Well like the predictions last season, IF Trusova does a 5 quad program and actually lands it, she can't be beat, but she's had excellent runthroughs before and competition time it didn't work out.
Oh, I just meant confusing reports about Anna landing / not landing her quads. As for the other things, of course, you're right, still landing this layout even at a runthrough is surely impressive as hell.

Ooof, this is not looking for Anna.
Sasha seems to be in amazing shape, she generally seems to peak later in the season. Remember, how she couldn’t land her first clean quad as a junior whole season and then did 2 clean quads at JrWorlds? Perhaps we’re looking at this scenario happening again?
So she's like Maiia?

Dang, with Sasha’s layouts, I’m going to be way more nervous than I already was! She’s trying to give me a heart attack I swear, a 3A in the short and FIVE quads in the free?! She’s insane in the best way possible 😂 I hope she wins!
Yes, she's really something  Now I want to hear what her little brother thinks about that...

It‘s the usual story with Anna - terrible in practice, perfect in competition. She’s steely, she’ll be fine. Gold is hers until Sasha manages to do the impossible.

And yes, the layout’s insane and her chances for gold would probably be way higher if she took an easier route. But that‘s her, love it or hate it. So, all I say is: Let her make history one more time. She deserves it.

I truly hope that Sasha is only doing this layout to intimidate her competitors, and I hope that it's working xd

And I sure hope that she is going to go for the 3A in sp and 3 quads in free.
She needs to build her consistency, then she will get higher goes and pcs.
She should be playing the long game.

In the end it all comes down to the competition, not the practices. So, Anna still has a chance. I will admit I am rather rooting for Sasha here because she had a less successful year than Anna and I always root for the underdog but I hope they can both be proud of their performances. If Sasha hits those quads and a 3A in the SP no one can compete that would be record breaking and frankly incredible.
I think both girls are incredible and I would be happy as long as both skate well and are happy with their performances.

But. (Not saying it way you, just a general observation on this thread) I can’t help to point out all the whining last season when Sasha first learned her 3A, and then was aiming for 5 quads, whining how it‘s not figure skating anymore and how she’s ruining the sport, and people won’t be able to watch ladies figure skating altogether if she wins landing all those jumps. Look how tables have turned, huh? 😂
5 quads +3A is an incredibly impressive thing to achieve for any athlete, let alone a young lady, and if Sasha pulls that out, it will be a historic achievement for the sport, which, hopefully, will be celebrated by everyone.

I was one of the haters last season and I have came to confess my sins.

Sasha seemed anoying to me last season with her 0 skating skills, awful posture etc. All she could do was jump around, and fall 50% of times.

This year she proved that she can be a lovely lyrical skater, but she can also jump hella good. So it is only her choice which card she decides to play here.

I mean there is always change. It don't think it is for the better or the worst. It is just change. Some things will get better (Sasha's jumps!) and other things will decline as a result. Obviously, not everyone will like the change . Some see it as progress, others as regression. I think both groups are right.

Personally, I think people on this thread get too caught up in the " people hate our skaters mentality". It might just be a matter of a different viewpoint about what they personally love/ want to be valued in the sport and that's ok. Not everyone likes the same things

Frankly, Sasha's skating isn't always my cup of tea ( her SP shows real improvement this year and I appreciate her desire to improve and progress in everything) but I think it is very hard not admire her incredible drive and bravery, isn't it? And, if she pulls off a 3A in the SP and 5 quads in the free...I will be clapping / screaming with delight as I did when she landed her first quads at junior worlds. She is incredible. As is Anna, and all the other young trail blazers in this competition and those that came before...

I’m kind of in the same boat as you. I was still excited to see her try the 3A and five quads just because it’s such an incredible thing. But, I do agree with you that the reason I was still hesitant to really enjoy it was because like you said, the skating skills (and just overall PCS) weren’t there and so it would feel more like her just jumping do a few crossovers then I ump again (which I feel some programs from others have kind of demonstrated this year). This year, you can really tell how hard she’s worked (for example, her channel one trophy short I enjoyed her PCS more than her jumps — which is something I wasn’t sure I would ever say haha). I love when skaters improve on their weaker areas (I just now hope in Sasha’s case she’s rewarded for it).

Even if the 3A or quads don’t go quite as planned, I still love both of her programs and she skates them well (I was at skate Canada last year and while I was amazed by her technical ability, I really disliked both programs...).

Same song different verse.

Reminds me of friendlies in football. People get too excited or too depressed over the results of those meaningless matches.

Medals aren’t awarded in practice. When the curtains go up and it starts counting, then we will see how Anna does.

She was coughing up a lung or 2 after her SP at nationals and was counted out, but what happened after the scores were tallied?

Not saying she will win, but the rumors of her demise have been greatly exaggerated.

I have to raise my hand and also confess I was not big on Sasha last season. She always looked like she just ploughed through her choreography.

This season I've grown to appreciate the jumps and the sheer madness and bravery behind them. Plus they are big, beautiful jumps! The main thing that stands out for me is her commitment to choreography these days. She's in there, throwing her body and soul into it!!! I absolutely love it and I have watched that SP so many times I've lost count. She's also managed to use her style of skating to make those lyrical programs feel epic!

Well, if Sasha can pull this through it would be sensational. I always worry with her that her nerves will screw things up. But maybe the no audience thing is a good thing for Sasha?
This could very well be the year she does it but even if she doesn't quite get there, she will eventually!!!

She's definitely got the jumps!!! Pulling them ALL off WILL come I think!!!!!

From someone who did not appreciate this revolution of the sport and was very vocal about it: Might be surprising to you but I still don‘t. I would watch a 7 triples program over one with quads any day. But there comes a time when you resign yourself to the reality - quads are here to stay.

And as such, I am of course rooting for Sasha. This is her revolution, she single-handedly changed the face of ladies singles skating when she landed those quads at Junior Worlds 2018. And she deserves to benefit from that, she deserves to fully reap the glory from her achievements. A skater who did something so fundamentally groundbreaking as a literal teenager should have a place in history not only as a world record holder but as a World and Olympic Champion.

And no, I‘m still not a fan of the changes in ladies figure skating. I still don’t love Sasha’s performances as much as I do those of others, although she has visibly improved in all areas I personally deem important in skating. She is so much more than people, including myself, have given her credit for.

Most importantly, however, I have always and will always respect her as an athlete and as a courageous young woman. She’s worked so much and she‘s come so far and regardless of what I think of the changes she‘s brought to the sport, she deserves to be the face of it. So, yes, let her make history and let her be the Champion.

but I think it is very hard not admire her incredible drive and bravery, isn't it?
Her bravery and drive is something that has always been with her, and still is. It’s nothing new, it’s what she’s always been. I do think it’s great, that people finally started appreciating that and seeing her for what she is.
Her competitive drive, energy and bravery is what made me admire her in the first place.

Haven't people always admired these qualities of Sasha's? The tiny 13 year old brave enough to jump that high and go for jumps that most thought she couldn't land? Certainly, she has always reminded me of a tiny little super hero and I think the World was in awe when she landed her first quad jumps. Everyone of her nicknames goes right back to these qualities. I might not have liked her programs or her SS (both still need work) but I have always liked her and admired her. I think these feelings are quite widespread.
