing rink' you mean AoP then yes, I've seen a few dance clips from them. They tend to post ballet/lyrical jazz/contemporary dance though, so it's hard to compare directly with Zhelezhnyakov's commercial dance. I can only judge the ballet, but have yet to see any skater (AoP or elsewhere) in off-ice ballet classes with proper turn-out of the standing leg, articulated feet and spotted turns. It's not necessary to train those aspects for skating, but I can imagine my ballet teacher facepalming at the sight :p
Cool as these videos are-and God knows Anna and Kamila and the rest have great dancing talent-I've never understood how this particular style of dance is helpful for figure skating. I've always just figured it was a diversion from training. In fact, much of the dance seems counter productive to figure skating. I would rather see more ballet-which I feel does more to strengthen the core, assist in posture and carriage etc.

Thanks to Vita for agreeing to answer a number of questions for our group.

- Vita, tell us, who gave you such an unusual name?
-- This name was given to me by my dad. Vita is Latin for "life".


- Your hairstyle stands out among the many curls and buns. How did you decide on a short haircut?
-- Honestly, even when I was younger, I really wanted short hair. I was very tired of constantly braiding and walking with a bun, my head ached after these hairpins. Therefore, at first it was a square cut, so that I could still tie it, and then I just decided on a very short haircut. My parents, however, were discouraged, but over time they got used to it.

- If it's not a secret, how tall are you? You look so tall on screen.
-- 170 cm

- What grade are you in? How do you combine study and figure skating? Where are you planning to enter?
-- Now I am a full-time student in grade 10, I go to school like everyone else. It is difficult to combine figure skating and school. I miss a lot due to competitions and training. Therefore, I am not studying as well as I could. But thank you very much to the teachers who meet me halfway and understand that this is important for me. I really want to go to Moscow into Moscow State University. I don't know how real this is, but it seems to me that I can handle it.

- Tell us in more detail about your programs for the current season, what images do you display in short / free programs?
- Both programs touch upon the theme of love. In my short, a girl breaks up with her young man, she thinks about whether it was a mistake, and finally says to him and to herself: “Look, I’m dancing well without you!”. The free is a different story. It has the Middle Ages, knights, wars, crusades. Tristan and Isolde fall in love and spend some time together, but then they kill him, and she goes on to take revenge. But after that it does not feel easier for her, and in the end she kills herself, just to be near her beloved. Two programs, two moods, two different endings.

- Which program do you like best?
-- Short. It has is a bold, playful image. It is closer to my real self.

- Have you ever performed for so many spectators? Did the audience help or weigh you down?
-- I have previously performed at stages, but in this way with the whole Megasport and thousands of other people online watching me - of course, for the first time. I thought that I couldn't cope with the excitement in front of so many spectators, but as soon as I went on the ice, I immediately realized that doubts were in vain. The hall was very supportive, and for me these emotions were completely different than at home starts in Omsk. It was not difficult to skate with the support of the audience.

- Let's talk a little about training conditions. How many hours of ice and general and special physical exercise and choreography do you have?
-- I have 10 hours of ice a week, 3 hours of choreography and the same amount of special PE. But the training schedule differs from the Moscow one - I have the first ice at 6:45 in the morning, then school, then I go to training again.

- Are you training in Omsk now?
-- Yes, in Omsk.

- Does the regional figure skating federation help you? What expenses does it cover?
-- The sports school helps with the purchase of sports equipment, skates. Also, money is returned for such starts as the Stages of the Russian Cup, the Students' Spartakiad, the Zone Championships.

- Where did you go to the training camp?
-- Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, preparations for the season were rather haphazard and by video link. This year my training camp took place in the yard (sometimes in our apartment) in front of a laptop screen. Quarantine, of course, changed my plans a lot.

- An interesting point: you used to skate together with Aleksandr Ryobrik, and now you are back in single skating. In connection with what?
-- I moved back to singles due to a huge growth spurt - I was 146, and then I became 170. I couldn't find a partner for my height, so I returned.

- And what are the difficulties and peculiarities for you personally, both in singles and pairs.
-- In pairs it was not easy to accept the fact that someone was skating next to you. At first it is difficult to do everything in parallel and synchronously, but over time you get used to it.

- Now there is just a race after ultra-si race in the women, they try to jump and successfully execute triple Axels and quadruple jumps. If you dared, which jump would you try first, perhaps you already had attempts?
-- I would like to try quadruple Toeloops.

- At what stage will we see you again?
-- I have declared the 4th Stage of the Russian Cup in Kazan, but due to the new wave of coronavirus, participation in the competition is still in question.

Sof'ya Vazhnova, despite some errors, kept her lead in the Southern Breeze competition:

Kseniya Gushchina had almost exactly the same errors here as in her free program in the second stage of Russian Cup.
Hopefully, Kseniya will be able to improve coming weekend in her starts in the third stage, here in Sochi.
I'd like to see a girl from the regions like her in the national finals.

As will So'fya and the other contestants who are scheduled. They'll have ample training opportunity before the Cup contestants arrive.

In the meantime, the athletes can enjoy some fresh sea breeze, perhaps even a dip in the Black Sea, or breathe some clean mountain air which is plentiful in this area.

I think they move in a way that is intended to warm up their bodies and all body parts, and try some weird moves in order to teach your body a bigger diversity of movements in general. I might be wrong, but that's my impression of these modern dances.
 
Sigh... some of my faves now have to compete in the last two cups back to back just to qualify:
Gubanova, Tarakanova, Sinitsyna, Medvedeva and Kostornaia
I just hope they are healthy and able to compete
Also, I think Serafimah will have to compete in the last two as well....
To qualify for what? If you mean Russnats, GP participants should have free pass, shouldn't they? Even thought this season it's rather theoretical GP participants...
 
With the possibility of cancellation of Worlds and other major competitions this season, there's no point to rush. I hope she can get it back soon, but if not, there is time. And most importantly, she stays healthy and happy.
the question is if other skaters have their quads back and are in good form like Anna and Sasha why doesn't aliona have her triple axel back? If she was say five or six pounds heavier from puberty for not being able to train properly in the offseason would that kill her 3A?

But at this point you are correct Ali there is no reason to kill yourself to get your jumps back in this abbreviated mass of a season. But that Leona went to PA specifically for young Sergei and his coaching ability so I want to see her 3A back.
 
You should read the article. They suggest they might cut down on staff, for instance, and are yet undecided if they want a full audience.

ETA: But they also add they don't yet know what the travel restrictions will allow.
who other than athletes is going to want to go to an Olympic city in the near future where there are hundreds of thousands of travelers from other cities or countries bringing God knows what kind of germs from where they came to the Olympic host City? Not I.

I hope they make the Olympics happen because coronavirus is not just going to go away in the next few months. It's not like H 1 H1 N1 10 years ago this is much worse.
 
Analysis of Trusova's jumps, almost frame-by-frame by AlexNew

"I made a comparative timeline of Trusova's Toeloops at Tutberidze's and Plyushchenko's. I did not notice any obvious differences in the technique of performing this Toeloop, in particular, I did not notice a pronounced change in the entrance into the grouping. In fact, in the same frames on this timeline, the position of the body is approximately the same. So Plyushchenko's words about correcting the technique are questionable.

A lot of interesting information can be found in the analysis of the timing of the free programs of the last season and the current. The new program consists of 3 parts. Two fast ones and one slow one. So the first fast part exactly corresponds to the timing of the first part of last year's program. In both cases, the first part ends with a CCoSp4 rotation, which starts exactly 1.20 after the start of the program. The difficult approach from the counter has been preserved into the rotation, but the rotation itself has been slightly changed. If we analyze the arrangement of jumps in as a whole, then 4 jumps, of which 3 are quads and one is an Axel or a cascade with it, in the old program exactly corresponds to 4 jumps, of which 3 quads and one an Axel in the new program. Also, the approaches to the first two quads, heavily loaded with elements, are preserved. Moreover, the entry to the Toeloop was taken exactly from the last program, only there it was on the 4T + 1Eu + 3S cascade in the second half and one step less, the entry to the second Toeloop is essentially the same, only this time it is completely empty - all elements are removed, and the number of steps has increased significantly. That is, we managed to keep the timing of the first part, but gave away the connecting elements ...

In part 1 the elements themselves are entirely taken from her past programs, in particular from last year's. The sequences themselves, of course, differ, but the set of expressive means is identical, only it has become simpler, including in terms of connections. Up to the third quad, we see 1 rocker, 1 bracket turn, 6 choctaws and 7 triplets in the program. In last year's variation in the Grand Prix finals, there were 3 rockers, 1 counter, 4 choctaws, 3 triplets in this part. As you can see, the number of complex one-footed turns has decreased, and the number of simple triplets and choctaws (in this performance, these are like simple steps, one might say) has increased. Interesting entries have also disappeared, such as a rocker as entry into the camel spin. But in general, the entire first part, both in tempo and in arrangement and in expressive means and in technique of execution, is a light version of last year's program.

But I would like to point out another interesting feature of Trusova's new program. In her previous program, the step sequence started at 3.18, before the sequence there was a spin at 3.00. That is, up to 3.00 she had room to maneuver and for redistribution of jumps in the second part of the program. We remember that the second part begins strictly in accordance with the timing of last year's program. But in her new program, the sequence eats up much more time, and the nature of the layout is such that it is absolutely unthinkable to move it forwards - this is tantamount to staging a new program with a different cut. So in the new program the sequence starts at 3.04. That is, the skater has been robbed of 14 seconds, which could have been spent on jumping. This is just enough to do another quad. Such timing suggests that Plyushchenko, unlikely, was seriously going to increase the number of quads when he staged this program ..."
