Alena Kostornaia

I did check PCS a bit and I'm angry.
Was there an international panel I was unaware of?

No, just not an Eteri panel
I did not want to be so polemic, but she had 36.02 at EU last year and 38.15 at national with a domestic panel.
No she's getting 2 full point less that that while some other girls receive their best scores ever (even compared to past domestic).

Compare with above (last year nationals)
38.31
9.54
9.46
9.68

Not just their best scores ever but getting those scores with pretty egregious mistakes.

Even in GOE ... because that axel and that flip is textbook.. when she landed the jumps it's so smooth in slow motion
but they've been lenient on the combo imo, I would give 0 and just because the flip was terrific.
2A and 3Lz seem to have good (and well deserved GOE)

Her landing is like a caress to the ice btw. 🤩

I did collect the data of what I was saying before to post in the Russian Ladies 3D. I repost it here, hoping it is more clear.

Aliona's PCS Scoring in SP

Looks like there was an international panel today.
All that while some other girls are scoring in this competition better that they ever had even with a domestic panel (meaning it's not true that judges are strict)

Now: i want you to leave skaters comparisons aside and concentrate on Aliona SS.
Skating skill is a very specific PCS category (you can see a definition Here )
It's execution of basic skills close to perfection but you either have flow or not, you either know how to accelerate effortlessy with you crossover or no, you either go deep with your age and turn with perfect flawless footwork or not.

9.54 vs 9.05 is over 5% difference or 2 steps in the voting scale that goes in .25 increments.
The same panel who judged her the best in the world in basic skills 10 months agois now looking at an awkard skater.
This does not make sense to me.

Not her best day, but more than anything it was such a joy to see Aliona so happy in the KnC. I haven't seen her so bubbly and upbeat with her coaches since her first junior international season. I imagine these skaters feel frustrated enough with themselves over mistakes. Knowing that she isn't going to be berated by her coaches for not being perfect seems to have really helped her feel more relaxed.

My immediate impression was that her body had transformed, bigger now yet still lean and cat like. Her artistry is beautiful like always yet more refined. This is not some wind-up skater but a true artist intent on breaking new ground and evoking a response...

I know it’s early but my Beijing medalist picks: Aliona, Rika and Anna.

She looks more athletic now, I think. Fit, but a bit more muscular.

The dress is beautiful and worthy of Billie Eillish but is a bit heavy looking on Aliona.. needs to be scaled back just a tad removing some of the material here and there so it compliments her tiny frame and flows around her..
the program is smashing!! Not worried in the slightest about the glitches..

I just saw the interview.
The only word I undestood was "DA" but I stayed until the last word

I'm an idiot I know
Well, that makes us two idiots because I did the same.

but here‘s a translation to her interview (s?).

Love to see her laugh.

But judging by the first interview, it‘s not even sure she‘ll attempt the 3A tomorrow. Apparently she‘s only been training it for 3 days. I think it‘s safer to just drop it for now, then, it’s not worth risking injury for a simple Russian Cup. A Silver (or a Bronze, if Maiia lands the quad) means nothing in the grand scheme of things. What matters here is experiencing what it‘s like to compete again and qualifying to Nationals.

so it seems she recently got it back but it’s not stable:( but yeah agree she shouldn’t try it tomorrow

I think the skirt material needs refinement. However I love that the dress also informs the story. The red heart, (blue in the anatomical spots where it is blue in the body, no doubt on Aliona’s insistence 🤣) with the jagged electric lines running to it, as if someone were shocking her back to life. Truly without the music, you would see a story of resurrection.
