Jason Brown | Page 816 | Golden Skate

Jason Brown

for some reason, my computer security software thinks that photo is on a malicious site. I saw the photo. I have no idea what it thinks the site is. I couldn't find it on fan zone.
You don't see in on the fanzone link? It's about halfway down the page after the competition schedule and right after the Fantasy Skating thing. It's no biggie, just thought it was a cute pic.

It's a great photo! I'll try to find it again. Any smiling photo of Jason improves my day! I wish we knew what his travel plans are, but we'll see him when he gets there.

Just finished reading that. Sadly, it's what I was afraid of when I realized that neither Yuzu, Jun nor Zhenya would be back at the rink. He's skating daily with much younger, much less skilled kids and he has no social life. I would be shocked if this hadn't happened. Apparently Yuzu went through something similar this year also, but Nationals revived him. US Nationals won't be the same this year. Two people to the table in the dining room, single rooms, little opportunity to hang out with friends, but at least he'll have a goal, to skate well at Nats. I'm glad he'll have time to see his family after the competition ends. What a year it's been. It can sap the optimism of the most optimistic, as Jason has found out. I hope they can all get vaccinated and have World's. And I want Jason to make the team. I hope he can overcome this. It's not easy at all!

I'm kinda not surprised - I think people the world over have had their lives disrupted and reduced down to work, sleep, repeat (I know I have). It's especially sad to hear it from Jason, who has always seemed so eternally optimistic, it almost makes it more shocking. However it does seem like he's been able to get some acceptance of the situation and adapt to a new perspective (though this is made harder by the ever changing circumstances). But it seems like Tracy really understands Jason and is a good support for him - I'm glad he's in an environment where there is great support for skater welfare. I think Nats will be interesting - I do think it's good that they're not putting too much expectation on how well he should skate as they just don't know.

However, outside the sad bits there's a few things from the article I'd love to highlight!
Like this quote from David Wilson
“There have been moments in his training so brilliant that Brian looks at me with tears in his eyes,” Wilson said."
This is such high praise for Jason, especially when he has spoken of wanting to impress Brian so...

“It (what Wilson referred to) was just one of those `jaw dropping’ moments where you realize how great he is,” Orser said. “He keeps reinventing himself – new movements, transitions, entries to elements.
“I found myself saying, `Wow!’ over and over. Not just one day, but most days. The only other person who has made me react this way is Yuzu (two-time Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan, whom Orser also coaches.) Jason is a skater’s skater.”

I literally want to plaster this quote everywhere lmao.

Also,
Jason is keeping Sinnerman for next season! I think it'll make an excellent Olympic short programme!

I believe the references to "Wilson" in your excerpts both are to Tracy Wilson, not David Wilson.

The article's first mention of David Wilson (by his first and last names) does not come until after those quotes.

Agree. I'm sure they all have been looking forward to a reunion.

Brian woke up to Jason's potential that year he did the French Grand Prix. Jason has been opening Brian's eyes wider and wider ever since. When Jason and Yuzu and Zhenya and Jun skated together, they drove each other to do more. That's missing for all of them now. And it's questionable whether Zhenya will be doing much competing in the future. But Yuzu's first competition post Covid was Japanese Nats. He was brilliant in the freeskate. He got his mojo back! I fully expect Jason to equal that brilliance in his own way. I'm sure that when Jason was feeling so down, Nationals looked really iffy. And it's not going to be a normal Nationals. The cameraderie and fun will be minimal. But at least all of Team USA will get to see each other and that's great! Hopefully it all works out. And I'm sure he's really looking forward to seeing his family after more than 6 months. He knows that all of us will be watching and cheering for him. Jason can play to the camera. He'll figure it out.

Yes, I literally want to plaster this quote everywhere too!

Only other person who made Brian feel that way is Yuzu :eek:A skater's skater(y)(y)(y)

What everyone in the Fan Fest already knows: Jason's skills are unparalleled. Now please let us see those skills we know so well at Nats:pray:

That's such a huge endorsement from Brian, oh my god. I wonder if this is also a little of Brian and Tracey trying to get ahead of the game so to speak, reminding everyone how wonderful Jason is to make sure it's at the forefront of everyone's mind that Jason should be getting top PCS and the shenanigans USFS pulled last year at Nationals.

Loving the pre Nats interview binges.

"[Jason] reevaluates constantly how he can better connect to the music, or better express the emotions it makes him feel and how he can evoke those emotions from the audience.

'I don't look at it as 'there's jumps and there's spin and footwork', he said. 'I look at it like one piece of art.' "

We know:rock:

That's what makes him Jason. Nathan can brilliantly rearrange a program to max points or amortize risk, but Jason tries to paint a masterpiece. It's 2 different ways of competing. Yuzu, interestingly, operates in between them with a lot of emphasis on the artistic while also calculating the jump and spin points. It's really interesting. I think that those 3 are the most interesting and creative skaters in competition now. Kolyada has the potential to join that club as well. It's exciting!

uGH IT LOOKS SO GOOD!! Such a tease though, I want the whole thing 👏🏻👏🏻

I’m assuming if Jason goes for a quad in the SP it’ll have to replace the flip? Which would be a shame as it’s such a thing of beauty (unless he replaced it with a quad flip lmao could you imagine the meltdown 😂)
Long been the view of many that he should go for a quad flip since the triple is such a thing of beauty... we shall seeee:biggrin:

He says it will be a 4T or a 4S, probably the former. If Jason can pull off a 4F it will be spectacular, but I don't think he's been training it.

He did train or trains 4F. I remember reading an article where it was said that he trained 4S, 4T and 4F before the concussion car accident and he had to stop for a while. I don't have a link though. I'm too lazy to find it. :)
