I think that's most likely true and not surprising at all. The goal is an OGM. That's true for all the contenders. Especially the Anna/Sasha/Kamila tier. (It's also why Kamila isn't upset at the age rule and not going to this World's even though she would have if it wasn't there. It's also why there is so much support and interest in Aliona even with missing World's - it's not the ultimate goal.)Alexandra Trusova recently gave a short - and disappointing - interview. She mentioned the WC medal is not her primary target without hinting what is it instead.
Pluschenko added few grains saying "Sasha is in her pubertal period... Requires a very careful treatment... etc."
I actually think they're incredibly unlikely to because of Coronavirus. More people there is the last thing they want.I would hope so especially with the way Corona virus can change things alternates are never more important than now.
What other minimum place is the Russian girls have to get to keep the three spots for the Olympics? I do not expect the close call to losing one spot like happened at 2018 worlds.
I actually think the RusFed itself cares more about Aliona than Maiia. It's been less than a month since we saw Maiia nail two quads.
It's been over a year since we last saw Aliona land a clean 3A.
Ya'll need to get your heads out of the clouds. You can't live in the 19/20 season forever.
Interesting point. But one more person won't make much of a difference. But you will say well that's one more person for four disciplines. And then you add the other countries doing us besides Russia and then you have a lot more people there. Oh well.I actually think they're incredibly unlikely to because of Coronavirus. More people there is the last thing they want.
The minimum places only applies to the first two girls. Place 3 could fail to make the FS and it would have no difference. The minimum places are 5th and 8th for the first two girls. So Anna and Sasha could have a disaster and still be fine for spots. But it would not bode well for the Olympics..
It's not 5th and 8th specifically, it's that their combined placement can't be more than 13. 1st and 12th would work, 6th and 7th would also work. The minimum places only applies to the first two girls. The problem is PCS is more like prestige score. But I'm pretty sure that if Maiia delivers some more performances like this one, esp. on international field, her components will rise for five to ten points.I actually think the RusFed itself cares more about Aliona than Maiia.
A good barometer of standing within a Fed is to look at their PCS at the same competition. Maiia had an almost perfect skate at the cup final - where she landed two quads. They gave her an edge call on her F and she had lower PCS than Daria (fully deserved but Daria wasn't perfect here), Kamila (she fell twice on two quads and messed up her quad combo in a third), Liza (Liza's charming but is she points higher than a clean Maiia - Liza also fell out of her final spin), and Aliona (while stunning isn't at her top form). She had a 71 - the others had at least a 72 - and she's the one that landed two quads and the others were...not perfect.
In the SP it's even more obvious. Kamila got a 36 (she was perfect here - stunning 3A), Daria got a 36 (stunning), Liza got a 36 (landed everything but had a spin out of her 3A), and Aliona got a 36 (she's beautiful but she had a much less than perfect skate here.) Maiia got a 34 (her 2A was less than ideal but Liza's 3A and Aliona's skate weren't ideal either.)
That should tell you who the Fed has as their first tier skaters (and even second tier skaters - the upcoming World's played some effect in this) and where Maiia stands (she had lower PCS for essentially the skate of a lifetime than a skate where none of Kamila's quads were landed cleanly and two of them she fell on). Landing 2 quads is excellent - mostly for her own confidence - but isn't going to change the Fed's tiers in and of itself.
Oops, 6th and 7th would be the minimum places. I am well aware; however, of the fact the placements just need to equal 13 or lower. I was trying to answer what the "worst" they could do is. 1st isn't worst..as it essentially means the 2nd spot also doesn't matter. (It technically does - but 1st isn't a minimum). It's not 5th and 8th specifically, it's that their combined placement can't be more than 13. 1st and 12th would work, 6th and 7th would also work.
The numbers 5 and 8 are just trauma from 2018 Worlds.
Yes. That was the whole point. The problem is PCS are more like presitege score. But I'm pretty sure that if Maiia delivers some more performances like this one, esp. on international field, and her components will rise for five to ten points.
Well, technically it's 4 more for the ice dance/pairs disciplines. So just haven't first alternates there adds to 6 more people. Plus another 4 coaches. So that's 10 more people (for countries that have everyone.)Interesting point. But one more person won't make much of a difference. But you will say well that's one more person for four disciplines. And then you add the other countries doing us besides Russia and then you have a lot more people there. Oh well.
Thanks for explaining about the spots for the Olympic team and what kind and can happen it's very unlikely that they would lose a spot. Although I'm not sure what to think of Sasha low-balling everything and in a low-key way saying her goal is not to make the podium. Unless they're just playing it safe and as a team they're not having her put any pressure on herself.
And besides we're talking about current "standing" within the Fed which has no baring on future PCS.Yes. That was the whole point.
However, her opponents components will rise too.
I'm soo happy these girls finally get to go to World's!One more picture:

It's her. I really liked her SP at Nats, she has talent!Did Daria Sarymsakova just join Team Tutberidze? Isn't that her on the right?

Lol, can anyone remember a female skater saying: 'I'm skating for gold? Or even: 'I'm skating for a medal'? My wishOmg that picture, Moskvina gets me every time
Most skaters say in interviews that their goal is just to skate their best and placements don't matter...it's bs, but perfectly normal bs.
