Alena Kostornaia

Good luck to the best Russian lady ❤️ wishing my favorite two perfectly clean skates and of course the gold 🥇

also, there was a clip going around instagram yesterday of a 3A attempt. it's definitely getting there, i can tell she's still working on getting the snap back. here it is on youtube.

until she gets in back in her programs, are there other realistic ways she can max her layout? is she able to do loop combos? i'm thinking of maxing her layouts without a 3A/quad like Alina with lutz loops. although, her toe combos are money so i'm not sure if the GOE she gets on it would end up being the same points as a flip loop or lutz loop with lesser GOE.

I don't think it would make sense to work on something weaker that will not be enough considerer what rivals will bring.
The race is for end season -> next year.
Without ultra-C you can't compete anymore in Russia.
She could get a bronze without entering in the race for gold, but I don't think it would interest her.

i don't think she'd be interested either and i only meant until she gets the axel back consistent, but i don't think she would be uncompetitive in Russia with the same layout and difficulty Alina had. i think if Alina came back at the level she used to be, podiums would definitely not be out of the question, although i definitely would not expect many wins. with ultra si comes more risk, and those who compete quads aren't going to hit and be perfect every time as we have seen in the last year. but that's a topic probably for RLT.

Some immediate observations:
1) her eyes are out of this word
2) trixel apart, the quality of her elements is not there yet, and I think that's like a signal for her form status. When she's at ther best every element is superb
3) speed and flow seemed better than two week ago. good sign
4) SS3 again. Aliona should not do less than SS4. Let's get it back.
5) here eyes are out of this world.

Anyway she seems on the right track.

Her SP has really grown on me now that it's more polished. And I love the dress though this seems an unpopular opinion? Anyway, I think she's on a good track and it's a good thing she's taking her time and not rushing to add back the 3A. :)

Her short program was great today! I think the step sequence was a little better at the Russian Cup in terms of timing, but the spins looked so much better. Love the new i-spin position she has this year (and biellmann).

Yay! She‘s still unbeaten in the SP. Not for long, with Kamila‘s 3A at the next stage but it‘s an impressive record for her.

The performance was much better technically. Better spins, better jumps (though they still all look off other than the 2A) and better steps. (still lost a level, though) It‘s obvious she‘s not back yet, by the way she looked overall, not that much of a presentation. She can do better than that and we all know it. But for now she did her job and that‘s all that matters.

Without the 3A (she isn‘t planning one for tomorrow) she won‘t win Gold, so her focus should be on staying completely clean so that she gets the silver. Liza is dangerous with a quad and a 3A but Aliona has the overall quality: she just needs to deliver a beautiful performance to have a chance.

It‘s a process and she‘s getting there - some things just take time and this season, it‘s acceptable to take it. She knows it too. Davai, Aliona!!! :cheer:
