Anna was competing with a fever! She refused to take her temperature before the FS and authorities, coaches and parents let her get away with it even though she could have potentially aggravated her condition after the SP. Does having a fever of 38 — that became the "norm“ for her for an entire month — sound like the illness is gone to you??
And Liza didn’t look healthy either, for that matter.
Sorry but this was recklessness on all accounts. And after the high from that admittedly very enjoyable competition is over, I am more horrified than ever.

Aw, that makes me sad. I so want those three as the Olympic team but I realise that the chances for that happening is close to nil.
I was looking forward to watching their rivalry for years to come, every one of them so special in their own way, constantly trading places on the podium, only losing to each other. It could have been a rivalry for the ages! (sort of like the Russian version of the legendary Kim—Asada—Kostner trio) But alas, on comes the new generation... Valieva, Akatieva, Samodelkina. Forgive me for sounding so grim but for me (I know others feel the opposite way and that’s okay) it‘s just a little depressing that, at 15, you’re the best of the best but one to two years later there’s already someone younger and more "special“ than you. I realise it’s been like that for quite some time but after a while, it goes from exciting to tiresome.

This is par for the course that the Russian fed changes the rules midway through, but they have always used the Cup final as a secondary event for team selection especially when the top finishing seniors at Nationals are not the ideal candidates in the Feds mind for worlds.

I do not get why people are upset over Anna's national title. I mean she can have all the national titles. At the same time she has never won anything important internationally - Alyona is a GPF champion, a JGPF champion and an European champion. Sasha is a two time Junior World champion and a JGPF champion. Anna has zero such titles.

Personally I thought if KV went ahead of Sasha then Anna would be puled. I thought that would have happened. But Anna skated right after Kamila so there was really no time to do that. And that would have pissed off Anna and do they want to do that so soon after phenoms Sasha and Alena just left TT shocking the figure ksating world? Nope.
As it turned out Anna was feeling better than before the SP and she was flyng in the free skate and skated the best she ever has. Athletes have a super inner quality that we regular people cannot relate to. If Annas temperture was 99 or 100 thats a slight temperature and athletes compete with that and worse all the time. Yes I know its a covid world now. But ahtletes are wired differently.
Anyas parents and coaches wanted her to withdraw before the SP. That would have been the prudent thing to do, But Anna is her own boss and fought for herself and won. Then she won Rusnats for the natural rusmats hat trick if you will..

But NN there were was no worlds last year and no worlds this year most likely.
Rusnats is bigger than everything but worlds and olympics. Euros mediocrity cannot touch what ladies rusnats has done for years. Top 10 Russian ladies are berter than what euros has.
Yesterdays ladies rusnats has 3 winners Anna Kamila and Sasha just like the Sochi olympics 3 winners Adelina Yuna and Caro and the PC olympics 3 winners AlIna Zhenya and Osmond. No losers only winners in my opinion.
The fed could have backed up rusnats to give some athletes more time. . But they chose not to. It turned out to be a great event. A dramatic event. A historic event.

International titles are much more important. In the end no one would count or care about any national titles.
At least Kamila has not cemented her supposedly first place even though TT advertised her so bad. She was second at Nationals, second at her first Cup of Russia event and first at her other Cup of Russia event where she had zero competition. I really want to see Alyona at Olympics, but there too many quad girls...

Some countries might not send skaters to Bejiing because of concerns about covid so that could open the door for a couple countries to get more skaters than normal. So 3A going plus KV and Zhenya is more possible than you think.
If Aliona gets her 3A back she will score huge. I mean if she was last seasons AK she would have score between 240 and 260 yesterday in my opinion.
By the way I dont see a way to delete messages. Does anyone know how I can delete messages? Or do I just open a new folder? Thanks in advance.

That's not new. They said beforehand that RusNats would not be the sole determiner of Worlds. That was the case as soon as Aliona (and others in other disciplines) withdrew.

one of the clearest victory ever.
Scoring was not even necessary: she got out of the final pose and you knew she was the winner, like Aliona at GPF last year.
Both performances where so ravishing that the score was a formality, no matter the point difference (big or small).
Sometimes you really don't need to count because your hearth and soul scream "She's the one! The night is hers!".
Should the score disagree it would just mean the system is wrong.

She got 3rd here or where there other 3rd place winners who were center stage?? (She also got 3rd at nationals, GPF, and Euros last year.)

Dont count Aliona out. This season is a wash but if she gets through puberty and your favorite coach helps her get the best 3A ever back watch out!
Kamila really has some of Sasha and Aliona in her. But the Fed and TT are pushing her this abnormal season and I understand why. But I am sure Anna did not want to have KV win Rusnats. She sees KV getting a big push and she saw Sasha get the big push and she saw Aliona get the big push last season. Anna sits back and watches everything like big pushes and drama from phenoms and greats leaving TT and is like yesterday hello world I am still here. Remember me? Then skated the best skate of her life. It was unbelievable.

You know, there was half a second there where it looked like you might actually say something nice for once.
But @Fluture, this is how it works in every sport at the highest level. I follow most winter sports and this happens all the time. People competing with injures, having a cold, having a fever.
Is it crazy? Yes. Do they do it anyway? Yes.
As an Austrian I'm sure you know all about Alpine skiing. The sport has become so dangerous that EVERY competitor sometime in their careers have fractures, knee surgeries etc. And don't get me started on the Downhill discipline where you more or less risk your life just by participating.
It's a crazy atmosphere in all these sports. I'm not saying we have to accept it, but as a sports fan you have to realize this is inevitable. Athletes pushes themselves all the time and take more risks all the time - because they want to be the best. That's the reality in sports. And if they don't push, someone else will gladly take their place, and they know it.
