I think she would have qualified for the FS based on the strengths of her other elements but I agree that they helped her a lot on PCS. Higher than Chen, Kim, Lee and Sakamoto? No way.

They called her flip, though, which was half surprising. Has she ever gotten a call internationally before?
She got a 30.34 in TES. That's lower than everyone who qualified for the FS but Nicole and Satoko. And I think we can agree they also got helped by PCS. And a 30.24 didn't make it. So she very well could not have.

She has once before but that's it.

Not quite. They even called Trusova's Flip edge. They did so correctly, but it still is relatively strict.

Trusova's actual mistake on the combo was around 10 points, maybe 11 points. But she scored 64 instead of 10 points below her expected, which would have been around 70. Yes, she'll lose some PCS, but to be fair she didn't fall so it shouldn't be so much.

I think judges could have scored her around 68 if they wanted to save her.
Sahsa's F gets called nationally. She's been called on every F she's done this year but one - Rostelecom FS and really there she messed up everyone. She she got called in the SP there.

So the thing is, Trusova's edge issues with her flip started after he switched coaches. Her flip was correct with Eteri, but I noticed her incorrect Flip edge in her first competition with Plushenko(And was surprised at the time, I had no idea she had such a tendency).

So she's not exactly been in very many international competitions with the issue.

Hm, so it seems it's even worse than I thought.

Poor Sasha. She now has no choice but to go for 5 quads in the FP. Which could be another epic disaster. RSF will completely dismiss her for the Olympics if she's out of the medals. She's too risky a pick for the team. She just doesn't rise to the occasion in the big events. I think her Olympic dream for 2022 might be dashed now. A top Russian being TWELFTH???? Daria, Maiia, Alena probably went straight to the rink after seeing that performance and started working on their ultra-C, because they see Sasha is beatable for an Oly spot.

Anna. She's a performer. She is solid as a rock when she performs. I don't ever count her out.
is there still a chance for her to medal ? her deficit from 1st place is 16 points
if she lands her 5 quads will it be enough ? though she might need help with mistakes from top 3.

If she doesn't medal here and bombs the FS
the RUSFed will dismiss and her reputation will tank in Russia, Alena must be gloating and so are the other Eteri girls. (Daria or Maya ?)

It's so difficult to put a finger on why it's like this. You see Anna coming from behind and is suddenly a steely competitor, whereas Trusova two time junior WC is filled with so many nerves. She hides it behind a smile, but the expectation has been getting to her for a while. I hope she manages a Nathan Chen on Friday - you know what I'm talking about.

If I remember correctly, the edge on her 4F always seemed wrong. Never saw a problem on the triple, so that‘s new, yes. I guess a lot of it is caused by growth and it also fluctuates. I watched the 3F at Mishin‘s show closely and it looked fine to me. No idea how to fix it but I wonder if it might be better to just do the loop in the SP...

Of course. Trusova should easily be able to come in at least third, with a normal good performance by her.

She wants to do a -3Lo combo so if she does Loop in the SP she loses a ton of points though.

Probably not respectful, might change it later. But imo, it‘s pretty much what‘s going to happen unless Anna falls three times, which she hasn‘t done before. She brought it at Nationals when she could barely breathe, she‘ll bring it here. She‘s just developed into a steely competitor, you can rely on her.
Anna might - she hasn't landed any of her quads on her FS runthroughs. That's 3 falls.

That has actually happened repeatedly during the past 2 days. What made me (and a lot of other people) worried and the reason Anna cried was her long program not her short. I think everyone expected her to have fairly good SP.

Anyways, it's never over, till it's over.
I completely agree with that and this is just short relieve for this evening. No one says Anna has the gold in her pocket. On friday, Sasha can land five quads and Anna can fall three times like during the training. Once again, my first concern for her is to skate clean and be satisfied with her performance thanks to knowledge that under the circumstances no one could ask for more from her.

Nathan Chen in 2018 Olympics didnt medal, he came in 4th after his all out FS

With her 5 quad program she could get around 180, and Anna herself would need somewhere close to 164 to beat her, the others even more. But she has to be clean with zero edge or rotation calls, and that she hasn't even done in that 5 quad clean practice. If she gets 170, Liza and Rika still need around 155.

I even think Rika is a favourite, but it was really relieving short by Anna after latest trainings... :slink:
Like it all may not end great, but looks like it won't be a disaster the trainings suggested.

If Anna's clean she could be 170 but....Anna hasn't landed her 3 quad program all year and is struggling on the quads..

And Anna hasn't been clean on all her quads internationally.

As far as I know she‘s always planned the 3Lz+3T in the SP this season. And a loop with above average GOE to a flip with ! or even e is worth it. Med always scored better without the lutz in the short (and rightly so)
Yeah, she's pretty much always done a 3Lz+3T.
