Jason Brown

Congrats to Jason and team! Isn't this something like the third time he's received this honor?

I remembered him winning it before so I looked it up. Jason received the award in 2020 for I Can't Go On Without You and in 2014 for (surprise, surprise  ) Reel Around the Sun/Riverdance.

He's also received the Gustave Lussi award twice (2015, 2020). It is presented to a male, professional skater or coach who has brought recognition to the sport in a positive and favorable manner.

:thank: For this!! Can’t wait to see them all competing again very soon.. they have been missed:jump::love:

For those who saw the IG stories of Jason practicing:

I'm terrible at counting rotations. Were any of those jumps four rotations? (not that I care one little bit for me, but out of curiosity:biggrin:)

So hard to tell with IG stories, but in one of the clips, after he does a spiral that deffo looked like (albeit, a possibly UR) quad salchow. He looks in great shape!!

edit: here is a link to it! beaut quad salchow!

One commentator (I believe it was Scott Hamilton) advised us to "count his face", which he then proceeded to do with us. It definitely helped that the jump in question was shown in slow-mo while he was counting.

Looks easy & effortless.

I do hope he gets to land it in competition, not just because of the points - which are nice, of course :) - but more because he has worked for this so hard and so long, and I wish that hard work got its proper validation.

I thought that one jump looked like a quad also. He rotated very quickly and it didn't look like a triple to me. But it may not have been. I couldn't verify it. He does look like he's in great shape.

Evidently some folks think it is a UR quad, but quad it is.

if I can’t tell quads I sure as heck can’t tell URs. Well, really obvious, but that jump was so pretty, I didn’t see it. :)

I usually figure out a quad by the speed of the rotation. They just rotate too quickly to count, at least for me. But Jason's rotations tend to be tight and quick anyway when the jumps are well executed, it makes it harder to see if it's a 3 or 4. I really don't know how they spot URs, I can only "sort of" see them when it's slo-mo'ed and zoomed in :slink:

Glad to know I’m not the only one that has trouble counting rotations and determining if it’s a quad.
But the jump we’re talking about was posted on the Team Cricket Club IG account and identified as a 4S.

It was the rotation speed that caught my attention. His triples are very fast, but this one was faster. I too hope he lands it at world's. It will erase the theft of his quad at SKAM 2016 and reward all the hard work he's put into it. It's a goal that he has and I want him to achieve it. Here's hoping World's is a safe competition!

Nick McCarvel is teasing us about a Q and A with Jason:

"I'm happy where I'm at physically, technically, mentally, emotionally. "Less than a year out from the Olympics. ... I'm looking forward to going into next season fearless and confident and ready for wherever it takes me."

:cheer:

All quiet on the Jason front (mind you, it’s hard to navigate any of the tags for Worlds because of the endless stream of complaints about the competition) - I’ve seen that Vincent has left for Stockholm, haven’t seen anything from Nathan, and also the other skaters in Canada are already at Stockholm, so I would surmise that Jason probably is too.
He’s down for practice today though I wouldn’t be surprised if he misses it (I’m sure the jet lag must suck) - his planned content is out and the same as always - no Quad in the SP (triple flip, triple axel then lutz-toe combo), and he has a singular quad toe planned for the free skate.
Can’t wait to see some glimpses of him in action, just hope he stays safe in the process!

Ok, updates! I'm meant to be on a study day, but instead I'm scouring the internet for Jason hints!
Firstly, there's a recent interview with Kaetlyn Osmond up here -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMGs-PJWIJ0
The usual questions - but when asked about his goals, Jason (ofc) brings up wanting to land the quad. And he's probably the most passionate I've heard him be about it - he's determined, he says he's doing it every day and he knows he's capable of landing it, and he wants it ratified. He doesn't want to retire having not got it on the protocol sheet. His other goal is to make the olympic team, he wants to be in Beijing. He seems really calm and collected, I hope he can keep this during competition!

His full Olympic Channel interview is also out here -> https://www.olympicchannel.com/en/s...-interview-worlds-figure-skating-champs-2021/

Also, on a Worlds note, there's a youtube video of Nathan running through his SP in practice; it's from an IG live so it's very small, but it looks like Jason could have been on the ice. The camera followed Nathan but I swear I saw the set up for Jason's triple flip (which goes across the ice so is quite recognisable). Fingers crossed for more conclusive footage soon!

Great interview. He's been pretty candid about the training situation before, but he discussed new things in this one. Off to the Osmond interview. Thanks for this!
