2020-21 Russian Pairs' figure skating

Akhant'yeva and Kolesov will compete in the GP stage:

So if Vasilieva/Volodin were able to get to the Russian cup and get initially assigned to Panin Memorial, then surely Vislobokova/Ialin with their triple twist would be allowed to compete at stage 4 and 5 to try and qualify for nationals if they really wanted to, yes?

Truly a bloodbath with all these risen soldiers. I'm not too sure Boikova/Kozlovski will come out on top. Kozlovski, Galliamov, and Morozov probably all lost some strength with their illness and isolation, and Rylov has had some personal issues too. I am also very intrigued to see what will happen with Panfilova/Rylov because it seems that Polina grew a little over quarantine, and we all know that their height difference is not large.

I also posted in K/I's thread but I was wondering, does anyone have a video of Kostiukovich/Ialin's free from Russian Cup FInal last year? She is my absolutely favorite, if you couldn't tell and I heard it was good. Also wanted to see their last performance together

I had a bad feeling about P/R when they were posting in Perm instead of Kazan. I wonder what is going on, and who will be sent to Rostelecom in their place.

RIP Igor Moskvin, truly an icon of the sport.

well... the 3 skate very well.

I think Lady M. was a genious when she gave this program to M/G. The program of B/D is more delicate ... so needs more time.
And I love the bolero of T/M .. that when skate well is magnificente

I may be unpopular in saying this, but I think Mishina/Galliamov will become the top team either this season or next. Moskvina is a genius. I loved M/G and their programs under the Velikova, I even liked some of the MiMi (Mishina/Mirzoev) programs. But sometimes they are either hit or miss. Ex: A/K Pink Floyd vs K/I Sarabande Suite. I wonder what it is about Mishina/Galliamov that they always wear red. But it looks good. Galliamov has been recovered longer than Kozlovskii, so maybe he will be better in the free. T/M are also quite good. They have a classic elegance to them.

But can we take a minute to talk about Vasilieva/Volodin? I was not sure how far they could go, as Vasilieva is a great jumper and Volodin is not. And she is new to pairs. I expected some progress when they signed up here, but I did not expect this. Triple twist, triple throw, great lift and death spiral, great synchronization and good chemistry for such a new team with large age difference. I also was skeptical of Vika's decision to come to pairs, but it seems that she is proving me wrong. Volodin struggled with 3S adn 3T with Sobinina (anyone know where she is?) and just to match Vika, he learned 3F. My favorite part was her reaction at the end. And how happy she looked. It was probably very hard for her to get here in such short time.

I'm still afraid to get invested because of Volodin's habits of changing partners every year, but this is amazing! It just goes to show that no matter how good the foundation is, having a partner experienced in pairs goes a great way. Compare this to Kostyuk/Rud, who can both jump 3-3, but are new to pairs, and have been training twice as long as V/V.

All three top pairs skated like for their life today. In the end there is less than a point difference between the first and third, so it will be hell of a battle tomorrow.
This was wow! I enjoyed all three programmes. I hope the guys hold out in the FS. They've all three suffered from Covid-19 and from the people I know who have also, it's the tiredness that's the symptom that stays on for longer than anything else. One of my friends still is suffering from that, and she didn't have the heaviest symptoms at the time she was diagnosed. Fingers crossed they do well and the contest will be as spectacular as this short!

That is one of the challenges for sure. I am surprised that they all got back so fast. But good to see that Moskvina is wearing a mask properly.

B/D were perfect, not sure how you can even improve on that program. But M/G-I want to see that program over and over and over again. I doubt I will ever get tired of it. Every move, every flourish-the huge beautiful throw. Just a slight issue with the snyc on the SBS spins, but even that was cool with the butterfly entrance. Tiny touches-like his lunges make the M/G program one for the ages.

I will admit I know basically nothing of Volodin but I think they show great potential. Especially considering Vasilieva has only been doing pairs for 6months ish and quarantine happened in the middle of that.

Individual jumps look great (hers more than him maybe but still)
Lifts look really good once they are in the air but a bit tentative beforhand
Twist great even if they need to raise the difficult and get 3Tw4 in the future
Side by side spinns good
Generall stroking and Skating good
Deathspiral decent but not great position on her part
Pairs spin not so good. This one was quite painful to watch today.
Throws look great in the air but she seems to have problem checking jumps with so much extra height.

Overall Im exited about where this is heading and I dont think its totaly unrealistic for them to make nationals if they show improvements for the 5th stage.

Volodin has had about a million partners. I still don't know what happened to Taisia Sobinina, I thought she had potential too, considering she just learnt skating from acrobatics. I think V/V are looking great. He may have had thousands of partners, but he is experienced and a good partner. She learnt pairs in such a short time. Anastasia Kostyuk went to pairs almost a year ago, got Andrei Rud who is good and has 3-3 but not experienced in pairs. And by now they only have single twist, double throws, and no change position lifts. It will be hard for them to make nationals, but this is the first of many years, hopefully. Nikita, don't dump her.

1. Anastasia Mishina/Alexandr Galliamov
2. Evgenia Tarasova/Vladimir Morozov
3. Aleksandra Boikova/Dmitrii Kozlovskii
4. Yasmina Kadyrova/Ivan Balchenko
5. Karina Akopova/Nikita Rakhmanin
6. Alina Pepeleva/Roman Pleshkov
7. Viktoria Vasilieva/Nikita Volodin
8. Alina Solovieva/Elisei Ivanov - they withdrew apparently after the horrendous fall in the short.

It's so impressive how well Galliamov can throw Mishina, as she is very tall and curvaceous, not the typical body for a pairs girl. Very high GOE on their twist. And they are also amazing jumpers. I wonder if M/G, P/K or B/K have ever considered 3-3-2 or 3Lz/3F/3Lo. I know Mishina used to do 3T+3T+2T with her old partner, but looks like Galliamov could do it also.

M/G were fantastic. But of course the other two pairs will also put up a fight when they skate clean— although it’s been a long time since we’ve seen T/M skating clean.
I wonder if Nastia and Sasha are still training their triple lutz. It would be a good addition to their programs, and it might give them a better edge against a clean B/K.

Another wow in my view. Those sliding moves by M/G are really fantastic, and it's been a while since I saw that level of SBS jumps. T/M have a beautiful programme, small mishap from Vladimir, but that will improve I'm sure. Unbelievable when you compare this to that awful candyman programme from 2018. And B/K have a great programme, but some mistakes on the throws alas. Still, all three were great. Very impressed by all three, and wonderful that the guys good keep it up! Please Tamara, wear your mask.
