Yes, this is what I was writing about. I edited my post to make it more clear. I disagree about Maya though. I don't think that they'll keep anybody at juniors, because of the olympic season and also because why would they make Maya block the paths of some, quite frankly, more talented juniors getting some vital international experience. For JGP spots next season there are usualy spots for about 8 skaters
Sofia A, Sofia S, Liza B, Adelya and Veronika Z should be a given.
I would not be surprised if Maya stays in junior another season but we will see.
That leaves 2-3 spots and at the moment its probably Osokina, Muravieva, Gorbachyova and Zakharova who are the top contenders for those spots. There is of course lots of time left until any decisions can be made and a lot of things can change until then
Yeah, I don't think Maya will have any reason to stay in juniors after such good results among seniors at Russian Cup...Yes, this is what I was writing about. I edited my post to make it more clear. Oh, that's because Russian Alexandras are nicknamed "Sasha", same logic involvedBtw why are Russian Sofias nicknamed "Sonia"? I've seen Samodurova called Sonia, too.

My reason for thinking Maiia might stay in juniors is that if we look towards Gps there are 9 spots If we look at Russian Cup I would say Maiia is 7th behindYeah, I don't think Maya will have any reason to stay in juniors after such good results among seniors at Russian Cup...
Great list. But Sofia is blowing out the field! So for junior Nationals I think it was said that the junior skaters that compete in the senior cup would get to Junior nats as well so that would be Valieva, Usasheva and Kromych. (Thechnicaly Frolova and Tarakanova have also skated junior last season but I dont think there is anything in it for them to go here and be beaten by the likes of Sofia A, Sofia S and Liza B).
I also expect RusFed to find a way to sub Sofia S in. I think she is part of the junior team (or is it novice) and it would be really unfortunate if one of the medal contenders missed the event due to a verry ill timed injury right before the qualification...
Then there is 14 spots left to be grabbed in the junior cup
Standings in the Junior cup:
1 Akatieva, 36pts , 462,28 tot score
2 Beretsovskaya, 34pts, 406,61
3 Zakharova, 30pts, 373,88
4 Ovchinnikova, 28pts, 377,28
5 Paramonova, 24pts, 362,49
6 Sviridenka, 20pts, 348,41
7 Petrosyan, 18pts, 207,18
8 Lagutova, 18pts, 349,11
9 Zhilina, 16pts, 197,45
10 Dimitrieva, 16pts, 339,93
11 Muravieva, 16pts, 199,10 (Withdrew today. Can she make it up at 5th stage?)
12 Gorbachyova, 14pts, 193,68
13 Sadkova, 14pts, 341,99
14 Osokina, 12pts, 182,28
15 Morosova, 12pts, 171,10
16 Liventseva, 8pts, 168,66
17 Latushkina, 8pts, 156,65
18 Lobodoba, 6pts, 168,36
Skaters marked in bold are the ones that only have one result and should have a chance to perform at the last stage. If we assume all of the ones that I marked bold competes at the last stage and scores there I expect the cut of to be at either 18pts or 16pts
Yes Sofia has relly been in a leegue of her own. Thats why its such a shame that Sofia S didnt compete here since she is probably the only one that could have echallenged her. The fight between Sofia and Kamilla for gold at junior nats will be verry exiting to watch.Great list. But Sofia is blowing out the field!
Adelina 2014? The Federation kept her away from Worlds and she certainly could have medalled there even coming off an Olympic high and obviously there was never another worlds for her. That brings me to your point take the opportunity when you can. It's doubtful whether Worlds will happen this season, but if they don't and they do take place next season, I doubt anyone would skip it after the Olympics. None of the "top" eligible skaters, Alena/Anna/Sasha/Kamila/Daria/Maiia have been to Worlds. And even if either Liza or Evgenia are sent to the Olympics, they haven't had a world title in years as well. I think it's safe to say whoever is sent to the Olympics will also go to Worlds, unless the fed decides to sub them out. This field is so tough that I don't think anyone will willingly give up their spot knowing how difficult it is to get.
It's a standard diminutive.Btw why are Russian Sofias nicknamed "Sonia"? I've seen Samodurova called Sonia, too.
I was surprised Sofia won by such a huge score around 35 points over Veronika. Is Sofia already getting the Kamila treatment for scoring too high?Sonia's 4Ts have improved so much, they looked so light and easy, and she did rippon on both. Quite impressive, a well deserved win!
Good 2 skates from Alina, even claiming silver in the FS. She needs F-T or Lz-T going forward, but she did really well nevertheless.
Brave Nika went for 2 quads as well, and I assume her first 2A is meant to become 3A at some point. Shame about the mistakes here and there, but good job overall!
Not to speculate again, but Osokina seemed very hesitant on spins, hence I am still getting an impression of an injury.
I like both Sofia and Veronika but Sofia ia almost a full year older and it shows. Veronika has great jumps and spinns but the skating and performance is far behind Sofia. She is much slower and has nowhere near as good edges in her StSq for example. Also Veronika fell on her 2nd 4T didnt perform 3A (either in short and free) and had her own problems with her combos in the 2nd halfI was surprised Sofia won by such a huge score around 35 points over Veronika. Both Sofia and Veronika are super special and have Superstar potentia. They are both sponsors dreams too. Let's just hope they get better and mature at a normal rate the next couple years because thev2026 Olympics are a long way off. Plus the age change that is finally coming is going to mean they won't be at Europeans and Worlds at 15 and 16. Sad. These two are going to be Juniors for like 4 or 5 years. smh. Kamila must realize how lucky she is skating in big events being eligible for the Olympics in 2022 at 15. Being born at the right time matters.
Not only an injury, but I read somewhere they lost their ice-nowhere to practice. I assume now they have ice back. As far as Sofia, I've never seen anyone do quads and a triple axel with such ease. Looks more like a triple toe and double axel.Sonia's 4Ts have improved so much, they looked so light and easy, and she did rippon on both. Quite impressive, a well deserved win!

Sasha comes from the Russian habit of adding -sha as a diminutive to names. So Aleksandra -> Aleksasha -> Sasha.Oh, that's because Russian Alexandras are nicknamed "Sasha", same logic involved
Why Bob for Robert or Bill for William, though, while we're at it?![]()
Excellent analysis. I just think we should be amazed that so many junior and senior ladies are in as good a from as they are in considering they had disastrous offseasons for training thanks to covid.I like both Sofia and Veronika but Sofia ia almost a full year older and it shows.
