Alena Kostornaia

I wonder if she will attempt a 4S today... she jumped several 3S yesterday in practice, that and the huge 3S they posted...... well, we shall see?

I think the skirt material needs refinement. However I love that the dress also informs the story. The red heart, (blue in the anatomical spots where it is blue in the body, no doubt on Aliona’s insistence 🤣) with the jagged electric lines running to it, as if someone were shocking her back to life. Truly without the music, you would see a story of resurrection.

I think they’re working on it... but likely won’t get revealed at least until next competition. Her jumps are massive and so soft, and she doesn’t usually favor the sal does she? Would be brilliant to not get word on the 3A only to hear she has a 4S that was never revealed but I don’t think it’s an expectation for this competition.

Well, that makes us two idiots because I did the same.

but here‘s a translation to her interview (s?).

Love to see her laugh.

But judging by the first interview, it‘s not even sure she‘ll attempt the 3A tomorrow. Apparently she‘s only been training it for 3 days. I think it‘s safer to just drop it for now, then, it’s not worth risking injury for a simple Russian Cup. A Silver (or a Bronze, if Maiia lands the quad) means nothing in the grand scheme of things. What matters here is experiencing what it‘s like to compete again and qualifying to Nationals.
And here's the third idiot! I always watch my favs' interviews even if I don't underdstand a word... I really like to see their gestures, body language, also to hear the tone of their voices, see what mood they're in etc.
And what I really like to watch are the behind the scenes videos and fancams, which let us have a look at what they're like when they're not in the limelight. 😊

A great photo of Aliona from yesterday's SP

Looking at her flip .. that could be a 4 to.. to be honest almost all kostornaia's jumps are so perfect that it's impossible that she doesn't practice a 4 .. she complete the rotation in the air and them landing .. so I agree for her probably is mental not the technic .. and when she presents a jump that must be perfect

I may be wrong, but i don't account Aliona for a "bladder" turning speed.
She power jumps with minimal pre rotation.
That's what makes her jumps so beautiful: it's like time and gravity take a little break to allow her to float and regally turn as she pleases.
For a quad she probably needs to work on taking more out of her big airtime and I'm sure thei're doing it.

That's probably my fav shot too.
Noone else can match that powerful expression.
Dosn't she look like a dragon or a bird of prey to you?

btw I've not been entirely honest about the interview: I also understood "Sasha" :ROFLMAO:

Congrats to Aliona on a perfectly clean skate (minus the little stumble)!! :cheer2:
She was able to correct the mistakes from the SP--the 3F+3T combo and the Biellman--and she did the other jumps beautifully.

I'm glad they didn't attempt the 3A if it's still not stable. I was rather alarmed when I read that she broke her boots on a bad fall from a 3A--definitely don't want that to happen in the competition!

She looked lovely in her pink dress, but the program still seems a bit empty to me. Her step sequence was only called a level 2 (unless they changed it afterwards), so they definitely need to work on that.

Overall, though, not bad at all for her first outing of the season!! Congrats on your silver medal!!

For a first competitive outing in ... nearly a year, that was pretty good! The StSq looked like she ran out of puff, but she managed to land her jumps. Once she's more comfortable with the programme, I think it will be a lovely piece, that plays up her lyrical strengths.

The program itself I feel is kind of empty, and I hope they will add to it over time. It's still better than any FP she's had in the past couple of years imo. It didn't seem like she was 100% ready, but even so, it was a beautiful performance with a lot of potential. Her jumps look great, especially the loop. Her new Biellmann variation is really weird though, and she should really drop it. It's failed her 2/2 times now, and there was nothing wrong with her Biellmann from before.

I guess she felt like she needed to have more of a Lipnitskaya-type candle Biellmann to compete with skaters like Kamila...?
But I agree--at the moment it looks kind of awkward. Even if her previous Biellmann didn't show as much flexibility, she was generally able to get into position smoothly. Maybe it just needs more practice... I do love the new I-spin though!

What's up with her spins? is it because of her back injury?
However her flow out of her jumps is amazing  I'm happy she landed everything. I'm sure the prgramm will look better next time!:)

well i think both programs needs training to be on the level of kostornaia .. if we think she only got this program in september maybe october .. she only really training for max. of 2 month .. if you compare to other skaters
But she needs her 3A to compete for 1... maybe even a 4

That's probably my fav shot too.
